An easy, family friendly walk in the North Pennines, the area around Cow Green Reservoir is wild moors and very barren. The Reservoir was built between 1967 and 1971 and the key feature is Cauldron Snout waterfall on the River Tees, which after a long wet spell can be very spectacular. The start is the small car park above Cow Green Reservoir (grid ref. NY810309) where you immediately get a feeling of the wild country forming this part of the North Pennines. From the car park walk back up the road and take the first path on the right (grid ref. NY812307) heading roughly south east. Reaching a cross track, turn left and continue to a tarmac track. Turn right and follow this access road to the dam to join the Pennine Way. Do not cross the bridge but bear left onto the Pennine Way heading south to Middleton-in-Teesdale. The waterfall is a short distance downstream below the bridge.

Few years since I went up there. Last time I parked at Cow Green on the hottest day of the year and walked to High Cup and back. Didn’t put any sun cream on and ran out of drink halfway back. Ended up with horrendous sunburnt legs and remember stopping off at Alston and necking a full bottle of water in about 5 seconds outside the shop 😂 Learned a very valuable lesson that day about planning! Good video bringing back ‘mixed’ memories 😆

Brings back memories from 2 years ago, was a great walk to do..the path down the waterfalls were quite tricky as i recall. It can be an unforgiving place with poor weather but a true beauty in the sun you had a bit of everything which is standard at present 🌦️. Loadsa old workings on the road up there as i recall. Would love to go back and walk to High Cup Nick from the dam.atb Mark.

Thats just typical of English summertime to be crappy weather just to coincide with your hols(same on my wildcamp mate)....went up Cow-green and cauldron snout a few year back in January Alan and I got better weather than you did in July, bloody sods-law......anyway its still an epic landscape up there and Cauldron-snout is some sight whatever the weather, great footage throughout Alan, love the vast and wild conditions up there, great stuff Alan......cheers....Stu.....👍👌

Maybe it's your camera but even a crappy day look's beautiful there ...... although I'm sure that the same can be said for Mars ..... 4:10 Last one in the water is a dirty rotten egg.

Haha, that's one place you do not want to go in, that was quite tame as there had been no rain for over a week (until we got there of course) but I have been there after a few days heavy rain and it is some sight to behold. Thank you so much for stopping by, cheers Alan

Nice hike besides the weather! Lol! Question: how come there isn’t a single tree?
@AlanMETALMAN
@AlanMETALMAN 4 года назад
Good question and it is just miles of boggy, windswept Moors up there, real wild and desolate place , which is not everyone's cup of tea, Mrs Metalman was not impressed lol! Thanks very much for stopping by buddy, cheers Alan
