Born and raised in Nebraska, and I have yet to get to Big Mac. That being said I WILL make it there someday. Hopefully next year 2024. But I do know this… You want to catch BIG hybrids ? Put your boat on to Elwood Reservoir in Elwood Ne. You want to catch BIG smallies ? Put your boat on to lake Oahe in SD. You want to catch your daily limit in walleye with BIG walleye ? Again, Oahe. I’m NOT knocking a lake I’ve never been to, and like I said, I DO plan on getting my boat wet on Big Mac someday. And THATS my issue with Nebraska. Like I said, born and raised in Nebraska, eastern Nebraska. For a guy like me, AVID fisherman, I have to drive AT LEAST 4 hours to get to decent water, 7 hours to get to BIG DEEP water. Now there’s plans to build a big reservoir in Eastern Nebraska, but they haven’t even broken ground yet and they’re already screwing it up. The plans call for an average depth of 30’. Every damm lake in eastern Nebraska has an average depth of 30’, and Nebraska is planning on spending millions to dig ANOTHER bath tub lake, only bigger. What’s the sense in that ? If you’re going to spend money like that give the damm lake a decent depth. At least 75’-100’ depth. Quit eating the damm money on these hot water bath tub lakes. It’s time Eastern Nebraska gets a GOOD body of water that’ll support more than catfish and crappies. Make a reservoir that’ll not only keep fish alive after they “put and take” stock them, but will also allow species like walleye and northern , hybrids etc to spawn and REPRODUCE. 30’ ain’t gonna “git er done” so to speak lol.
