I set out to catch a big trevally and ended up catching so many moray eels that I decided to try cooking one! The flavor was how you would expect an eel to taste but the texture was what made it inedible for me. It was like eating the gristle on a pork chop. Apparently, they eat eels in Asia and I will happy leave all the morays for them from here on out!
Unless I catch one to use whole for a big Trevally......hmmm....maybe a future video?

Asa my dad used to be really big into saltwater aquariums. I even had a couple of 75-150 gallon aquariums with bass and bluegill in them, but my dad had a low profile 350 gallon acrylic saltwater aquarium and he had this huge moray eel. There was also a couple coral banded shrimp, some seahorses, some different species of tang, and he also had some damsels, along with quite a few other reef and coral fish. That was a truly beautiful aquarium with all blue lights and good quality sand. My dad would clean the entire thing along with the filters and pumps every week. He also had some snowflake eels too.

I don't know how they make it or what type of eel it is, but eel sushi (unagi) with that sweet, smokey eel sauce on it is my FAVORITE. It's never chewy and always as tender as can be. Maybe they massage / beat it for a long time like they do to tenderize octopus sushi. 🤷‍♂️ All I know, is that eel CAN be very VERY good. Thanks for trying it. It made for an extremely interesting video. I love the relationship you and your father have too.

I love unagi.. unagi is fresh water eel though. Here in Hawaiian waters you gotta be careful eating these eels because a lot of them have ciguatera. Getting cig will eff you up man lol
