Did they really expect their cars to be perfectly fine in 140 MPH winds? That hotel needed a rehab anyhow. Moto of the story: never place your late model vehicle in the middle of a Cat 5

You do not think of the mom who's child is dying in Africa due to drought, or the boy who got killed by a car, just right now. That is what hurricanes do. You should have been driving a paid-off 1976 Ford Explorer, Dodge Ramcharger, or Chevy Suburban or Blazer. Why take a being-paid-for Jeep into Hurricane-force winds with blowing debris, and then moan and groan and curse, when you chose to go into it? It was your choice.

Cool footage but two of the more obnoxious behaviors in the chasing community on display: (1) entitlement complex and belief that being a chaser gives you some sort of special status. Lol at the sign on the car. You’re not a cop, not a firefighter, not a fed, you’re just a random with a camera. Whats next? Self-made chaser badges and uniforms? (2) the bubble effect like you’re just some uninvolved observer who somehow is outside the events unfolding and immune to their consequences. Youd think Samaras would have cured that but nope here we have some dude drive his Jeep into the direct path of the eyewall of a major hurricane and yet as the whole town is falling apart around him, hes shocked that *his* beloved Jeep is also getting some damage...i mean who would have thought, right? I guess the storm didnt see the storm chaser sign, whoops!

Rainfall was about 10 inches and caused some flooding. Some rural areas like the eastern golden gate estates didnt have power until November but more urban areas mostly got power and water running in 2 weeks iirc. What would be more useful than a time code for the VIDEO, would be the actual local time the segments were recorded.

Hi, can anyone tell me what App/s or website to use for live hurricanes and tornado's, I live in Scotland and I'm fascinated with them, my dream is to come to America and do the typical tourist thing and do some storm chasing, but until then I will need to make do with any app or website suggestions, many thanks.

This is my biggest fear, getting hit by a major hurricane and being flooded. Texas has come really close to some bad storms since I have been here, but they usually turn and hit Louisiana.

Excellent video. Have to agree with some commenters. Lost everything. Home was 3 miles northeast of TAFB. In your defense though, you guys see so much of this sort of thing in tornados, I think you inure to it, to the personal side of it. Probably would happen to me too if I was involved in your work. No worries.

I meant to say that if someone took a small clip out of the most violent part of the video and told me it was a rain-wrapped tornado, not knowing that it was Hurricane Michael, I would have have believed them.

30:00 I know what kind of wood that is! Looks like your vehicle got hit by Oriented Strand Board, or OSB. That kind of wood is not good for hurricane zones. The vast majority of roofs that failed during Hurricane Andrew had OSB as the roof decking. OSB is very easily weakened by wind driven rain: a neighbor of mine in Wisconsin had OSB decking around his charcoal grill for two years, and it had the consistency of oatmeal.

To be fair, dude didn't complain that much about his jeep. He literally said "OH my jeep!" followed by "god help everybody here". So what? The most he ever said was "my jeep, my car.... that ain't cool". I don't know a single person who wouldn't have said at LEAST that much if a roof collapsed onto their vehicle. Although it was hilarious when he said "I still have my windshield!" and then the entire rest of the roof immediately crashed down on his car 😂😂😂

why are they holding the doors open. is there a reason i keep seeing media people holding doors open, messing up the lobbies and getting water everywhere, aside from so they can get a good video? arent the hotel owners worried about water damage? is there any benefit to keeping doors open in a hurricane? does it help with pressure changes or something?
