This was the BEST cattle panel video! I loved that you provided the list with where you got materials and how much they cost. And raising the house height from bottom up is wonderful and how you did it is terrific! i am very inspired to make one now! i subscribed too.

This is the first time I have seen one bulit to extend the height. My husband is tall so when we build ours I am going to have to remember this.
@chefjeiHabits4Healthylifestyle
This made a lot of sense with the Cattle panels I never thought of that was it hard to bow over? I work with at-risk youth and as I keep them in the garden and teaching them to plate, harvest, prep, and cook they have no problem with eating and sharing to the court system their change. My next idea was put up a greenhouse for those winter months and during summer camp. I think this will hold longer than plastic pipes.

This is the best design I have seen so far particulary because you provided venting on the bottom sides, not just both ends. As one person mentioned, a few more building details would be helpful but that is always easy to say after the fact!. I had to stop and start a lot of times to see that 1) you attached the plastic to the front and back using the 1x2's; 2) the 2x4x12's were mostly for building shelves except for the ridge board; and 3) the 2x4s had to be notched for framing. We will be making this in 2 weeks but will have to work out the exact cut dimensions ourselves for the front and back 2x4 part of the framedoor, window framing, side feet and front and back panels. If you have since come up with an idea on how to roll and keep up the side bottom ventilation panels, it would be great to hear about that as well.

Couple comments 1. Your wife looked so uncomfortable at your apology for you asking to "like and subscribe" I'm super glad you didn't edit that out! She looked adorable, and frankly it was the only reason why I subscribed! I never heard anyone say that! 2. Your daughter is also adorable Q's: This looks like it is super sturdy, does the plastic and panels hold up to the snow? Do you remove the plastic in the winter? With the added ventilation does it get to hot to grow in the summer months? What zone are you in (so I can tell if it works for me)? Was it hard to bend those panels down like that?
@HeirloomPermaculture
@HeirloomPermaculture 4 года назад
Thank you. Everything has held up well to snow. We also get out there early and try to sweep it off so the sun can get in. It can get hot in the summer. We open the bottom sides as well as the door for ventilation. We leave the plastic on all year but add shade cloth in the summer. We are in 7a. Build the frame first and then it's easy to curve the panels over and set them in. Driving in the staples is a little awkward but not too difficult. Thanks for subscribing and the comments and questions.

@@HeirloomPermaculture How is it holding up? I'm concerned about the wind taking the whole thing or tearing up the plastic. Do you think if the end posts were 4x4's set several feet deep in concrete that it would stay put? Do you know anyone near Seminole, OK I could hire to build me one of these? I am short, so I don't need the roof higher like yours.
@HeirloomPermaculture
@HeirloomPermaculture 5 лет назад
@@Growmap The greenhouse is holding up great so far. It is somewhat sheltered from wide open winds, so that helps. But, it still gets exposed to storm winds. We considered anchoring it down, but have not seen any need to so far. As long as the door and window are closed for storms, the wind kinda flows over it instead of getting in it and lifting. Look up OOLA and Farming group on Facebook. There are several OKC area market gardeners who look for off-season projects that might build you one. Thanks!

It has held up great. The only 2 holes we've had were from limbs that blew on top of it. They were both small and easily fixed with greenhouse film tape. Just be aware of potential sharp corners etc during the build and take care of them right then. Thanks!!!

@@HeirloomPermaculture With the window opener and a full door, do you feel you still need to be able to open the plastic at the bottom? I was thinking you could reduce bugs and possibly critters by not opening it up on the bottom.
@HeirloomPermaculture
@HeirloomPermaculture 5 лет назад
@@Growmap None of the openings are screened, so if anything is open bugs can get in. but we haven't experienced any pest problems. We haven't had any critter issues thus far either. With the window up high and the bottom sides open, it creates a very nice updraft. Much better circulation that in one end and out the other. We still leave the door open on really hot days but it is more susceptible to the wind catching it and causing damage.

In applying the plastic sheeting, I assume you stapled into the wood at the base, right? I'm curious what size pipe insulation foam you used and does it alone hold the film on the ends? Does it withstand wind well? It's a great idea and we intend to build one. Thanks for sharing your talents!

I attached a 1x2 along the bottom of the side frame. Stretched the plastic over it and attached another 1x2 just below the first one with the second being outside the plastic. This sandwiched the plastic between the two 1x2s in an S shape. The foam is simple 1/2" pipe insulation. It is underneath the plastic just to protect the film where it is stretched over the end of the cattle panels. The film is again attached at the bottom of the greenhouse. The greenhouse is covered in one big continuous sheet. The ends aren't separate. Holds up well to wind. It is slightly protected on North and West sides. Appreciate the questions. Thanks!
