Edit: Caustic is the app, and unfortunately, it is no longer on the Google Play store. It looks like it can still be gotten using the wayback machine: web.archive.org/web/20231227040110/singlecellsoftware.com/caustic
-*watches video for 2 minutes* -*pauses and tries the app* -*messes around for 2 hours straight* -*buys the premium* -*comes back to continue with the video* Edit: *watches for 2 more minutes and is still amazed*
*2 years later, I still want to promote Caustic here.* I play a lot of instruments at the most fantastical and exotic levels right down to 10 string guitars with both hands on it like it's a piano. *In all my years of learning DAW's, this one truly made me a better musician because I was able to become extremely competent at sequencing, processing and mixing sequences.* Now I have no trouble building elaborate sequences in a full scale DAW with VST(I)'s and all. I am largely a melodic death metal and electronic musician, and though I have a large scale studio setup with heavyweight DAW's, hardware etc., I will still use Caustic as my drum machine for many years to follow. *This app is important because a few years of use will make you someone to be taken seriously in a hands on studio.*
It's not a company, single cell software was one guy and I think the reason it's not maintained is that he got a 'proper' job. There is an online Caustic community at singlecell software.
@@DocBolus I wish he had made it open source before stopping working on it, it has so much potential :( I mean yeah I know it's paid but aseprite is padi too and open source. But now if someone doesn't decompile and reverse engineer it it's 99% likely done for...
@@Retrogamer71 Yeah, it could definitely use improvement. You can do a lot with it in its current state, but it has the potential to be much better. This is why it's so unfortunate that it's no longer being developed. I understand that the original dev has moved on to other things, but it would be so fantastic if they handed it off to another developer or team to continue the project.
It's the end of 2022 and it still rules. So much fun, and based on real hw flow ... so there's no better tool to start with. If you reach a level , when you want to go deeper .. there's also Sunvox. (or for retro chiptune enthusiasts .. there's also Deflemask. )
Caustic is a great music production app., but unfortunately, it doesn't work on MacOS 10.15 Catalina or later. In addition, Caustic works well on Windows 10.
I only wish the piano roll (both for instruments and in the song sequencer) could be zoomed in and out and moved around freely with multi-touch. I have kept an ios device around solely for music apps. Caustic is amazing but sequencing anything longer than a couple bar loop drives me crazy. Thats my only complaint.
Unfortunately the new Android update has killed the app on my phone and it looks like the company behind it no longer exists. Really sad to see it all go to waste.
A long time caustic user here (3 years) Yes! the app is very good and the developer has kinda become busy with other stuff, the app is so good that sometimes people don't know that i use a mobile for it :D, I could send you some projects of mine to mess around with for free if you want!
I'd like to know if you can really really midi control every parameter in order to make it work with a complex midi controller in kind of hardware style with the less touchscreen needed.... it would be perfect because i would build a diy standalone studio with it :D
bruh as soon as Gabe hit me with the Synthwave and the beats I knew I just HAD to download this app cause after Groovepad was removed from Playstore I sad cause that's where I made some of my best test beats but now I found this and now I'm happy again :3
The workflow is so easy. It's all I use. The only thing I got gripes with is that in the sequence editor you can't shorten the pattern block from the front. Then also you can't shorten the pattern block less than one bar in the sequence editor either. You have to actually make those parts. Other than that, it's the best free Daw in my opinion. Windows 3.2 I'm referring to.
I agree. It's a great mobile app. I have the paid app on four devices and two are midi'd into keyboards and sequencers, the other two provide back beats. I run it all into Ableton for audio recording.
Do you use a MIDI in and out cable to your recording interface and computer? I wanna learn how to use Caustic on Android, since I already got iPad apps like AUM to intergrate
@@NeonArtifact Hi Charles. Two controllers are MIDI'd into two devices running caustic. The other two tablets running caustic are simply providing a beat. The audio of all four is going into my mixing board and from there into Ableton for recording. Audio recording.
