Great video. I have built several hoop houses on our property for various things... chickens coops, garden sheds, tool sheds, etc. I have improved my technique as I do more of them. I no longer use those fence staples (they work, but are gawd-awful to work with). Now I only use deck screws, structural screws, some metal u-mounts, and sometimes small lag bolts. No more nails either. I also no longer use 2x4's for horizontal beams because they tend to bow out over time from the outward pressure of the bent panels (that act like wound-up springs). I use only 2x6's now and sometimes even 2x8's for the main connection points of the cattle panels to wood. It's just how I do it. These cattle panel roofs are great, strong, and are very resilient to weather and falling tree branch punishment.

Grass is always greener. Haha. I spent so much time looking at pictures and trying to weigh the pros and cons. In the end, I wanted maximum vertical grow space without the rocking back and forth of the cattle panel. So far it's working well. There are some things I would have done differently but I'm happy! Needs ventilation badly though!

It is recommended on my plans that you use a padding over the arc of the roof to keep the cattle panels from tearing the plastic in windy conditions. The round pipe insulators are suggested. I need to go see what one to two inch insulating rubber tubing I can find.

Can you do an update on this? I’m wondering how it holds up to snow. I get 15” of snow on average per storm, but sometimes 24” and that one time when 35” got dumped on my little valley. I really like this design. I’m curious, what factor made you decide to put the wire panels on the inside rather than the outside? I wonder about the wind flapping the plastic against the wood corners. Has that caused any wear issues? Your kid is a ham, LOL.

Yep it does but stays put fairly well. It does put pressure on the frame that will need braced

@@LifeOnBeagleRoad Great! What state is your greenhouse in? Have you had any snow? We are in Colorado at 8600 ft and I like the sturdiness of your greenhouse. We do get a LOT of snow--but usually about 12-18" and then a reprieve, etc. Have you had any issues? Also, the "wiggle wire" is a new one for us. What is it and how are your seams holding up?
@LifeOnBeagleRoad
@LifeOnBeagleRoad 4 года назад
We are in PA. We did get a little bit of snow but nothing incredibly substantial yet. That said, we did build a chicken coop/run very similar to this, got a ton of snow on that and had no damage. The cattle panel really holds the weight well. The ridge beam going across supports the rest. The wiggle wire we got from boot strap farmer. It comes in packs of six i think. If you need a link let me know. We are an affiliate with them. The plastic is from them as well and has a 4 year warranty

I’m making a small hobby hoop house under a bunch of palms. I’m using all metal materials. Is there a reason why I shouldn’t put the plastic inside the metal structure as opposed to over it? I live in south Florida where tropical depressions can bring crazy wind gusts. I feel the plastic would last longer inside the structure with pvc coated chicken wire over the whole thing. Bad idea?
@LifeOnBeagleRoad
@LifeOnBeagleRoad Год назад
So are you thinking of pinning the plastic between two different materials?
@LifeOnBeagleRoad
@LifeOnBeagleRoad Год назад
Ultimately I operate like this… do what works for you where you live. Experiment and see what works and what doesn’t.
@jolus6678
@jolus6678 Год назад
@@LifeOnBeagleRoad , yes I was thinking of maybe pinning the plastic between cattle panel and pvc coated chicken wire. I don’t know if it would be a good idea. I’ve never built any kind of structure before. A friend of mine will assist me.
@LifeOnBeagleRoad
@LifeOnBeagleRoad Год назад
Got it. So depending on the plastic, its rated for 3-5 years. If you plan to change it, make sure you have a way to easily remove the outer layer to get to the plastic. Otherwise I think its a decent plan. I will say this… the c channel and wiggle wire has held up extremely well. Good luck!

RU-vid recommended your channel in my feed. I really like this design over the popular electrical conduit structure. This is going to have really good strength and enough sway so that it does not stress the connection points. Nice work!! I have subscribed to follow along with you channel. If you get a chance, check out our small family farm channel and consider subscribing. Thanks!!
