This is the most thorough and well constructed fishing tutorial I’ve ever watched! I’m an environmental scientist in South Carolina and recently my brother-in-laws were asking me about the fish they just caught - a freshwater drum. I’ve never targeted them before and had little information to offer other than the basics. I shared this video with them and saved myself for future reference, so thanks!

I stumbled upon this technique a couple years back, so happy to see Shawn talk about blade baits for drum. They almost always work if you see one to target. Tight lines!!

Correction as he weighed it on a certified scale and it was 20.2 so mine must have been about 19 lbs, lots of fun to catch!

Love your method!!!! I usually catch alot by trolling crankbaits on my kayak out here on Lake Michigan.I definitely need to try your method.My method is a GREAT WORKOUT but yours will be great when I need to take a break and STILL be ON THE FISH.😎 Thank you for sharing.🤗

Blade Baits work year round if you can locate the fish without spooking them!... Ned rigs are also particularly deadly in clear water... I fished a B.A.S.S. Tournament last year on Lake Eerie and caught close to 50 drum on a ned Gobie! I'd imagine that Lake Michigan is similar...

Thanks for the tip! We didn't film a cooking episode on these because I heard mixed results... I may have to try it now! - What is your favorite way to cook them?

Make sure you cut all the fat off the meat and as was previously mentioned remove that red flesh and you have a very delicious cut of fish.

Nice! We were out Drum fishing last week again and they are biting! - It's almost done though - water temps are moving up and they'll be headed shallow soon

I have never personally eaten them... but there are lots of videos on RU-vid about it... I've heard you should stick with the smaller fish... another user down further in the comments also suggested cutting off any red colored meat, which I believe! as I've done that with other species and it makes all the difference!

What's the rule on keeping these? I can't find them on the list but i dont wanna assume its a cull fish without asking.

Question: How do they taste? Do you enjoy eating freshwater drum?
@VermontMasterAnglers
@VermontMasterAnglers 2 года назад
I have not tried them myself... I've heard mixed reviews in my online searching... I don't think you'd want to eat one of the big ones but perhaps when you catch the smaller ones during the summer that would make better table fare...

I have an XPRESS DVX 175 with 150HP - Xpress doesn't make the full console anymore but you can still find them on the market out in WI area... It's a tournament Walleye boat - loads of fun!
