Actually I heard this rumor before not to long after the late Prince Philip passed away that it was that princess royal asked her mother the late Queen Elizabeth 2nd that she wanted her title to go to princess Charlotte after passed and rumor had it was saying that the late Queen Elizabeth 2nd was going to talk to Prince Charles and prince William about it but other things came up in the family that the conversation was put on hold and it wasn't discussed after that. But I am glad that princess Charlotte will inherite princess Anne's title now.

They both Will have died by that time as there can’t be two Princesses Royal at the same time and only William can make his daughter Princess Royal once he is King (which Will most likely happen with the death of the King as I doubt Charles will abdicate). Calling this a ‘sweet gesture’ is like applauding your employer for paring your wages on time.
