It's not a recation to snakes at all. My Cat has snake like toys that they love to play with. They are startled because something has suddenly appeared right behind them. If you turned around and seen something big that wasn't there 2 secs before you would be startled as well.
On one hand, some of y’all take this a *bit* too seriously since at the end of the day the cat ain’t harmed and it’s pretty much a harmless prank since no one’s hurt (cat included). On the other hand…this would be like showing a person with arachnophobia a toy spider, so it’s pretty understandable why people would dislike this.
Two reasons for this: 1) cats don't like to be surprised by ANYTHING. A lot of cats will have the same reaction if you put an apple behind them and they suddenly see it, as well - or anything, really. 2) The reason why cucumbers might cause MORE of that typical reaction from cats is that they're green and organic-looking, which to them, in terms of just genetic memory instincts, look like they could be a creature of some kind - a lizard or a snake, etc. So, yes, it's funny to see cats surprised and scared, but honestly, it's kind of a cruel trick you're basically just scaring the shit out of your cats.
Imagine that when you eat, a taxidermy of a lion, tiger, bear or crocodile suddenly appears behind your spine. I think cats in those videos feel the same way
It' just some Cats being startled, it doesn't need a detailed scientific explanation. They got startled because something suddenly appeared behind them tgat's all It's not anything to do with genetics. I know lots of Cats who would not react like this, it's just some Cats are more nervous or more easily startled than others.
They probably think that these cucumbers are a kind of snake. Maybe there's some kind of genetic information that warns them that something that looks like a cucumber is dangerous to stay near. Was there a more dangerous creature than snakes that looked like cucumbers at one time?
I don't think it is snakes. I live in Australia and we have deadly common snakes - they're very deadly and very common unfortunately. My cats instinctively know how to deal with them. They aren't afraid of them at all, they know how to keep away from the head and they know where to attack them without being bitten. I didn't train them. I reason it's instinct. Cucumbers are probably a bit like Catnip ie it's all about the smell. Like Catnip some cats are effected some aren't. I showed my one of my cats a cucumber and he couldn't care less, the other jumped like in the vids so there's no telling except to say I don't think it is the vision of a snake that freaks them out.
@@funnyfromadam True. As well, in cat's defense, how many of us react the same sort of way when we see something that looks it might be a bug that could be dangerous or at least one we don't want to see in the home?
To all those noobs who find the behavior of cats funny, you are laughing at the pure survival instinct of animals. Cats associate the shape of the cucumber with a snake and therefore a potential threat. But some people with their TikTok brains don't seem to get that :-/
personally i don’t use tiktok and i know that they’re scared because they think the cucumbers are snakes but it’s still funny how the cats literally launch themselves into the air the second they see one. as long as you don’t constantly scare your cat, doing it once to see their reaction isn’t that bad
Love that one cat looking back at the camera as if to say , "...that ain't funny man! Aaaiiight there human, just wait till u hafta get up the middle of the night to take a leak..."
Why would anyone want to frighten their cat? Just for the amusement of humans who don't care. I wonder how many cats were hurt when they landed on something.
That means these cats were smart enough to understand that cucumber serves no danger and/or that it was people who brought them there When I tried it with my cat I tried to be as sneaky as possible, but she recognized the fact that I put something behind her, and she made an expression with her ears like "rolling your eyes", and continued to eat food. Had no interest in cucumber after the was done.
Cats are reacting like they are because they instinctively perceive it to be a snake. As a cat lover, I don't find any humor in intentionally scaring an animal.
Yeah like the one time ever they're stressed lol. Also I bet they're fine once they collect more information by looking. It's more like a "knee jerk" reaction than a fear reaction.
Cats arent afraid of cucumber. They are just afraid why that thing suddenly appear near them because it looks like a snake. Proof: give a cat a cucumber in front of them. Cats wont afraid😊
That's amazing! Maybe it is some premortal fear that they think it's a snake or something. Would never guess. We all know cats are terrified of vacuum cleaners. Kind of like how elephants are afraid of mice.
This video proves that some cats/kittens aren’t scared of cucumbers. But I do wonder, why are some cats afraid of cucumbers? It won’t do anything to them.
My cat eats cucumbers, grapes, bananas, watermelon, he also loves cake very much, all cats are like cats, and this one, on a par with a person, eats everything, an interesting eater.
It’s amazing how many people don’t realize that cats DO NOT HAVE A NATURAL FEAR OF SNAKES!! In fact, cats will hunt snakes. The reason they get startled is because it’s a strange object that wasn’t there a minute ago. Cats are very sensitive to their surroundings and when an object is placed behind them that wasn’t there startles them!!
How can they be so mean to what is supposed to be a beloved member of the family ?? I mean the cats must be terrified at first because of them thinking it's a snake until they realize it's not I'm not surprised some of those cats gave dirty looks towards their owners afterwards
