Theres a cleaning solution that gets mixed with the water, it washes then dries the litter style stuff. Problem is the litter granuales are tiny and get stuck on the cats paws, they flick it everywhere and the cats track it all through the house, so you end up cleaning just as much as with normal trays

Lol good point... i was going to get the petsafe one that uses crystals, but my cat has a sensitive stomach and I knew that would gum up on the really wide grates. The cost of the litter was a huge concern, as well...i have two cats and plan on getting another (along with an extra box)...I ended up getting another littermaid. I had the OG one , years ago, but it died with not much use...praying this one is better...its a lot quieter than the first gen. I got the large one...seems pretty nice. They all seem to have their negatives. The robot (cie. Cat cement mixer) is wayyy too over priced and tight for my male cat.

@@adamsapple4350 Try to think like a cat. All this mechanical activity going on where you just want to be able to go to peacefully pee and poop. The cat has to fear that her litter box will start doing its "thing" while she's in there doing her bizniz. Come on people, cat pee/poop aren't radioactive. Your kitty isn't sitting around wishing for the latest Sharper Image-style litter box.
