A former Toronto Police officer confronts Toronto Police on where they parked their cruiser for a coffee run. Following a verbal back and forth, one of the officers flips the middle finger.
“ rules for thee not for me” is the mentality here. I understand they worked a long shift and need to get something to eat but so do many people in the city. You think if some doctor that worked a long shift, some guy in restaurant or a construction worker that was breaking his back all day tried this you think he wouldn’t get a ticket from them, lose demerit points and then would have to pay more for insurance ?

While I don't care if the cops illegally park, I do care that she stuck her finger up at the public, even if he was being annoying. That's not appropriate, if you can't take some criticism then don't put on the uniform.
If she can't handle it on a coffee stop, what happens in a dangerous situation? Will professionalism prevail? They were clearly in the wrong. Fix it! Acknowledge. Apologize. Get back to work.
Cops who believe they're above the law are the worst. There is no excuse. Not finding a parking spot means you don't get a coffee. You know, just like common folks.
You don't know what you're talking about. Obviously you've never had training operating an emergency vehicle? All emergency vehicles (including Police) have to park so that they have emergency access to the vehicle in case of an emergency call. Can you imagine if a call came over their radios where there's a mass shooter and they had to run to a regular parking spot and find their car ? EMS/TORONTO FIRE are instructed/trained to park the same way in case of a another emergency call You're trained to park you car in a position so that you have immediate access to the road with no obstacles. That's why you'll always see emergency vehicles parked this way.

This guy is exactly right. Police are not above the law. If this was in the course of official police business, sure no problem, lights on and park off to the side. But when you are stopping for coffee, you are just like any regular citizen.

they aren'T authorities.. there's no authority in Canada. This is why we have a justice system. They are SUPPOSED to be peace officers, acting in the name of the law and order.
Respect is earned, not given away because of uniforms. And they both dishonoured their uniforms by their actions. Therefore they should, at the very least, receive disciplinary action by their superiors.

Im a paramedic. We sometimes park where we arent really allowed. If someone had asked me why i did, i would have to admit that i was wrong. Its a silly thing to argue about, especially as a cop with the excuse of "we need caffine". The profesionalism of every career has gone down the drain, i see this type of attitude in my coworkers as well.
I agree I work for the city and talk to public everyday as a function of my employment. We all make mistakes, it’s stupid to be so full of yourself that you can’t apologize when you’re wrong!!! Especially about something as common as parking where we shouldn’t. Damn we can all relate to that.
Thank you for your service…I drive bad about 7 years total before COVID, and I hated the other drivers who made us all look bad…Now what % of cabbies are total POS compared to what % of cops….who knows? What they have in common is some fall through the cracks with massive violations, while others get punished or lose their jobs for minor violations/politics/pissing off the wrong person, seen it many times. I had a bad case of Long COVID in 2023, much better now, I had a few ambulance rides here in Montreal & they were all just SO professional, much respect!
You park there for a reason, and you just don't even know it. You park there in case an urgent calls come across your handi radio. If you're are in an underground structure it's going to take you 5 minutes minimum just to get the to the rig. never mind out and rolling, and depending on the parking , ie in an underground, or even if at a dock with the dockmaster ok, you may looses signal . Naw man, you park as best out of the way, not blocking traffic, and you get your shit, and back in the game.

I saw a post on Twitter where the cops were parking in bike lanes so they could grab coffee. Even if you disagree with the bike lanes people should agree that cops shouldnt just be parking there unless its an emergency.

I know some cops will put on their flashing lights to go through a traffic red light. Once they are through, they shut them off and drive normally again. I have seen it twice.

In my opinion, it's probably around 70%-80% Stormtroopers now. They are driving out or have driven out the Majority of Good Police Officers.

There is an argument to be made here, the officers SHOULD be allowed to get coffee while on duty, and we could consider these points: 1, what if, when you are getting your coffee, you, as a police officer, get a emergency call for, let’s say, a active shooter somewhere, and you have to drop everything and run. If your car is in the nearest parking spot you could find is 1km away, now these officers are left running 1 km to get to their car, where that time spent running could effect lives down the road. 2: these people work long shifts, high stress, and in life threatening situations. Why don’t we cut them some slack? This seems more like, I want to be an equal to you (by you, I mean the officers) which is, in my eyes, petty.