@@TheRealTeebz I was trying to mess around with the Windows version last night and got it working on my keyboard. Is the Android/iOS versions any different? I think I'd rather buy Beatmaker 3 or Flip Sampler by Andrew Huang, what do you think would be best? I only have $20
@@NeonArtifact I haven't used Andrews apps nor do I currently use any Apple products. That said it is on the backburner to convert all my music making to an Apple based ecosystem. As far as Caustic for Android I have no complaints. Like I said, I paid for the pro version and on top of that despite all the free sound packs I even paid for a couple that I really liked. I had to use a dongle between the controller's midi USB cord and my tablet. It's a converter. It converts standard USB size to micro-usb size. That's the key to connecting controllers to tablets and running MIDI on them. I hope that helps. I am not the best at writing things down. Maybe I should do a How-To video.
I love Caustic, I did all my music production on soundcloud with this app on Android 4-5 years ago soundcloud.com/drbolus/brand-newdub this shows you what you can do with this. I would not ever bother with another DAW again, seems pointless. It's only drawback is that it is limited for live performance. The other joyous thing is that the windows version is a free download! Yep you can use this for nothing. OOOhhhh and the modular synth allows you to do some very clever generative stuff too, and build effects. Can't say how good this app is!!!!
I think another saw could be useful, since this add synth wise is kind of outdated, no granular, no DEDICATED slicer, no wavtebale/wave-fold/special-synth (i.e Harmor in FL, the Physical-Modelling ones in Ableton and Max 8 and The Grid in Bitwig), lacking effects. However the power of this app is still incredible and it sounds beautiful.
I was basically looking for someone to comment on this video referring to one that did actual mututrack recording, not just soft synth/sampler tracks. I'll have to check this one out.
By the way. I bought Audio Evolution and I was not disappointed. How cool is this app. Fricking sweet. It's crazy what all you can do on your phone these days. I'm officially starting to sound like a boomer.
hello i have a problem with caustic 3. my redmi note note 8pro smartphone. Works on Android 10. I am told that the application is for an old version. it does not aim on Android 10. Help me
What I really wanna see in the future version of Caustic is audio import - Load WAV or MP3 files directly to a track without using PCMSynth or Beatbox.
There is a free full Windows version, fun if you have a 2-in-1 laptop with touchscreen. And I think one of the highly is you can build your own rack for very specific sound design.
Caustic was the best before FL Studio Mobile came in the game. I used both and I wouldn't go back to Caustic. I like the synth sounds it was making. Had good time with them but haven't recorded $#!t on it. It's aquard. Or at least it was when I was playing with it.
After years of experimentation, Caustic is a no no. Very poor sound quality. Do you realize that both the sounds on caustic and the one imported automatically suffer from too smeared unwanted resonances that is almost unfixable during mixing. It is very intuitive though, with better control compared to other Android DAW's. But totally impossible sound quality. Unrealistic unfortunately
people lying to themselves thinking caustic is a good DAW LMAO save up money to get an iphone and get garageband and you'll realize how much time you're wasting and how much you've been missing
thanks man for the very good tutorial,im gonna try this one so i can make my own music and free for the freakin copyright claim all the time for my videos, giving you my full support man,Subscribed man.
Hey Gabe, thanks for the info. I am a crossover hip hop/Reggae producer and singer. I think you would be a great asset.. I would like to collab with you. Let's talk. Thanks man.
Very nice but what I wished to have is some app with drum loops, I choose the appropriate drum loop and record a song. This is very useful to capture whatever music comes to your mind if you are a music creator. I was using such application with my Iphone (Music notes app) but couldn't find the equivalent for Android. Anyone if you know such app for android please share. Thanks.
for mobile musicproduction caustic 3.2 all the way and for people interested or starting out with musicproduction (btw the desktop version for mac, windows, linux is completely free with full functionality ;)
Hello. Do you feel this is the best app for Android in 2022. Also I am a singer/ songwriter but am new to production. Is there a class I can take for learning to use an Android app for music for beginners?
