I caught an 18” brown from under an undercut bank on a creek in northwest Nebraska half that wide. When I set the hook, the creek was so small he literally jumped on the bank!! Jokers are amazing. Love browns.
I live in McKean county and I have a creek behind my house that has native trout in. I've caught them over 18" there. I walk the creek in the spring to check the creek for good spots because the creek changes every year because of flooding. There used to be a good little hiding spot for the trout that is inside of a hollow tree that is laying in the creek long wise and it goes up inside the creek bank. The end of the log is down below the surface of the bedrock and surrounded by other logs. But if you slowly work your way up to the log and look down you could see the trout sitting inside the log. But after checking the creek this year I discovered the flood water had filled it the hollow log with rocks. I'm gonna try to remove the rock and restore the spot.
Appreciate the compliments, my friend‘s and yes, I was rather astonished when I found that caliber of fish living in that small stream! I’m fairly certain that there are more big fish in small streams than people Realize, they are just really smart when they get that big or bigger! 🤙😁
Another great video dusty i love pulling out bigger browns out of those tight spots too.. like dropping down the burger on their lap while there tucked away in there living room watching tv lol lol. Thats how ive always compared this type if dink n dunk trouting lol. Keep em coming dusty !!!!!!
Thank you very much..thats the size I thought you were using and color ..I really enjoy your videos I like in Maryland about a mile from the Fulton county, pa line..I do alot of stream fishing up in pa ..we don't have many wild trout streams in this part of the state..I'm pretty sure you do alot of up state and east pa ..I know there's alot of native streams up there.. thanks again for the videos..keep up the good work
Wow, impressive. Expecting maybe 16-18" fish max and then ..monsters... for spinners, when I've used them, I always replace the treble with a single hook with a larger 'bite', I land more and less damage to the fish. New Subscriber🙂
I’ve definitely been considering the single hook….. but have been pinching my barbs for the last cpl years…… helps immensely on deep hook removal with minimal damage!! 👌🤙 Thank you kindly for the follow & glad you’re enjoying! Tight Lines😊
Thanks for the tips!……. Yeah those 25+ inch trout should be just way more docile and easy to handle…… I will keep my eye out for an educational & instructional video from you on how to properly handle them big ones!!! 👌😁 Thanks in advance
@@chasingthewildwithdustyrho2620 no reason ro be a sarcastic prick. I wasn't sure if you knew how to handle a fish or not. 90% of people that trout fish dont know how to handle one.
Heck of a giant brown man! You got a new sub. My dream is to catch a brown over 20. What county/ stream is this if you don’t mind me asking? I mostly trout fish in Southern PA, but never have luck like this 😂
Greatly appreciative on the follow….. I actually bounce around all over the state boss….. I’ve found bigs in every region with the exception of the southeastern corner….. just never put much time in there!! 👌🤷♂️😁
Yeah, I’ve been fortunate enough to find some small streams that have bigger fish here in Pennsylvania….. a lot of it has been due to beaver dams I believe…. They seem to grow big in those and people can’t really catch them because of all of the cover and depth, then when the dams break the fish go throughout the stream.! 👌
There must be an abundance of food in those cold waters. Where are you fishing? At least what state are you in. But make no mistake about it. I catch fish to EAT THEM! I love the taste of freshly caught fish of various species. Walleye is my favorite.
Yeah most of the streams I fish have one or multiple beaver dams in them, which do very good at producing big fish as in they are loaded with small bait fish which these bigger fish just thrive on and become giant…..then when these beaver dams break out these fish have to go someplace! 👌🤙😁 I am in total agreement, there is no better freshwater fish to eat than a walleye…… Crappie, perch and bluegill are definitely a close second and I do also enjoy catfish, but I like to throw these big trout back so I can build a history with them! 🤙😁👌🎣
Thanks for not mentioning the stream, bad enough all these “ look what I do guys” are advertising and telling you where they’re fishing, Why on earth do you want to let everyone know where you fish or hunt? I just enjoy my excursions, and share them with family, not to the world.
100% agreed…… you’ll never catch me name dropping a stream on here….. they’re priceless!!! I feel if someone recognizes one that I’m fishing on any of my vids then they likely already have fished the stream! 👌🤙👍
Though I've never broken the 20" range, I have caught some nice browns and brookies in the mid to high teens in Pennsylvania streams like this, and smaller.
