I was just glued to your video. You show the emotions and the struggle not just the good and beautiful parts like other channels. Loved it. Almost makes you think twice before wanting to do the same.

Haha, thanks! We really wanted to showcase some of the challenges because sometimes that’s missing from bikepacking videos. Although this was our first bikepacking trip and we’ve now done several more trips and i think we’ve learned some things over the past 4 years

Get up earlier! While you prepare your breakfast, hang or pole your tent and bag to dry them. Get a tent that has a proper fly. To heck if it weighs 1/2 Lb more. Worth every dime. Your new tent must have waterproofed seams and a bathtub style floor or you will get wet. NIVIA cream available at WalMart and others is great to rub into your chamois and your rear BEFORE you get sore. Nothing is better than merino wool cycling shorts with a quality LARGE chamois. Nothing. And wear Merino wool blend clothing! Thank you for sharing the adventure...and suffering.

Hi Bud! Thank you so much for the tips. We will have to try Merino wool cycling shorts. We really had no clue what was best for that before we left. Also we definitely want a different tent next time.

Ive watched a few videos of people (pros and ultra endurance) riders doing the GDM, but your is the only one that has been more about the ride, the journey and the scenery. All the others were about the rider, your making it about the ride. Whilst your telling your story and suffering as part of a bigger story. Great scenery shots and also very relatable to an average cyclist. Its great to see you have the right priorities, and made the right choice when it came to carrying heavy jars of nutella or a heavy tent .. lol

@Pursuing Mountains old, but when you feel exhausted, you should take a break for a day or two. Same thing happens when working out at the gym. You take a two day break and once you go back you feel 100% better and stronger.

You probably need to stand on the pedals more going downhill on a rocky road. Gives your bum a rest, allows the bike to pivot under you and your legs act as shock absorbers. Great video guys, really honest about the challenges of a long ride.

The tent is probably fine. High humidity, cool weather in a no well ventilated tent will cause a huge amount of condensation. Recommend reading Ray Jardine's book on Lightweight backpacking or his book on tarps. You can also set up a tarp in the rain and set a tent no-see-um enclosure up underneath and be out of the rain and have adequate ventilation. Next time. Best wishes. Enjoying your tenacity.
@PursuingMountains
@PursuingMountains 3 года назад
Thanks for the tip. On another ride we brought a bigger tent and didn't mind the extra 3 lbs, but the condensation was still a problem.

Wade Harris aww I know 🙈 We didn’t find out about them until we already passed them. We didn’t use a guide book like most people do and didn’t see another single rider until Butte. Where we then learned about all these cool places we missed. If we decide to do the rest of the trail next year we plan to get the book and do more research.

I am months late to this... bit... I liked this gdmbr video of yours' best (watching in series) because it shows the discomforts that must be faced. Pitching and breaking camp in rain has been my nightmare. Is there a two-envelope tent that lets you keep the rain fly up until all your kit and the tub are stowed (without needing a third "roof" tarp over the campsite)?
@PursuingMountains
@PursuingMountains 3 года назад
Thank you! We are glad that the hardships we faced aren’t too off putting to watch 🙂 Pitching a tent in the rain is not fun. I don’t know of one that lets you keep the rain fly on while setting it up. That would be very handy though!

who was operating the drone while the two of you were on your bikes?
@PursuingMountains
@PursuingMountains 3 года назад
Great question, the drone has a tracking mode, so I can just tell it to follow us and sometimes it works 🤣. However in some of the shots, I'm piloting it while biking, but that requires a lot of coordination and I'm not very good at it. We usually just end up over filming and we'll have at least a few good segments we can use.
