Cavalier King Charles Spaniel | Feet & Pad Trimming Tutorial
Cavaliers and similar dog breeds are notorious for overgrown hair in the pads and around the feet. Both groomers and pet owners of these type of breeds will no doubt see this issue time and time again. Why do all these grooming videos always show incorrect way to groom cavaliers! So much bad info out on RU-vid. True Professionals say to only trim pads of feet . The slippers are a must have to show dogs or be correct style for breed of dog. These fuzzy feet aka slippers are trademark for this breed.

Because these are not show dogs,they are pet trims..If they were show dogs, we we do show trims..

@@GroomingByRudy I think it would be educational to disclose to viewers that this is a pet cut and not for show dogs. So uninformed viewers know their is a difference.

@@haroldmichael3492 I was thinking the same thing ALL THE WAY THRU! There is only 1 I've seen that showed CORRECT GROOMING of the Cavy - Dog Grooming Tips and Tricks (Suzanne) Some have the audacity to consider clipper cutting the entire body. Watch the AKC judging of Cavy's here on the tube!

He looks so good! This is so helpful! I always wanted to be able to get excess fur out of my cavs paws between groomings. It really helps so much with traction and you can tell they like it better. 😍 love my cavs!

Also-Need to extra careful on the biggest pad on the foot as there is a tendon behind the biggest pad before the smaller pads. Skipper is darling.❤️🐾❤️🐾❤️🐾 ❤️

@@nickymurphy8287 Yes it's only between the paw pads for showing and the nails of course. My trainer breeds another breed and everyone around the show this weekend was recommending a Dremmel and clippers, but when I showed her what actually needs to be cut out and that the Grinchies can get caught up in the Dremel and the electric trimmer could cut chunks out of fur out you want to remain she showed me how to bend just the lower part of the foot back at the first bend so that you can effectively hand clip with curved scissors rounded at the tips the fur between the paw pads. I wish some Cavalier people would do a video on this. If you have and can get into shows in the area I think arrive early and hang out in the grooming area. These days AKC shows are only open to exhibitors. This weekend at Purina we had all out-of-town Cavaliers so they were none of them owner-handled, I found just a little factory back there, of processing the different breeds that a group of professionals were showing but if you can get there in time to observe their process for the breed you can get some ideas. My issue is in part behavioral. My trainer takes no guff so once she corrects my girl it usually sticks. I hope it will. She explained why the dog was resisting, what I was doing wrong, but she also corrected the dog so we will see.

What would you suggest if we want to just trim the “grinch feet”? I don’t want to completely lose the slippers, but how do I trim it properly?

just try to trim less hair on top of the foot,but still do the pads short,to prevent slipping

We have 2 cavalier king charles. We call the overgrown feet fur "grinch feet" 😂. I have been mostly scissor trimming, but I got an electric clipper to help speed the trims along. Thanks for sharing a video! Looks like we've been doing the trims correctly.

This is NOT how you trim a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. They are a natural breed and are not trimmer like a sporting breed spaniel. You only trim between the pads to keep them from sliding on a floor.

As a professional dog goomer,you trim a King Charles Cavalier Spanial as or any breed in accordance to what the owner requests..This is what the owner requested..They are Pet Trims not show trims..Thanks for watching
