I know. I usually don't watch much of these late night shows but during this quarantine time the interviews have been so much better. I like seeing people like Cate dressed down and without makeup.
I love how with online web-chats Stephen and his guests can kind of share a one on one intimate interview. It’s more relaxed and chill, I feel it allows more genuine moments of candor.
It's easy for the interviewees to forget that millions of people are still watching. When there's a live audience they're very aware that it's a public conversation.
Yes, the guests place a lot of pressure on themselves to be more interesting. Such as coming to the show with a pre-planed "funny story" to tell that is often highly embellished or may not even be true. This virus has kind of equalized us all as we the viewer along with the celebrities are all hunkered down in our PJs saying, "yeah, this sucks, wouldn't you agree?"
Stephen always acts like a shy, somewhat embarrassed, idolizing schoolboy around these beautiful, intelligent and talented women. (What a contrast to Trump.)
That's an apt description of his manner, for sure- and I can certainly understand that reaction. I'm fairly certain I'd behave the same; that might be one of the reasons I enjoy Stephen's interviews so much.
'd be reduced into incoherence if I was expected to hold a conversation with someone as smart, articulate and beautiful as Cate Blanchett - so Stephen is ***WAY*** ahead of my game!
Stephen is happily married but not blind !!! Cate is beautiful genuine and smart. I wish they had more time to talk, please invite her back. She can carryon a conversation about anything following a train of thought. She also has a naughty streak not to be neglected. Please, please get her back !!! Funny how worried she seems to be about her decolletage, holding on to her pyjamas. Love the show either way, apples and oranges both great !!!!!
I would prefer those two every week more than anything else... They're the best! And I love the lack of audience. It makes the conversation much more interesting and warm 🤗
The level of intimacy you're able to achieve in these interviews because your subject is comfortable in their own environment is yielding such great interviews! I know it's hard to perform without an audience. But the conversations are deeper and more interesting. You are all doing great work, much needed work. Thank you!

Seemingly unapproachable and not of this world, yet warm and understanding. One of my brother in laws, Martin, has a sister named Edith in Dodge City She owned a hair salon and later a exercise studio. Where farm women were locked away from freedom, she kicked the door down. She would have known Dennis Hopper.. They shared cousins...It is true, we leaned on Edith Conrardy. Good name..but kids changed themselves. She may end up Edit.
poor Edith, Cate adopted her only, because she want a daughter and was to old to get birth to one with 46 years. in the seven year after the birth of her son, she never thought about adopting a child, because she wanted to give birth to a daughter by herself. She take Edith only, because she was getting to old to get pregnant, that is the sad truth. She did it not to give a child a loving home, she only did it, because she wanted a daughter. For stars like Cate children are like house animals, which they can buy for a lot of money if they want. Edith will have a horrible childhood with a heartless ice queen as mother. Surely this poor kid will need a therapist after a childhood without love.

