Yep, two things missing these days "owners" & "operators". Owners want their equipment to be ready to roll on short notice and able to do the job from start to finish in order to get paid. Now a good owner will spend the money to maintain their equipment, a dollar spent in maintenance, is three dollars returned in profit. So having a maintained machine is money in the bank. Now operators are people who know their machine inside and out, they maintain them so they can run them, clean it, grease it and oil it to earn with it. They know the limitations of their respective machine, doesn't mean they don't push it from time to time, but they respect what they are operating. If it's down, they aren't turning and earning. Now if you introduce the two (Owner and Operator) and they see eye to eye, they both make money and the machine lasts as long as possible. Then there's the guys who own it and operate it but by the time the day is done maintaining it is a pain in the ass, even more so when the barbecue is ready and the beer is cold. When that happens, we introduce Warren to the mix. Warren will work his ass off to get it done and try to save a guy some money along the way. Warren is a Swiss army knife in this battle, no matter what the issue is he will get it running and earning again. Folks let's all give a hand to Warren! Thanks for sharing your time with us and the battles you fight. Cheers & Stay Safe!
Machines are made for money making. “These days owners” may also be more appealing towards employers and clients due to their education in English and being able to form paragraphs.
The depth and breadth of your knowledge, skills, and intelligence is staggering. The results of your very hard efforts are reflections of those qualities. Thanks, Warren, for the inspiration to try harder and do better.
I love that you narrate through the video instead of playing music and speeding up the video which I hate. I love no intro, and no outro, great job. God bless.
Warren, you are one hell of a field mechanic. Your knowledge of all the different equipment you troubleshoot and how to get it apart so you can make it work is incredible. Iam grateful to have these videos to watch. Thank you
The relief is tangible when you finally get something like this working. I never had the honor of working on manual clutches, all the dozers I worked on were power shift and that as you know is another story when the machine wont turn ! My guess is that this old girl never had much love for many years and it needs a resourceful man like you to work out how to access the inaccessible.
Nice to see the kneeling pad. My dad told me years ago to put something on those tracks when I was working on track machines. Of course I didn't listen right away....now I'm paying for it...
@@westerntruckandtractorrepa1353 Hi Warren, Glad you can use it. I owned and operated a commercial/industrial/marine refrigeration service company for 45 years. After kneeling on concrete, stones, metal, snow, dirt, frozen dirt, and various types of mud for most of that time my knees were not happy. That brand of pad is the best that I found. Good luck.
Hi Warren 😃 thanks for the video, poor old gal's suffering from over maintenance, lol, why do people think grease and oil is expensive, ha, ha, but your the man who can fix just about anything, I hope customers appreciate the effort you put in , we need more guys like you, your few and far between, stay safe mate, best wishe's to you and your's, Stuart.uk.
Hey Warren, another great informative video, good work. I know you already know this, a 6 foot strip of conveyor belt lay on the track shoes is a real knee saver. Keep the videos coming, I really enjoy them.
My old JD450B dozer has the same trouble, but the lining on the brake band spun off. Need to take it apart and replace the disc and brakes. Great work on this old cat.
Good video as always, sad that people don’t take care of their equipment, but it makes work for you Warren. Grease and PM are both cheap! Be safe! Boca Raton. Florida
Looks like an easy installation on that starter. I always remove one bolt and install a homemade alignment stud. It helps hold the starter when removing and I don`t have to fight to get the bolts started. I like the smaller starters we have a truck with a KTA Cummins and it uses a 50MT that weighs 80 lbs. That is hard to hold in place and start bolts. I have replaced the steering clutches on a wet deck D5. This could be could a hydraulic issue. So lets see what Warren finds out. Yep being a custom D5 makes it a lot more work. The steering clutches and brakes are easy to adjust. As I recall there is a brake band support bolt that has to be adjusted but I could be wrong. I guess I have never worked on a D5 that old all the D5`s I worked on had hydraulic assist on the steering.
Its just past midnight here in Florida when this was posted, I need to got to bed for class at 8:00 tomorrow!! :( Great content as always Warren, thanks!
