I love that he calls her Princess Summertime. She is the only light he ever saw growing up, the only person that saw him as an equal to his brother. Sad that he turned out to be the person he became.
Karoline Silva. He jilted her for Anne Boleyn. Of course I’m in the camp that Anne actually loved Henry just like Cathrine but still he jilted her for another woman. And kept her from seeing her daughter when she was on her deathbed she didn’t get to see her daughter before she died because of Henry.
Yeah but in the series story at least, she slept with his brother Arthur and she is also lying about that, so clearly both of them are not with the most pure intentions, they kinda of deserve each other
I need to rant because Henry was sooooo stupid to let Catherine go she was the true queen of England and she was so incredibly smart and beautiful she is one of my favorite women in history because she never stopped fighting and I love her sm and yeah she was also Henry’s TRUE love and that’s the tea but thanks for coming to my Ted talk
I think Henry had some sort of mental illness that worsened as he aged. Things like bipolar can actually do brain damage win the lithium levels stay to high. Every women he married had something in common with her. She was a true noble Queen. After of all of Fernand and Isabela's children she was the one who did them most proud.
It's really sad actually, Henry and Catherine were really happy for the best part of their 20-year marriage... You can tell from surviving letters that they seemed to genuinely love each other and care for each other... A trick of fate would have them to be somehow incompatible biologically and unable to produce more than 1 surviving child. Even nowadays issues with fertility and child loss can drive people apart and it's clear that Henry with a lot more at stake, got obsessed by the idea of having a male heir. And ideally, a spare since he was himself a spare to his older brother Arthur...I was always surprised he didn't simply kill Catherine. He was willing to turn the world upside down to divorce her but in those days people did live shorter lives and could die suddenly from mundane ailments... All he had to do is wait for her to get a cold and "help her along".
I don't think they were biologically incompatible, it was more likely that Catherine didn't give her body a chance to heal and recover after each "failure." When she gave birth to Mary she immediately tried again and when she miscarried she immediately tried again and again. Anne Boleyn also had the same problem. After she gave birth to Elizabeth she tried too soon to have another child. There is a period of recovery women go through after giving birth or suffering a miscarriage. If Catherine had given birth to a boy from her first pregnancy, she would have been given all the recovery time her body needed and could have given Henry many more children.
Actually, I don't think he would have simply killed Catherine, and here's why. Henry was the sort of person who always liked to think well of himself, and had a knack of convincing himself that he was always the good guy even if he'd acted like an asshole. Examples include how he convinced himself that Anne was a witch and adulterer when it was more than evident that she was not, and the way he gave Anne of Cleves a huge payout ("I know I'm divorcing and publicly humiliating a woman who's done absolutely nothing wrong, but I'm giving her lots of money! There, see what a nice guy I am?") I think that even Henry realised that he was doing the wrong thing by Catherine, hence the delving through Scriptures attempting to find justification for his actions so he could convince himself he wasn't a jerk. Catherine knew this as well - remember how she said "And whether this be true or no, I put it to your conscience." Henry reportedly looked shamefaced and for once in his life had absolutely nothing to say.
ChooseYour Poison I doubt he would’ve killed Catherine, either . By then , Her nephew was the holy Roman emperor and could’ve caused some military problems for a Henry and Britain . I wonder if Henry left any journals or letters in his later years that shared any regrets about his choices in his personal life, the kind of revelations that come toward the end of a person’s life .
zipzap570 People are so blinded by the idea of this “amazing love story” between Henry the 8th and Ann Boleyn, that they forget that Catherine and Henry were truly in love. And I’ll defend that fact forever.
You're basing this off a romantic tv show? Henry VIII was a son of a bitch whose only value in a wife was one who could give him a son. He threw away Catherine for a newer, younger model, and when Anne couldn't give him a son he threw her away too. I have never heard anyone describe Henry's marriage to Anne as an "amazing love story" and I'd laugh in their faces if they did. Henry's initial interest in Anne was for her to be another fuck toy and then convinced himself that he loved her when she wouldnt' let him use her. He only became obsessed with her because she told him no. He basically married her so he could fuck her, and figured she was young enough to be more fertile than Catherine so it was a win win. . .until she gave birth to a girl instead of a boy.
@@brownsugar6228 technically he was with anne for 10 years. They were married for 3, but they were together for 7 years prior because henry couldnt get his divorce
the ending really killed me. esp when she asked him if she slept with her sister and he said of course not and turned the question on her and gave her that look ugh so powerful
yes. His face was terrible. Yes, Catherine lied to him about Arthur and now he lied to her about Johana. But he said that he loves her, while Catherine had no choice about Arthur. She chose him.. late but chose because she loved him.
littleworld I'm not sure about that. Few days ago I saw episode's 1-5.. oh god they are so hot together and I feel their chemistry in my bones. But.. I like history so I read some text about Catherine and Henry VIII. It was a shock for me how he broke her, hurted her. Did Henry really slept with Johana? I thought that he loves her but now I'm not sure. I saw Henry's face in episode 8.. I expect a sad ending for her. Maybe he loved her but something change (Henry's face and smile to Catherine in s01e08 changed too, I saw that)
@@littleworld318 He might have otherwise like Ann Boleyn he would have framed her and killed her too but I am forgetting she was princes of Spain. He would have gathered lot of trouble has he done with her what he did with Ann
HeŁ Rampasová I think he really loved her but came so obsessed with having a son that he became crazy. In the end he only cared about getting a song and not about true love. Perhaps if Catherina got a son who would have lived for a long time, Henry would’ve never divorced her
It really wasn't Anne's doing. He was already considering it, when he knew he wouldn't get a son off of her. Anne was just at the wrong place at the wrong time and did not want to sleep with him, because she saw the messes it got her sister into.