Im in NW PA and this fishing is great. It’s all on PUTTING IN THE WORK!!! I love watching these slobs being caught and released. I keep if they swallow the hook only then we eat them.
Well in this particular small stream, it was littered with beaverdams of which brown trout can grow very large in….. then when these dams blow out, these big trout have to go somewhere in the stream & the deeper spots with good cover are the areas that i target…… especially once you establish that a small stream holds bigger fish! This is just one for instance….. another instance would be thermal refuge…… big fish in bigger water running up in cooler water as the rivers or bigger streams they’re living in start to warm with the summer temps rising! 🤙
In this particular video, I was using a Berkley Cherrywood 5 foot with a 500 series Shimano reel, 8 pound test always! I have recently started using, in the past year, a St. Croix Premier 5’6” though!
I live in Sigel, Pa. your dialect sounds nearby. I heard about a place like this near brockway/Penfield area - I wonder if this video is at that place?
I can say that this is not that area….. I can also say I have found areas such as this all across the state….. obviously some are better than others but if you put your time in you can 100% find spots like this in every region of the state! 👌🤙
And most of my earlier videos I am using a Berkley Cherrywood 5’….. then I started using a St Croix Premier in a 5’6” Medium Power, Fast Action & a St.Croix Legend Tournament in same👆
Appreciate it boss….. glad you’re enjoying! 🤙 In this video I was actually just rocking a 5’ Berkley Cherrywood….. I’ve since graduated to St. Croix’s since then! 👌
Never ceases to amaze me... Even in a 4ft wide Creek.. you still get right in the middle of it.. 🤣 🤣 stay out of the water.. Unless it's necessary. Which is nearly never in a creek like this.
@@chasingthewildwithdustyrho2620 standing in the middle of the creek... You are one of those folks that catches a few fish(in a bathtub sized Creek) and thinks they got it going on.. 🤣 👏 The fish literally cannot leave.
@@emilymiller1853 I’m just trying to figure out your argument here…. The main reason I walk in these small streams is to navigate them since the surrounding terrain is very thick, brushy or inaccessible…… aside from that I fish upstream casting & making my presentations up ahead of me since the fish always are facing upstream…… I never spook them approaching from downstream, even if I’m in the middle of the stream! 🤦♂️😂👌🤙😁
Lol….. well unfortunately I can’t put a dollar amount on something that’s taken me my whole life to find & perfect…. All I can say with 💯 certainty is that these caliber of fish are out there & in most regions in the state from what I’ve seen! 👌👍
great catch however that was not a 25 inch brown. I know they seem bigger but when you measure it, that was prob 21 or maybe even 20 inches. Great catch
My set up is a very reasonable priced Abu Garcia Devil spin rod UL with a Daiwa Legalis been using the same rod since I started spinning for browns 4/5 years ago I’m on my 2nd rod after snapping the top off on my way out on an early morning session £80 for rod & reel over here in Scotland 🏴 ✌🏼💙👍🏼
I wish I had discovered ultralight spinning years ago I always bait fished it was by accident I got into spinning 🤷🏼♂️ I found a tiny Panther Martin in a tree & caught a load of fish that night never looked back since also use Rapal & Salmo lures but for the most it’s Mepps spinners for me ✌🏼💙👍🏼🏴
Well there are a couple ways to look at that…… if you don’t get it into the net, then it’s not landed…… many of these bigger fish I get, if you give them much of a chance to fight much, one of two things is likely going to happen……. They’re either going to wrap some structure & break you off or they are going to get off since I use barbless hooks the less I fight them, the better chance I have of them being in my net & not just another sob story of a big fish that I hooked but didn’t land!! 👌 If any of that makes sense…….. And also the less you fight a fish, the less energy of theirs you drain, this is important once the water temps start warming a little more from the cool winter/early spring temps! If you drain all of their energy and the water is warmer, they have a very good chance of not making it! 👍 Tight Lines!
Unbelievable that habitat can support trout of that size. In uk they'd b 6 inches max. Aren't browns a non native there. ? They must b decimating the stream of native fish I guess.
