I love Rapid Basic for the ink mine-primary combo. Makes me feel like I’m playing Demoman but a squid. It’s also a very good Win Weapon on Tower Control. Save the Tri Strike for the Tower as a mini-Wave Breaker(helps to use Tenacity) to keep the enemies off of the tower until someone else can get on, and leave a mine on it to help the rider, or at least completely recover the tower surface in ink. Swim Speed and Ink Recovery help if you’re focused on the Mines, as well!
It can be pretty cool, I sometimes use it for bombs. With like one main and a sub or 2, you can bomb the middle high point of scorch gorge from the safety of your base, it's rather rad
I love the mines as a sub cuz you can either lay em around for safety or theoretically rush in and place em in annoying spots. Say theoretically cuz i think the only “frontline” weapon that has em are undercover brella and that weapon is trash
I used to run this same build on kelp dome in Splatoon 2 before they widened the hallway to enemy base. I want a highly mobile shooter like nova or zap to get mines.
I’m surprised rapid isn’t close to if not better than ttek in terms of crab counter. Rapid has more range and can hit crab easily. The devs also want tri strike to be the main hp special counter, so why is rapid not good?
Tek can paint, poke with an actual bomb, has WAY faster special output (being 190p also helps this case), and it's the better main weapon overall. Rapid *cannot* paint, mines are situational, it's 200p on one of the worst turfing classes in the game, and even though it can hit Tank riders consistently since it's a blaster, you'd need to land *3 shots* to do so. Even if you landed 2 with a direct and a follow up, the Crab Tank user is *almost guranteed* to kill you. In terms of retreating from Crabs, Tek also (obviously) wins in this regard.
