Our former Northshore Chicago neighbors now transplanted to Florida and the East Coast, Jane & Martin Bentham who have spent the last couple of years living and sailing (not to mention lots of fixing around) on their sailboat that is docked near DC, are in town for a few days so we decided to meet for some catching up that started out with “Dollar Oysters Happy Hour” at the Tortoise Supper Club where we snagged al fresco seating savoring 3 dozen oysters and enjoying a very comfy 70’s temps weather.
Afterwards, we headed north for dinner at VINO &… at Eataly Chicago where, just our luck, it’s “WINE WEDNESDAY” when one can partake of specially-priced bottles of wine. It was awesome being reunited and served by Derrick who instantly remembered me when we celebrated a co-worker’s birthday last January. Our neighbor David who was serving at LA PIZZA & LA PASTA dropped by to say Hi. Derrick recommended the Gia Langhe Rosso for all of us to partake while savoring our entrees of choice. I particularly always go for the Vongole with Clams whenever I dine in any Italian restaurant for that matter. I haven’t had an Affogato for dessert in a while so that was an easy dessert decision. It was wonderful catching up with the Benthams who we go way back to neighborly memories in Wilmette, watching Broadway shows in NYC and having vacationed together on Kauai.
