I would agree that diet and other aspects of our modern lifestyle contribute partially or completely to many of the mental, emotional and physical disorders we see today.

The custard filling is creme patissiere made of eggs, milk, sugar, flour and vanilla flavour. It's always used cold like a cream in pastry products like in the base of fruit tarts or in profiteroles /éclairs.

My dad died in june from dimentia.. in the last few months he would sit happily looking at news channels he could no longer take in, with a newspaper on his lap he could no longer read and a cup of tea which he could no longer make. Thanfully it took him quickly because he wouldnt have wanted to have lived 'brainless' as he used to say, in a nursing home, for years. He lasted 1 week in there and i believe that was by choice. Dimentia is cruel.

Aspartame is pure poison for the body, I didn't know about the dementia problem but I saw studies linking it to illness similar to ALS, MS and Motor Neurone disease. My eldest sister Sue has been diagnosed with a form of Alzheimers, post cortical atrophy, as a retired social worker specialising in mental health it's probably the worst thing she could have got. She's terrified of losing her autonomy and has been difficult with her family, she's actually stopped talking to me because I raised the questions that no one wants to ask about end of life care. When my other sister Linda was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer Sue spoke at great length about what she wanted unfortunately Linda died very quickly, about 9 weeks between diagnosis and funeral. But I didn't have the right to ask her what she wanted or needed and I really caught the sharp side of her tongue. It wasn't something I had seen before, her really angry. I suppose it's better she attacked me rather than her daughters who will be her primary carers. Also my brother is undergoing tests with a neurological unit in Southampton because he was having memory problems. He's an Architect and the last 2 months before his official retirement at the end of September he was really struggling with work. He seems better now there is less stress but he has a completely different attitude, he's been to see a solicitor about giving power of attorney to his eldest daughter and sorting stuff out and he doesn't have an official diagnosis yet, it may turn out that he's suffering from depression. Our father died of coronary induced dementia so we know what's coming, he seemed happy enough at the nursing home but it was a difficult ending when his time came. To be honest I'm a bit of a coward and if it was me being diagnosed dementia I've got enough morphine based drugs stashed away to take myself out of the game before I became a burden to my kids who have got enough on their plate dealing with my mother who's away with the fairies best part of the day, and "falling" at least once a week (she actually slides out of her chair and artfully arranges herself on the floor) so that a member of the family is called along with the ambulance to pick her up because the care staff that come in 4 times a day are not allowed to lift her off the floor. Last time she was waiting 18 hours, oddly enough she hasn't "fallen" since then. Yes dementia is difficult but a narcissistic parent with it is awful which I why I don't visit her anymore.

Oh Jan, this all sounds horrendous. I wonder whether the anger displayed by your sister is in part the illness making changes to her brain. She sounds like Mark. Mark prefers to wait and see and not look too far ahead. I like to know what's coming. Your brother has done a good, sensible thing and hopefully he can now enjoy a long and peaceful retirement. The 'falling' Narc made me smile, my mum would do the same! I don't think it is cowardly to have plans, I think it is brave. My thoughts are, will we know if/when we have dementia? I think the blessing is we don't know. I hope I am correct.

I work as a carer and it is devasting to see at first hand the impact of dementia on sufferers and their families. I think they have made some break throughs in treatment. No more Coke ZERO for me!!! Didn't know that about the chicken eggs either. Very interesting - as i hope to keep some one day.

Dementia is so tragic. Many studies are on Aspartam and they talk not only on dementia but also cardiovascular disease and cancer. 😥

Uh oh, better stop using sweetener. I don't use it much but if you use too much of this you get that and if you use too much of that you get something else and so forth and so on. 🤪🤪