You breakey I fixey 😂, good effort mate as always she made you work for it! That CAT equipment sure looks well made I’ve never had the pleasure. Regards, Luke 🇬🇧🔧
I put a lot of hours on a D5 but they all had power shift that turning leaver on that thing would kill a guy at the end of the day yikes. We had the 12 foot blades like that on not fun to haul around oh I drove the beaver tail trailer and super Dog fun times lol great video thanks for sharing 💪💪💪😎
Hey man, found you on RU-vid a few weeks ago. I tried doing the video thing a while ago, I’d like to pick it up again. Thanks for doing what you do. I do the same out on the east coast! Keep on keepin on!
I'm going to be quiet so I don't wake up anyone sleeping in that house. 7 minutes later starts one of the loudest diesels known to man. I know there was some editing. Haha
I just redone a D4 cat , Rebuilt Engine , it had spun a rod #3 . I got cranked welded up and turned down . It was a straight drive so i had to reseal the wet clutch . These tractors are hard to work on .
Good luck with Paccar making that fuse box for you we’ve waited months for harnesses to be made. If you need anything else you know where to get ahold of me. Love the videos!!
I had an old D6 9U with oil in the steering clutch housing, I end up put some gas in there and a short drive after that the brake had to be backed off as it was to tight, but it's work every scene, occasional use is the best cure .
Who cares if they cry...considerate of you to think about people sleeping. Our privilege to watch. Quit worryin about the haters!! Thank you for your time
@@ShoshonSun I guess he managed to put enough torque through the disengaged clutch to overcome the rust, corrosion and whatever else had stuck the friction and steel plates together. The brake would play a significant part of creating the load necessary to achieve this, as would placing a heavy pushing load on the machine with the clutch in the disengaged position. I'm only a retired truck engineer and no expert in earth movers.
Too new to have a pony motor, too old to be turbo charged..........mid 1950s? No doubt about it...............this another unique equipment repair, and thats why I am subbed ;)
Warrren, I'm wondering if the problem with the ammeter is relative to that red lead you took off the positive post on the starter and said you would put an eye on it when installing the new starter - I believe you missed that one buddy. Most excellent video though - Cats are GREAT! until you have to work on 'em!
Well it was not as bad as it could have been.you could have had to take the cab off.did cat build the drilling rig it us it aftermarket and the owner put it on?glad to hear you got lots done on the pete conversion.hope to hear and see it run soon.have you tried searching online with wrecking yards for a fuse panel.most are networked together these days.
I think starting the dozer up will solve the dont wanna wake anyone up problem .lol maybe ya can get a cup of coffee made for ya now.lol. Keep up the great work Warren ,cheers to ya from NZ.
Hello Warren. See that you made it back. a well deserved break I'm sure. Question, where are your dogs? Those little critters are part of your channel. Hope they are well? Be well and safe.
It pains me sometimes, to think of the positions you work in, when out in the 'field'. This ole man don't bend like I use too! Great view @ 43:00 when you are done.
Good Job, even if it was a PITA. Have you ever split a nut and use it as a thread chaser on those control rods to clean them up? It is difficult sometimes by viewing on video what your space constraints are in getting access to loosen/tighten components: l appreciate what it really means to sailor edit certain sections of audio.
How did you get the clutch to release? I have a cat 951B loader and I think the steering clutches (dry?) have seized, as the steering pedals can be pushed in all the way but the tracks still go forward...
It Would take a guy with a super PM Program to remove floor plates to grease the linkage. I do know a couple of them that take the time, and it pays off in the long run. One of them won't hire anything but female truck drivers, says they make him a lot more money because they don't mistreat the trucks.
Dang YT corrupted/deleted the audio file, tried another mark dice video worked, checked my sound options, rebooted. Still the same. Leave a comment if this does or not get sound back please. Usually not this technology challenged. Thanks
Sir Warren !!! The parts that you need to finish the PACCAR changeover in the fuel truck ,,did you contact the co. that you bought the motor from to see if they still have ALL the parts needed to complete your job ?? ""KEEP IT SAFE ""!!
We have one of these so i could feel every time you struggled with the controls!Haha. Even when running correctly the controls are difficult till warmed up. I'm curious what they'll do with it. I know very little about drilling.I get the impression that drill machinery get's outdated really quickly? If true they wouldnt get much call for this would they?
I'm sure some drilling gear gets outdated quick Or peob more so the texh that runs it If you just want a hole.in the ground then drilling gear hasn't changed in the last 80yrs The speed the accuracy of the drilling has certain improved The tech of where to drill a hole is the real looser Half the time by the time you buy it someone else.has already released something better