“You’re what I can’t live without.” Me, talking to that dressing gown Catherine’s wearing at 0:45. But seriously, this is a beautiful edit. Thank you for sharing your work with us. I look forward to seeing more of your videos!
Idc what anyone says she was the true Queen of England!!! Beautiful powerful strong dedicated driven loyal sweet and kind and she never turned her back on Henry when she should have after the way he treated her .... and I honestly think Catherine and Henry were really in love until she couldn’t produce the Heir he wanted .
@@littleworld318 @littleworld Hello. When the next season comes out I would be very interested in playing 1 of the queens written into the storyline. I was born to play a part like this..👑⚔🛡💘
Wait shit, reading this comment section I realized this is about the douche Prince or King who killed his wives he didn't like or whatever but he liked this one, sort of, so he didn't kill her. Ahh I'm crying.
I really wonder if Harry was a Narcissist. He wanted what his brother had. Then when he got it, the chase was over for him. He always seems to want things he couldn't have.
Because a 6’2 Irishman is portraying this young British Monarch. Ruairí O’Connor has such a handsome Irish face but he’s not a natural redhead - his curls are dark brown.
What an amazing woman she was 😍 so underrated. A woman who had HER OWN ACCOMPLISHMENTS other than a marriage and ignored for the sake of what? A 3 year lasting Queen who only look after for the benefits of herself and her family, one who didn't care about and did anything for the Kingdom of England or people they ruled over, bring nothing but harm to the poor and powerless, a briber. Thank god Elizabeth was not brought up by her and watched her growing up.
Sıla Gülcemal you speak in ignorance, I’m afraid. You may not be in favour of what Anne believed in, but she actually cared very much for the people despite the fact that she knew she was unloved. She believed in true reform of the corruption within the church and was very charitable. When the dissolution of the monasteries started, she was pushing for riches to be used to aid poor people. It was Henry and Cromwell who wanted the money for themselves and to buy off nobles for support. Anne challenged Cromwell on this and that’s why he made up the charges against her to lead to her downfall. While she was vulnerable because she didn’t have a male child, she was actually brought down because she was a political adversary to Cromwell’s schemes to steal money from the church for himself, the king and the nobility.
Its very cruel when you say "thank God that Elizabeth didnt remember her mother". Anne loved her child, cared about her and if she could've lived they would have a special bond.
@@milicat2747 Everything we know about her says she didn't pay much attention to Elizabeth and was only interested in to marry her off for alliances lol she was focused on a boy

There was one season shown here in America called “the SpAnish Princess .” In these photos Henry looks soooooo young . How could any man know what he wants that young ? are there subsequent seasons to this mini series ?
During this period, young people were considered adult when they turned 13, plus, they were married very young. But I don't know how Henry can be so sure about his love for Catherine, she was his brother's wife and she was a Spanish princess after all. I read somewhere that this serie will have a second season, it will be the last.
I just started watching the series The Tudors. Can anyone tell me whether The Spanish Princess is as full of inaccuracies as The Tudor series suffers from? It appears to be starting out with Henry being much older looking than the 10 year old boy he was.
Watched the whole Tudors series...kind of ambivalent. Full of inaccuracies, more like a Tudor romance novel that historical. I wasn't that impressed, the best part was Anne of Cleves
@@katemaxwell2804 One of the problems I'm having the most trouble with is to keep from yelling at the characters to go find a true Tudor dress and/or headpiece. I have the video and the added section on costumes gave the reason for some of the "interesting" costumes they had the actors in. The designers were aiming their work for a modern audience. So they combined things from various periods to create the costumes. So that's one of the reasons for the mish mash and the need to appeal to the modern eye. As to the historical inaccuracies, they are hysterically funny. With the section on Wolsey and his problems with Anne, I kept wanting to ask the writers, "Where's Henry Percy ?"
I think Anne Boleyn costumes were a little over the top and was done to interest a more modern audience. Remember Henry'leather tank top??? I mean really??
well I can’t watch it on starz because it’s not allowed in my country or smth and on other sites I can watch it, but then I have to pay for it or I have to do that free trial thing, but i can’t do that free trial thing, because I have no creditcard or smth
No, Henry VIII divorced with Catherine of Aragon and Anne of Cleves. Jane Seymour died after giving birth, and Catherine Parr survive to the king who died in 1547.
He beheaded two of his six wives - Anne boleyn and Katherine Howard. He divorced Catherine of Aragon and Anne of Cleve's, Jane Seymour died from bed fever and his last wife Katherine Parr outlived him.
@@littleworld318 2 were beheaded 2 divorced and one was like his sister afterwards 1 died because complications of giving birth 1 lived because he died
He mistreated her after the divorce probably causing her to die young shortly after. He then celebrated her death. I'd blame him for it. He was a terrible person.
