What does lobotomize mean?

John Bautista being lobotomised is a medical procedure where they basically "cut out" a part of the brain (the prefrontal cortex) by severing the connections it has to the rest of the brain. It is incredibly inhumane and to my knowledge is no longer practiced anywhere. It comes from a time when people did not understand the biology of the brain, and who did not know how to "deal with" crazy people. It was basically just guesswork. Patients would come out of the process mentally retarded and unable to function independently. It was given the term "medically induced childhood". When she began to become incoherent, they stopped.' After the lobotomy, it quickly became apparent that the procedure was not successful. Kennedy's mental capacity diminished to that of a two-year-old child. She could not walk or speak intelligibly and was considered incontinent." Truly horrifying.