I was a fan of her once, but she never answer my fan letters, although i am autistic, and an answer from her would be so important for me. She is such a fake...she only makes poor people a joy, if the press is there and she can make good publicity for herself. But answer an autistic fan with a very hard life to make the fan a joy...that is something she cant do, because she has not the heart for that. She has read my letter and throw it in the garbage, and the same she did every year with your birthday project. . i have written her a lot about me and how difficult my life is and how desperate i am, and i have written even a story about her movies for her, but she never answered me. she has no heart for her fans, stars with a heart would answer to a moving letter from a autistic fan. Every star which has an heart, would have answer my moving, desperate and sad letter. And dont say, she didnt get it, i have send it to her adress in England, so it surely was in her mailbox. i am sure, she has find it in her mailbox and throw it in the garbage after reading it or even didnt read it. And, believe me, the same she did with your birthday project every year. A star like Cate, who dont appreciate her fans, dont deserve to have fans. I have loved and admired her for years, her movies helped me through lockdown, but now i hate her, because she didnt answer my letters, it was very frustrating, to go every day to the mailbox and never find a kind answer from her with some kind words, that will comfort me a litte bit in my difficult situation. She didnt answer me, because this wouldnt bring her an advantage like good publicity or money. She only helps people, when her management gives her the order to do it and when she can make good publicity for herself and earn money with it. My sad doom didnt move her, her heart is so icy cold, she had not the heart to answer me and give me comfort with some kind worts. For that i will hate and despise her forever. And, believe me, she had adopted Edith only, because she was to old to give birth to a daughter herself. She was 46, when she adopted Edith, she did it not with 40 or 42, or 44, because then she had hoped, to getting pregnant again. She is egoistic, and didnt adopt Edith to give a child a loving home, she only wanted to have a daughter...and buy in america with her husband Edith for Millions of Dollars, (there you have to pay a lot for an adoption, if you are so old) She even didnt raise up her children by herself, she goes around the world because she is so greedy to earn more money with making movies, and for earning more money, she let her kids alone for weeks, no loving mother would do that to her kids. Cate Blanchett is egoistic and cold hearted, the only things, that she cares about are money, money, money, money, and good publicity and fame. She is heartless, she dont care about her children, she dont care about her fans. Why do you worship her so much? Believe me, she is not worth that. If she ever had a heart and a soul, the money greedy hollywood buisiness has killed it. She is not down to earth, she thinks, she is something better than her fans.
These home interviews are so chill and wonderful to watch. No frills, no giant show with lights, little to no make-up or dressed to the nines guests. I can totally get used to this model. It is so intimate to see these people at home, relaxed with zero pressure to get laughs from the audience. Let's keep this format.
I'm gonna miss this at home shows when they're back in the theatre. I find the theatre audience too over the top and sometimes Stephen can barely make it through a single punchline without them ruining. These feel so much more intimate
Blame the audience control. They are waving, signaling for laughter/cheers. Hopefully they will learn from this and be more comfortable with quiet. Btw, i realky liked Kate.
Cate Blanchett is SO AWESOME. Many, many good movies of hers come to mind, but my lady and I just cannot get over how wonderful she was in Thor: Ragnarok. So funny, so badass, sexy and terrifying and witty... she made her costumes look amazing. "'WHOEVER I AM,' did you not listen to one word I said?" hahaha

The black volumes are The Oxford English Dictionary... and the volume numbers run from the right to the left. Curious... I guess it would be easier to pull out Volume #1.

I love this format. I feel like so many night shows have become homogenized, even with great hosts like Stephen. These remind of those great Dick Cavet episodes where people really talked about things beyond the punchline and "the movie comes out on..." Reality and connection without the dramatization is so refreshing.
Schafley was at Northern Illinois University (N.I.U ) and when she started talking about how women should stay home with their children rather than work . I yelled out Then why aren't you home ?--it got cheers from the crowd.
I vote for pajamas!!! There’s something comforting about being home in pajamas watching your show with you & guests in pajamas. It feels like we really are all in this together. It’s more homey & inviting... So my vote is against the suit, against casual professional, and 100% for pajamas!!! I also love this format.. Far more intimate than the studio...
haha, yup! Empty never used desk. Please Stephen, do better than that. However, I like the rawness, more honesty of 'A' Show. Cate Blanchett is a goddess.
I wonder how many Americans have watched MASH without the laugh track. There's a cool little lock down activity for you :) It is different & much better that way!

Cate is completely right - the backdrop has been bothering me since the beginning, but I figured it was important for Stephen. However, she's right - no sense in keeping it 'clean' - desks aren't fun to look at no matter their design :). Great to hear them talk together again. Steven is much shier at home than in the office ;). I'd have pushed on the obvious as to how DT might have convinced that conservative woman to believe in him - for an interesting interview followup is really important - especially when the interviewee is giving you clear indication that they are willing to share their opinions and mind, otherwise it's like interacting with a multiple choice questionnaire. The normal show has sufficient structure to begin with, without the need to make it so fragmented as to constantly ignore what the guest just said so you can go to the next question on your card.
