That was The Westchester in White Plains, New York.

Since we were practically on a floor and it had manual doors getting out on our own was acceptable. However if it had automated doors the alarm or phone would have needed to be used.

DieselDucy I take it that determining the location of where an elevator has made an abrupt stop at is not something for a beginner or a casual rider to judge and it is usually better to activate the emergency phone or alarm if you are in doubt of whether the elevator is on a floor or in-between floors?

That is correct. If u feel unsafe at all. Sound the alarm or use the phone.

DieselDucy I like the idea of the safety video as a future video. Like include what to do if you get stuck (perhaps have an elevator tech manually stop it while you are in it to simulate getting stuck (with the proper clearances). Show what to do if a power outage occurs (perhaps get permission to turn off the light for the purpose of the video), show how to ring the alarm, how to determine your location and the signs to look for that a casual rider could pay attention to to know you are close to a floor or between floors at the time you get stuck, whether or not you should attempt to open the doors or not yourself. Maybe even see if an elevator emergency call service would give you the proper clearance to allow you to do a "drill call" to them using the elevator emergency phone for the purpose of making a safety video so you can express what to say and what info they will need to know for when people do have to make emergency call them when stuck in an elevator as a simulation.

I think he just accidentally overran it because he used the up button at the top floor

Inching an elevator should not damage it. It is a feature used during loading

There was an alarm in here but sadly this elevator is probably gone by now :(

Since it was close to a floor we were able to exit normally without assistance. If the elevator is more than a few inches from the floor or has automatic doors the alarm must be used and you need to wait for assistance

I understand that but did you have to manually defeat the interlock or was it already unlocked?

@@Mattyice-zg8om unlocked. If you were to pay attention you would see that he opened and closed the door.