The guy who is filming is a former TPS officer who got fired for reasons unknown. There are likely parking exceptions as there are in Peel. It's up to discretion.
It doesn't matter who's filming, their actions are unacceptable. Accept you were wrong, admit it, and move on without escalating anything. NOT the hardest part of the job...
The guy was an A***ole He was out to get them. Would he rather they park two blocks away and then if they get a call have to get to their squad car before they could respond. No,she should not have done that but there was some pretty big provocation. Obviously this guy gets paid time off coffee breaks. Some professions are required to stay on their job site and respond during the break if there is a need. He showed up to pick a fight. They responded in the first few minutes but he kept at it. He got what he deserved. The public deserve respect but so do the cops
The general public should park like this, and if ticketed, take it to court. Take this recording to court to show the public can park like that if their servants can park like that.

I mean heres the thing Cops should have parking close to the door. If a priority call vomes in they shouldnt have to sprint further down the block ghen fight through parking lot traffic to get to that emergency just because Joe Q citizen feels because hes inconvienienced everyone needs to be. Not dismissing the finger in response but The cameraman needs to understand police rarely get chances for breaks due to calls interrupting it. Its for that reason them having priority parking to respond quickly is nessesary. Also police dont do parking tickets by law does and I know firefighters park in the same spots and no complaints there.
There is currently no such thing as emergency parking close to the door of such businesses. The fact that they're getting away from their car to get coffee is already a bad thing according to your argument, because in an emergency every second counts. And why can't they get coffee at a drive-through, bring coffee from home, etc? Plenty of options are available. Construction workers, preppers and soldiers could give them plenty of pointers.
Don't excuse bad behavior. Everyone is accountable and coffee isn't a cause to break any kind of rule. For anyone. Bring a thermos like every other employee does who doesn't have access to cafeteria or something like that. They were wrong and could've just admitted it and moved on instead of escalating things with a citizen. Horrible reaction from idiotic cops. @yvan2563 Unbelievable you are trying to find any reason to deny the merit that the police have a right to take a break, especially since they work long shifts. The police are allowed to take a break and its not legal to expect them to not be allowed to take a break, that said if a shooting comes in they will drop their break to go deal with it as they are duty bound. Also you cant tell them to pack a thermos its their break time they can get go get coffee if they want. If your workplace has poor conditions that dont allow you to leave to get stuff on break quite frankly thats on you to confront your bosses about not expect others to lower their standards. Guess you think making life and death decisions under the stress of people trying to kill you is the same as your job, based on your lack of understanding of the factors at play I'll assume you don't work that kind of job. Also downtown has like no drive thrus because of poor engineering and favorability for pedestrians. Also don't see soldiers and construction workers cutting their breaks short to respond to a shooting but I do see soldiers violate parking laws as well and construction workers oh man they think they can stop traffic just so they can pull out of their site. Also there are codified exemptions within the statutes that allow police, em's, and fire to violate parking laws. It's common sense. I get some people feel inconvenience and want to take it out on the police because they are held to a higher standard and have a lot more to lose for harming you, for sure a group of hells angels are less likely to have this guy jamming a camera in their face because results will vary. I'm not excusing the officer with the middle finger but it's a minor issue because all that happened was the camera man's feelings were hurt but feelings heal quickly. But also understand her frustration. Cops can't get a break from dealing with criminals they arrest who taunt them saying they will be out the next day on bail for things like murder and rxpe. Now you try to take a break and some guy is jamming a camera in your face trying to humiliate you. Police are humans and take on a huge undertaking and are held to a higher standard but not an impossible standard. I've literally seen police officers take a break, park in a parking lot only to return to find a Karen left a note on their car saying "I'm I don't pay you to get coffee and donuts". If you don't agree with me that the actions if that Karen is disgraceful then honestly I think you are too blinded by police hate to have a reasonable argument.

You said they should not have to rush back to their cars, so I pointed out that in other professions, people bring their own coffee with them.
