Hi Justin , I live in the United kingdom and I went to a quarry machines show called hill head back in 1997 , caterpillar were demonstrating a 992G wheel loader loading a caterpillar 777D rigid dump truck , it was the first one in the country . When the operator parked it up me my mate and my girlfriend went and had a look around it and I was amazed at how big it was because before that the largest wheel loader I had seen was a caterpillar 988F at a stone quarry near to where I used to live . I really enjoy your videos ☺️ .

These are a great loader PA. The one we have at work has over 46,000hrs on it, With an engine or two thrown in! The only real problem with these is they are Notorious for breaking that cast mono boom in half. And I mean catastrophic breakage. They break right about the lift cyl pin area. That is why on the K series they went to the fabricated plate type mono boom the same type that was on the 988G/H series. The real gain on these loaders is that they are FAST! You have to run them wide open & use the throttle lock & give that impeller clutch a work out. Another great video PA, Keep up the good work!

+56pw That's what I've heard from a lot of operators. Seen one that had it's boom getting replaced a few years ago. That would be why Cat changed their design on the newer 992K. Curious to see if they switch back to the twin boom design like they did with the 988.Thanks

Funny that they claim it is so much stronger yet it breaks clean off. Hmmmmmmm.jpg

Years ago I ran a 992B, amazing the difference from a B model to a G models. The new 992's are so much bigger.

a great machine! our mine needs a few more. great for shovel cleanups, loading scoria and taking place of the bigger laterneau 1850's if they go down. i watched one push a stuck komatsu 930 the other night. a majestic strong machine. it's bigger than most think.

+ka7wyf Yes they are! And they are a great production loading unit when matched with the triple 7's!

Well you just got me super hyped up because the D 11 are in the D11 TR my two absolute favorites I'm still waiting for a toy on this one but at least they make the D 11 teeth and I just fix the front hydraulic linkage on it and now it works like a charm.

This is the absolute best loader I have ever operated. I probably have 5000 to 10000 hrs on one. I wish the 994 was exactly the same only scaled up but it's not.

I've seen one on a site I work at, except it has a huge coal bucket on it. Not sure on the yardage but it's pretty impressive

Really good video ! Can you explain me why the 992 series is the only one which has this leverage configuration ? What advantage not using classic Z leverage for bucket movement ? Why this series still remains in production ? Thanks

@pamining are these your mines like you own them or do you ask people to go there mines and talk about the equipment, I don't mean to be rude but I was just wondering.

Is it just me or does the bucket jack have the power stroke on the dump end of it?? I always thought the power stroke would be on the curl. All the other ones are like that but they had the "Z" linkage too. Maybe they changed it because all the main booms were breaking. Too much power?? Good video, by the way.

Why on these large loaders do they have those style controls for the bucket and drive? Why not keep the controls the same as a smaller loader?
@PAmining
@PAmining 9 лет назад
+Blake Budney Because larger mining class loaders are production machines where small wheel loaders are more of utility machines. The operator might spend 8-12 hours a day in this machine loading trucks. Ergonomics and comfort are key to making a happy operator which equals a productive operator.

lol the loaders from Cleveland bros hahaha I've been there too many times I know the channels from PA but anytime I see stuff like that it's still too weird

+Bubbles Samsquanch I used to go to Cleveland Brothers at least once a week when I was a kid to play on the equipment haha. Most of the big Cat stuff around here comes from them.

Wonder how true it is what some of the older loader operators say when they say the 992C can out work the D G and F models.I've always wondered how well these newer machines will age with all of their electronics will they still be running when they are say 30 years old or older like many of their older counterparts are.

+Herbert V Where I used to work we had a 980 G and H. Cat brought a newer "J" maybe, set up like the 992 with the wobble stick as a demo, thinking the company would buy one.. I was running the "G" but the old geezer that did most of the truck loading tried the newer one out and cussed the Cat rep. and that loader enough to send the whole outfit to the pit! All there was was a big WHOOSH as far as I could tell. I have worked with and around the geezer for 20 years or better and we talked about that rig after it left. I thought he was "feather footing" it but he said he had it hammered but just had NO power. Needless to say, he's still got his "H". When I left the "G" had over 24k hours with no rebuilds on engine , driveline or hydraulics. Just pins, bushings and repacking jacks. Engine had one valve cover gasket replaced. Overhead was checked and was in specs and was untouched, yet and still. Cat said it ought to be shot a long time ago. Still ran fine to me. They've still got a couple of the OLD 980 square hooded loaders, "D'S maybe" with thee 3406 in them. They run every day. I just don't see the newer ones doing that.

Lewie McNeely Speaking of 980s I worked for a company that swore by the old 980Bs, spend roughly a 100 hours or so in one, was normally in a D11N. Those old 980s really surprised me some of of what they accomplished, they heaved out some rocks that were nearly double the size of their buckets. was talking to my boss today, he was talking about another local company that has 2 992Gs and an older 992C "sitting in the weeds" as my boss put it, as a back up loader, both the Gs were down one had a cracked boom ad the other the engine was out getting rebuilt. Well they sent the old C to the pit, and by the end of the day they ended up haulling 4 more rounds that day than they usually average with a G { 3 trucks I believe they were running 777Cs) with the C loading. My bos said something about the Gs having a computer that can limit the power output to stop the machine from breaking itself, where the Cs don't have that and run 100% at all times. Dunno if my boss was exaggerating or not because he has 2 992Cs and looking to buy a third.

I know the 980 G (2002 or 03 model) that I ran would pull down when anything hydraulic was activated. I didn't have a problem with it because I have nursed some real dogs in my time and that one would spin the tires and that was enough for me to work with. The older ones were straight from the pump to the bucket by way of your foot. I know the old square-hooded 980 would lift the back tires off the ground as you were rooting out a bucket full of crusher run. I know the newer one wouldn't even start to do what the "H" did. It went back down the road and the old geezer was still spitting and sputtering for a while after it left. Not good for him and I'd have to 2nd it!

Why does it not have joystick control for loader functions.?

+PAmining I think you might be able to get them either way. I ran a 950 with a wobble stick for the bucket. Nice change!
