Awesome successful video! So the word you were looking for is Gar “Boulettes” pronounced “boo-lets” Choupique is a Cajun word for the fish bowfin/grinnel. And that drone footage was EPIC!!!!! I enjoyed the show thanks for sharing 👍

Glad to see y’all enjoying Louisiana culture -I was raised down bayou dularge which is just below Houma Louisiana-the Houmas Indians were my friends -back in the day they used garfish scales as arrow heads-if you want to see a real professional gar fisherman look up Ricky Verret on you tube -he wasm hired by LSU to fish for gar Rowe -the video shows him cleaning gar about a mile from my house

The choupique is a primitive, sharp-toothed predator living in sluggish water. Also called bowfin, dogfish, cypress trout, grindel or grinnel, the choupique (Amia calva) is the only remaining member of the Amiidae family, a group of fishes that originated in the Upper Jurassic approximately 180 million years ago.

The most common name is definitely region specific, Grinnel is most common in my area, just a littlesouth it's dogfish and a little north is bowfin....and every1 who doesn't know any better call them snakeheads(no snakeheads in our area)

and those spikes you say Kelly?? if you let them dry out,..that spike has a bunch of Barbs on it. They are like the barb on a hook goes in easy one way and rips coming out,.so be damn careful with them,... especially if you can't hang onto them good. but your technique of holding them is awesome just like mine just hold tight and you should be fine,..... without a pliers. have fun catch a big one and take care the both of you. I would love to have about 100 pounds of them shrimpers you had.. love my shrimp i do.

Awesome video. A tip for catfish stings (getting poked by one of the spikes) rub the affected area on the side of the catfish's body, smear some of the slime on where you was poked, takes away most all of the pain almost instantly

I just want to let you all know how impressed I am with this. Obviously a Grade A crew. It is debatable where the prettiest girls come from, but, if we had one like this girl up here, I think the entire State would know about it and our Governor would declare her to be a treasure, it looks like she owns the sport. When I worked on a levee rebuild job in St. Bernard Parrish in 2010...most of of the guys I had working for me had Latin/Spanish sur names from the Canary Islands 🇮🇨...a few had Italian names...one of my favorites was a kid named "Pancho Gonzales" (actual name)...he was a lot lighter skinned than me...always sunburned ☀️...and I'm German/English

Future You-Tube video idea, collect some of the gar scales. Have them made into arrows, and use them to take down a hog. Providing the scales dry out and harden up enough to be used as a arrowhead.

If you grab the catfish by the belly, you won't get poked, same grip you had but by the belly, that way the dorsal doesn't get you

My Uncle Les taught me about those thorns on Bullhead fish. This was on Pewaukee Lake in Wisconsin back in 1960. Bullheads must be a derivative of Catfish?

Bullheads have nothing on the spines of a saltwater hardhead catfish! Not only is a harhead spine venomous, but it is also barbed and a SOB to get out if they stick you bad.

If you put more oil in a deeper pan or a dutch oven so the hush puppies will float, when the bottom side is done they will roll over on their own. Good video!
