Catching Big Sea Trout - Using The Bombarda Sea Float Setup Shore Fishing Uk

This was a short after work shore fishing session, fishing with the bombarda float. I was targeting bass with the bombarda float with ultra light lures. Instead of catching bass I did manage to catch some sea trout instead.
In the video I demonstrate how I use the bombarda float and how the float is setup. You will see in the video how effective the bombarda really is at catching sea trout even though this was not my target species.

*These are easy to use and highly visible **enjoyable.fishing** recommend they are extremely valuable for going from a dead drift set up to a float setup. They save time and you don't have to re-tie everything to add a float to your presentation.*

Got these thinking they were the slightly larger Panfish floats ru-vid.comUgkx_rJB7cli5f1ofPVGgn80S7Yj4vqwq0gU they work just fine. The smaller size lets me carry more in my tackle box, and the 3 color choices are nice for different lighting conditions, backgrounds, etc. They aren't the most durable things in the world. But, as cheap as they are, it's not heartbreaking to lose one or have to replace a worn one. The price on these fluctuates wildly, from about $9 to almost $16. So, time your buy accordingly.

Another delightful video session, with everything explained in detail. Great viewing. I have to say, its about 30 years since I was last at the Rhu narrows. We use to come over there from Whitley bay with the juniors in the fishing club, mainly fishing on the Rosneath side back in the 70's and 80's hauling out big cod and coalies/Saith.Love the place. Hello, congratulations for the video. the bombarda technique is very common in Italy (Bombarda is an Italian word), especially for trout fishing in the lake using flies, small rubber lures or even natural baits. Each rod can launch an ideal weight of bombard for example 20, or 30 grams and for each weight it is possible to have different bombarda with different rates of sinking from floating to intermediate and more or less sinking expressed by a second number in grams reported on the bombarda itself and in the lake this is very important, the best Italian bombarda are Tubertini and Fassa

Interesting on several levels. We in the US have used "casting bubbles" to throw flies with spinning tackle for a long time. They half-fill with water for weight, and float or sink depending on how full. Also, small spring creek tidal trout fishing here might be my favorite. That looks like the mouth of a river here, sort of. Very nice video.

Hi Dougie I'm pretty new to sea fishing, after 5 week wait I've received my bombarda floats but they are the floating type, is the method for fishing the same as the sinking bombarda method?
@PiscatorUK-Fishing
@PiscatorUK-Fishing 2 года назад
Hi Roger, I fish them a little different I would work them a little less and retrieve them a little slower until your in shallower water. If you feel you need the fly/lure to sink a bit more you can always add a split shot or two to help get the fly down I usually use BB size but as always it’s personal preference. Just remember if you have weight on it could catch the bottom in shallow water but this will allow you to work the lure more with a slightly faster retrieval. Tight lines mate and let me know how you get on👍

Had my first day bombarda fishing with the fly with waders in our local estuary, amazing fun compared to lures (was not expecting that). I didn't get snagged once in two hours. Perhaps I wasn't getting down deep enough though as I didn't even get a bite. What size of split shot do you use and how close to the fly?
@PiscatorUK-Fishing
@PiscatorUK-Fishing 2 года назад
Thanks for letting me know how you got on. If I put shot on it’s usually something like a BB size but I only really use them for shrimp patterns and fish a little bit slower on the retrieve with little jerks. I usually put the shot as close to the hook as possible, if I use a nonslip loop knot I have the shot right up to the knot. A much slower retrieve will also keep the bombarda down, if you’re using a sinking one. Good to hear you enjoyed it and I’m sure when you get a take you will enjoy it even more. Don’t forget to try the shallow water. Tight lines for next time👍

