How to use jigging spoons to catch panfish while ice fishing. Bluegills and crappies LOVE them! Here’s how I like to fish them and watch some big bluegills (sunfish) caught on camera!
I also breakdown my jigging cadence and gear options for when you’re using jigging spoons.
Bonus crappie makes an appearance as well!

Matt is an OG panfish slayer. Learned many tips dating back a decade from him. Still use a ton of them to this day.

I mean yes, there are times when this is crushing fish, but other times when the deadstick is all they want. Then other times where you get them to chase and then deadstick it right in there face to get them to hit. It's not always like this

I’ve been having really good luck with the Pin Head Minnow since watching your videos. When the fish seem to be a little neutral, but the pinhead is the only lure really catching their attention, what is the best technique with the spoon to catch those slower fish? Tighter jigging? Also, what pound test do you use with it? I think I have 6lb on my spinning reel. Should I down size to say, 3-4? Thanks!

I’ll actually snap the spoon away from negative fish and let it fall/flutter back down to them. Sometimes that can really trigger the bite. I know it’s hard to do, because you think you should be doing the opposite, but it oftentimes works for me. And then yes, shorter shakes and wobbles can seal the deal as well! And for line, I use 3# test with my noodle rods for panfish.