Yes, the Browns here are becoming more wild in streams, meaning they are re-populating a lot more, and yes they are definitely eating most of our native Brook Trout population, at least in my area of the state.🫤😥🤷♂️
PEOPLE THINK I'M CRAZY USING 1/0 HOOK IN STREAM LIKE THIS IN PA BUT TRULY I HAVE TAKEN UP TO 34 POUND BROWN IN THEM EARLY SPRING THEY SPAWN IN THE WINTER TIME
That’s crazy awesome…… I’m assuming those were Lake Run Browns…… all of these are landlocked fish! I’ve honestly never gone for the bigger lake runners….. it would have to be a blast, I’ve just never done it!👌🤙😁
Lol…… well I also fish lmao….. people mainly don’t like to give up their fishing spots for number one if you literally give it away on social media it probably wouldn’t be worth fishing by the end of that year due to extreme over fishing/ pressure…… & number two it’s taken me my whole life to find many of these locations, hard work on maps, & putting endless miles on my boots & vehicle to just give them away to everyone just isn’t something I’m willing to do…… 👌🤷♂️🤙
Tend to agree, you sort of abused that first fish. Get the spinner out of her jaw and let her go. You had to land the fish three times. Seeing that, did not watch the rest of the video
@@danhewko1093 well then you missed me catching her on a streamer the following year! 🤷♂️ Not saying I did it perfect, but I’m not perfect…. She was released & was 100% just fine back into to cold spring waters….. if the water temps were warmer that process would have been a lot faster I assure you! Wild fish are very resilient in the cold winter or early spring water temps….. but thank you for your comment & I will try to do it better in the future! 👌
You’re supposed to throw them up onto the rocks/dirt/leaves aren’t you……. & let them flop their way back to the creek right!? 🤷♂️ I mean idk…… I’m new to this whole fishing thing & how PERFECT it is!!!!!👌🙄
Tell you what……. You make a video of you properly handling 24-26” Wild Browns in a small & then I’ll watch it & maybe learn exactly how it’s done……. But even though I should commend & compliment you for your awe inspiring achievements, maybe I’ll just leave you a shitty comment instead…………👌 I’ll be waiting for that video now, send me that link 👌
Hopefully some day you will realize how fragile these little streams are and put releasing fish ahead of your ego. Quit playing with them for extended photo shoots
Dude what are you talking about….. I keep the fish in the water, don’t flop them up onto the bank to land them & only keep them out of the water for a few seconds at a time when I take my pics…… these fish are all fine & I catch many of them several years in a row….. some up to 5 years in a row….. it’s great that you care about the fish….. but so do I, so know what you’re talking about when you make these kinds of comments otherwise you just look like a 🤡…….🤷♂️
Top class entertainment my man. I'm champing at the bit to get my gear back out. Thanks for filling me with enthusiasm again bud. Just love small stream fishing. Tight lines from Bonnie Scotland pal.👍🍻
@@Trophy_Tracker_Nick yup….. those Bigs get a little too frisky for a long battle! 🤙 I used to battle em! Some of my older content demonstrates this! 👌
I let it go…… and then you watched me catch it the next year!……. And I let it go AGAIN! 🤷♂️ If the fish is in the water & not flopping around on the rocks or bank they ARE JUST FINE!!!!!!! 👌👌👌
If you’ve watched any of my newer content you’ll notice that I pretty much do, this footage was from 2021………Angler growth is all one can do🤙 Trust me dude…. I care about these fish! If they are hooked deep or bleed at all, I get them unhooked as quickly as possible and back in!
Males have typically a bigger longer head with a hooked bottom jaw once they get real big or the technical term “Kype”…… where as the females have a shorter more rounded head and mouth! The big males will typically look more aggressive, like a alligator, musky or pike when they get 20+ inches! 👌
@chasingthewildwithdustyrho2620 , cool! Thank you! . . . Yeah, earlier, I caught myself laughing to myself: while most of us are trying to identify the species, Dusty is identifying the gender of the fish. I'm like, "What the heck?" 😆 Although I will catch and release most of the time, I would like to catch a nice meal once in a while. With that said, releasing the large females would seem to be the most vital -- but, of course, releasing some males too.
@chasingthewildwithdustyrho2620 , also, in one of your videos, you had mentioned that come July when the water temperatures rise to 60 or 65° F you stop fishing. Would you expound on that? . . . What are some of these unwritten rules of (trout) fishing? What are some of the ethics?
@@matthewmcdermit8744 well essentially when the water temps get 65 degrees or above it’s unsafe to catch & release trout….. they basically have a super hard time recovering from a fight & are at grave risk of dying so it’s best to just NOT fish at all under those warmer water conditions! 👌
