Catching a BIG BLACKTIP SHARK on the Daiwa BG 8000.Me and my wife both fought the shark which was a big 6ft blacktip shark.She fought it for 15 minutes and it was just to much for her, so she told me to take the rod.I fought it for less than 5 minutes because it was closer to the shore than we thought or I would have just ran down the beach and pulled it in!! That was my mistake because if I take the rod it does not count!! She has caught 3 nice blacktip sharks and a 6'3" spinner shark just this year.She also has a 7'2" lemon shark and a trophy blacktip that weighed at least 125lbs. I will be trying extra hard to get her another big shark to make up for this one!! Thanks for watching!!
REEL - DAIWA BG 8000
ROD - TSUNAMI AIRWAVE ELITE (popping rod) 8'6" 40-80lb 2-4oz (rod is really 3-8oz)
LINE - 500yds SUFFIX 832 65lb braid
LEADER - 7ft 60lb mono twisted GT leader + 3ft 480lb cable leader
HOOK - 9/0 OWNER SUPER MUTU
BAIT - WHITING HEAD
WIFE - 5'2" KOREAN

Funny, description of tackles used. "Wife-5'2"' Korean. 🤣 Great catch, BG reels are a workhorse.

She has caught a lot of big sharks but even with the powerful 8’6’’ tsunami popping rod after 15 min this Blacktip was just to much for her, Had I known he was that close in just farther down the beach I would ran down and pulled him in☹️ She said at times it fought like a huge ray!! Thanks for watching!!

Good vid! I prefer revolver reels but spinners are better for lobbing intact bait out to 70 yards or so - just bought a BG8000. 😎

Navarre Beach, Florida - Autumn or end of October, I watch hundreds (possibly thousands) of Black Tips cruising the coastline moving towards the peninsula while on the 7th floor balcony. They are very close to the same size as what your pulling out of the Atlantic. GREAT VIDEOS. JUST SUBSCRIBED. MH

Thanks!😀 Catching the Blacktips is the main goal of every trip we go on! And my wife does most of the Shark fishing and has caught some very impressive sharks since we started the channel, The conditions along the east coast of central Florida have been unusually tough for basically all of 2021☹️

Sounds like you need bigger mono and a pr bobbin tool , takes some getting use to but the knot is super slim, you'll love it

The problem with the monster shark that got away was the leader, 3’ 480lb cable + 6’4” twisted mono GT leader so it was 9’4” but the shark was jumping and flipping in the air and was probably 7 ft long and he got wrapped in the leader and tail whipped it. Most of the time I run 4’ 480lb cable and 7’ of 60lb mono twisted GT leader. I was going to put a 4’ section of cable to make it 10’4” and that definitely might have made a difference because it was cut at about the 9’6” mark, But we will never know☹️ I have caught 2 78 inch blacktips but that shark still bothers me, But getting the 72 inch blacktip 2 hours later made it a little easier to live with! Thanks for Watching!!

Tsunami airwave elite 8’6” popping rod 40-80lb. 2-4oz but rod is WAY underrated and is more like 3-8oz it is MUCH more powerful than the modified ocean master but not as versatile but is the rod that I want her on with the biggest sharks. Thanks for watching!!

My best advice is try to go fishing with people who have actually caught sharks at the beach. We do have a “Shark Fishing Tips Playlist” on our channel and we have caught a lot of Sharks, but going on a few trips with someone who catches sharks is always a good idea. Thanks for Watching!!

Full drag?
@koreanfishingwife8766
@koreanfishingwife8766 5 лет назад
We don’t bring a scale to check the drag but I think we need to!! the drag knob was definitely tight so I would say around 15lbs??? People exaggerate how much drag they use, but on the 8’6” popping rod rated 40lb - 80lb it might have been close to 15lb of drag Thanks for the question and Thanks for watching!!

The BG 8000 that we caught the shark with has 65lb sufix 832 braid and the BG 8000 that got tail whipped by the shark that got away has 60lb Seaguar Threadlock hollow core braid
@reddjohnson9728
@reddjohnson9728 4 года назад
@@koreanfishingwife8766 ok thanks. I'm trying to deciding between 50lb and 65lb braid for my bg8000.
@koreanfishingwife8766
@koreanfishingwife8766 4 года назад
If you are shark fishing definitely 65lb we spooled the one BG 8000 ourselves and put exactly 520yds 65lb sufix 832 put on very tight and right up to the very top and have had no problems with it. Our 2nd BG 8000 has 75yds of sufix 832 on bottom with 490yds 60lb Seaguar Treadlock on top with a solid to hollow splice, both reels are full braid no backing tied to the spool with a cross over uni knot to the rubber on the spool, The BG 8000 would take very close to 600yds of most any 50lb braid spooled on tightly, if you aren’t shark fishing you could fill 1/2 spool with 30-40lb mono and put 300yds of 50lb on top. The line lay on the reel is very impressive!!

I had the BG and it’s a great reel but if you ever get the chance try the Saragossa out. It’s like night and day.
@koreanfishingwife8766
@koreanfishingwife8766 4 года назад
The Saragossa is one of the very best of the higher priced mid-range reels for sure!! But is 3 times the price of the Daiwa BG. I was going to buy a saragossa 25000 $399 but got the Cabo 120 for $240, The Shimano reels are almost impossible to get on sale!! Thanks for watching!!

korean fishing wife I feel you on that lol. I never see shimano on sale
@koreanfishingwife8766

The Shimano Saragossa will do everything a Stella would for 99% of real world fishing conditions and the Shimano Spheros is only a slight step down from the Saragossa, They are Very Good reels!!

korean fishing wife yes your right. Reels have come so far in design and materials that people are pulling in bull sharks with spinners.

We get the hook out and get them back in water and I have took them out up to my chest to release them and we make sure they swim away and don’t wash back in, we will watch the area where we let them go for awhile to make sure they are ok and yes as long as you don’t get the BG reels WET!! They are great reels!! Thanks for the comment and Thanks for watching!!

I'm just an amateur, but don't black tip sharks have black tips on the dorsal and pectoral fins? I'm being serious and not being a smarta$$. I'd like to know mysepf for sure!
@koreanfishingwife8766
@koreanfishingwife8766 11 месяцев назад
Most of the time blacktip sharks will have black tips on their fins but not always and they vary in color as well. They can be brown to almost a steel gray color. The blacktip is also mistaken for a spinner shark but the spinner shark will always have a jet black anal fin and blacktips anal fins are always white. My wife caught a 6'3" spinner shark on the channel and the black anal fin was very noticeable, Thanks for Watching!!

She has caught 4 nice size blacktips, (1 was at least 100lbs) a big 7'2" lemon shark and a big 6'3" spinner shark that are all on the channel so she knows how to fight/catch the sharks.The big shark that got away got past a 9'4" leader so was not her fault, but she was using her arms to much on the big blacktip that we caught and was not bending at the knees and you can't make that mistake when fighting a fish that is as big as you are!! Her biggest blacktip weighed over 125lbs Thanks for watching!!
