Another cave in the series 'We do these caves so that you don't have to'. This cave with little record of visitation provides some sporting caving with its tight squeezes and very muddy passages.

@sniffanyB

I agree. I'd rather have it just the natural noises of caving....the music is kind of distracting. But thanks for the videos, I love watching all of them. Seeing as I'm too scared to do this myself. I would have panic attack after panic attack. I'm surely not someone you'd want with you in the types of caves.

Keith Edwards yes that is a fair point Keith. I have watched all your videos and find your voice very therapeutic and that is why my personal preference is to have no music. I think the problem is that every time I turn the volume up to hear your voice I have to turn it down again because of the music being so dominating. Perhaps if it wasn’t so loud it may be better. Thank you for taking the time to respond though. Ps you are a brave bunch as there is no way I could cope with such tight spaces. The hardest I’ve ever done is White Scar Cave haha
@CaverKeith

Wow! Thanks for watching all of the videos. You must be a glutton for punishment. :-) This video was made in 2013 and hopefully my editing skills have got better since then. I've just played the video, for the first time in several years, and have to agree with you - the music is far too dominant. White Scar beyond the show cave is excellent. I will have to video it one day.

I'm a fairly new subscriber and was going to post the exact same thing. These videos are way better without the music. The music absolutely ruins the imersiveness of the video, it's so out of place it's almost obnoxious. Other than the music the video was amazing! Not sure why I watch them, those tight spaces freak me out, but the caves are strikingly beautiful, thank you for sharing! (But please lose the music, it really does suck lol)

@CaverKeith
@CaverKeith 6 лет назад
Pleased you like the vids. In this cave the way out is the reverse of the way in. The tight sections are quite short so meeting someone coming the other way would not be a problem. It's also a rarely visited cave, what we call a collector's item, so the chance of meeting anyone else in the cave is very slim.

Keith Edwards what about if someone gets stuck...that is someone that is not part of your team considering I've now watched 20 vids of you'res or so and it seems none of you would ever get into that position in the first place. (Most likely you would back out.)

I can't help but think when you get into a really tight squeeze that half of you is pulling back refusing to go through knowing you have to do it again. When the woman in blue was hung up in the beginning I bit a hole through my lip! I didn't know I was even biting it until I tasted blood. She is my hero!... And Mark, he keeps going in KNOWING he's going to get hung up.

@@maureenkidd6629 Hi. Unfortunately phone signals do not pass through solid rock so we don't carry phones. Once we are underground we are effectively cut off from the outside world. Perhaps this is one if the reasons people like to go caving? 😊 Rescue teams have low frequency radios which take a bit of setting up but will transmit a signal through the rock. The surface and underground radios have to be vertically aligned.

@michaelbarrella3043

Over time portals become exposed after rains and other weather events. Especially land slides. All the dirt slides right off the bedrock, exposing caverns one would never see otherwise! There are thousands of unexplored caverns around the world. Wild to think that all these cave systems truly go further than we ever see. There could be a small hand sized crack that timately leads to another big beautiful cavern, but we will never see the majority of them, being just out of reach.. fascinating stuff. Plus with tectonic plates always shifting, new caverns are constantly created/ exposed. Granted over thousands of years, still a work in progress as the earth changes

I can't honestly remember but I'd guess at a couple of hours, possibly a little less. The squeezes will slow a party down and the mud in the crawls really sticks to cordura so it's like crawling over velcro. The cave system is what we call a collector's item.

I'm sure this will get a laugh. I hesitate to say this as I don't know cave exploring do's and don't. We found a spot with tight spots in a Kentucky cave. I went back to it in the summer and took a hay hook in with me. For me it was a deal breaker. I pulled my way through by hooking the hook in nearly every pull. I had enough on my sides to move my arms. Even moved through a spot I'm positive most could not due to eating to many cheese burgers. Wasn't nessary to pass through, but I could. I see that all caving people don't want to take a hand in tight spots. Maybe I was breaking some sort of caveing code. I hope not.

Can i ask if you've ever been in a cave where the air was not pure and you've struggled to breathe? Awesome videos btw... 😁
@CaverKeith
@CaverKeith 5 лет назад
The air quality in caves is normally excellent. Caves are a mass of interconnecting passages and even those that are too small for humans to enter can still carry a good flow of air so caves are generally quite draughty places. One is much more likely to come across a build-up of CO2 in a mine as they are man-made with a number of blind headings so there is no air flow. The only place in a cave where I've come across poor air quality is when digging out new cave passages where there is no air circulation. In these cases we have used battery-powered fans to blow air in or out from the dig face. Thanks for watching and pleased you like the video.

HI George. You are right. I hope I've got better at choosing music since then. It was my attempt to engender a bit of excitement. I failed miserably!
