On June 22 & 23, I joined my girlfriend on her section hiking journey of the Long Path. We trained from Grand Central Station NYC to Hartsdale Station and then backpacked the Burroughs Range along the Long Path, completing Sections 18 & 19 starting from Denning Road to Phoenicia, NY. We bagged three High Peaks including Slide (4180’ Catskills Highest) Cornell (3860’) and Wittenberg (3780’) on the first day. We camped near a stream in the beginning of Section 19.
Day 2 was much more desirable with the terrain being much less rugged than the day before. We made our way down to the Esopus Creek and eventually found ourselves in Phoenicia where we treated ourselves to some protein, beers and showers.
The Long Path is a 358 mile trail that extends from the 175th Street Subway Station in New York City to John Boyd Thacher State Park near Albany, NY.
We took a train to Hartsdale and had a friend drop us off in the Catskills. Then we took the Adirondack Trailways bus in Phoencia to the city.
