Overrated actress. If you can catch an actor acting in a role, they have failed, and it's easy to catch Blanchett acting in every role. Irrespective of how many Oscars she has won (modern Oscars are a joke anyway) she is not as talented as many other actresses out there
@markorakocija5473
@markorakocija5473 Год назад
@@commanderkeen3787 I agree with you in the sense that she is obviously a theatre actor rather than a screen actor. Sometimes that doesn't translate well to the screen. Her approach to acting didn't make a good fit with a director like Linklater, but it fit perfectly with someone like Woody Allen (or Todd Field of you will). IMO, she is easily the best and most interesting actor of her generation.

@UCq-N9vrhVXiuCTPn9K79lpw ONE of. Try reading correctly before you comment. You can try the whole "I've seen more movies than you & my knowledge is superior" crap if you like. You'll even probably try to come up with some obscure actress that you profess is the greatest of all-time because you are probably that pretentious & it makes you believe you are more superior, so go for it. I have no desire to prove anything to something like you. What I do know is that for all the actresses I've been wowed by in my life such as Katharine Hepburn, Ellen Burstyn, Gena Rowlands, Emmanuelle Riva, Isabelle Huppert, Sissy Spacek, Julianne Moore, Setsuko Hara, Barbara Stanwyck, Marion Cottillard, Anna Magnani, Vivien Leigh, Olivia De Havilland, Ingrid Bergman, Liv Ullman etc., she is right up there with the best of them. ( i so wish some, very few, who can't see it could transcend their narcissism...) and these awards come mainly from critic associations around the world, not HW... and on top she made it, with stage breaks, i mean lots of theatre..., and in an era where way more films are produced, where film distribution has been globalised and were very few if none of classic HW stars would have survived. its hard to imagine how serious and passionate she is for her industry while she is such a dork... if you love cinema you love actors like her. I wasn’t familiar with Todd’s work until this closet episode. But when I researched his films and work I realized what a talent this man is. Cate we know she is superb.

I love the fact that I own not only almost all of the films from Criterion they mention, but both Bergman and Fellini sets they fight over.

Saw (and met) many celebrities at an annual film gala, over many years, most of the biggest. Blanchett was the only one that left me starstruck with her presence. Tár is a masterpiece.

Very happy to see Cate get excited for Guy Maddin. Nobody does it like him, love it.

Love the spontaneity and excitement, just two cinephiles talking amongst themselves, totally in the moment and oblivious of being filmed. Nice to see the love for Soviet cinema. The Cranes are Flying, the Ascent... two great films.

How many russian/soviet fims and directors admired by these two great artists. And rightly so. What an incredible tragedy is this time on earth. What coud have been and what it is. Very beautiful and profoundly sad.

In Cold Blood used to run during summer weekends on network TV after the 10pm news ended. That's when I saw it as a 70s suburban kid during summer break & it was the scariest movie to me. I got the book later as a young adult [RIP HalfPrice Books] I hope Cate got around to watching the film b/c it is a work of art. Quincy Jones score over the title sequence is A++++

What I love most about this Criterion RU-vid series (Closet Picks) is that it really confirms the dramatic distinction between true artists, even in the acting category, and superficial artists who somehow manage to con mainstream critical gatekeepers into celebrating their works (usually because of politics). For my entire life, I really only want to watch movies created by people like you're seeing here: passionately interested in films that are historical and relatively obscure to the general public -- not because of elitism, but because it is proof of the breeding ground for great art.