@PiscatorUK-Fishing
@PiscatorUK-Fishing 2 года назад
Hi Paul, it depends on what you want to target. If your after a trout then light lure fishing with mepps or spinners work or even ledgering or float fishing with worm or maggots. For pike you will need some wire traces and probably heftier rod and reel if dead baiting but a wire trace is a must. Perch float, feeder, ledgers with worm or maggots. Lures small/medium spinners, mepps and soft plastics on a jig head 3-10gram will work. Roach on the float, feeder or ledger with maggots or worms. You will need a permit to fish Lomond and can get day ticket permits at the shop in Luss, prices are different for game and coarse fishing. The bank at Luss campsite will be good this time of year for most species in the Loch

Interesting video. I also saw A cornish angler using these to catch school bass. I wonder what people's experiences are with single vs double hooks, and barbless vs barbed? Particularly in the context of catch and release fishing for relatively rare fish (larger seatrout and bass). My experience has been a good hooking to landing ratio with small barbless singles, but larger barbless singles seem to move around quite a bit in the mouth (maybe more damage than a large barbed single?).
@PiscatorUK-Fishing
@PiscatorUK-Fishing 3 года назад
Yes probably the Cornish kayak and shore fisherman, which is one of my favourite fishing channels. I only use single hooks at the moment and slowly getting use to barbless which I think is the way forward. I agree, for certain species a large barbless hook can move about a bit but I still think it’s better for the fish than barbed hooks for catch and release. @PiscatorUK-Fishing
@PiscatorUK-Fishing 2 года назад
Never tried it with a weight but if I did 20gram would probably be too heavy. The trouble with using a weight is you will have no time to work the lure as you will be reeling in pretty fast to keep the weight of the bottom. Most fish are caught in less than 5ft deep

Cracking fish! Came here from your kayak video at luce Bay... First time seeing the bombarder.. what's the difference with using that and say just a small weight to allow for further casting and keeping the light lure on the bottom?
@PiscatorUK-Fishing
@PiscatorUK-Fishing Год назад
Thanks for watching and commenting. I prefer the bombarda as it gives you more control over the depth. When using a weight your retrieve needs to be quite quick and it’s more prone to tangles. Some anglers use a weight with a floating clear tube attached, it’s called a bouncing Betty but this is mainly used over clean ground. You can still cast a long way with the bombarda which is handy if targeting bass but most sea trout that I’ve caught have been at close range. Hope this explains my reasons why I prefer the bombarda?

With the floating bombarda your fly or lure is always going to be on or very close to the surface and I would only use it in very shallow water or if you’re trying to get top water takes if there is fish showing on the surface. You can still fish close to the surface with the sinking bombarda but It will enable you to fish different depths. I have had more success on the sinking bombarda but I still have a floating one with me.

Good video bud. I was wondering, do you use a float stop and a bead above the bombard on your mainline? Cheers.
@PiscatorUK-Fishing
@PiscatorUK-Fishing 2 года назад
No float stop, i sometimes use a small black or clear bead above the float if there’s a bit of weed about, I find it can sometimes help to prevent weed from catching around the plastic stem during the retrieve but it’s not essential. I don’t use the bombarda like a sliding or running float as it’s locked in on a short length of slightly heavier flouro than my leader. This is used just to Protect the braid main line during the cast. Hope this helps mate

Thanks bud. I tried both ways. Still not caught anything yet, but there's monster seatrout where I live. Can I ask what would be the maximum size of fly you would use and would flies like the bloody butcher etc work? Thanks for the reply bud.
@PiscatorUK-Fishing
@PiscatorUK-Fishing 2 года назад
Hi mate, the flies/lures tend to be bait fish or prawn type patterns. Hook size is usually about a #6 but anything from #4-8 will do for the main lure. I sometimes use smaller flies like a butcher or teal blue and silver or something with a bit of flash as a teaser fly, tied about 18” above on a small dropper. It’s not something I do often and usually better in the colder months when bait fish are less prolific in the water. The link is for the type of sand eel pattern I use but there’s lots of tutorials on making baitfish lures if that’s what your into. www.sportfish.co.uk/saltwater-bass-sand-eel-eezee-blue-size-6.html

Hi Mike, exciting stuff. yes it happens quit often. If I see the fish follow the lure I stop winding but keep the lure moving just by moving the rod tip, it sometimes help.
