I know that others have mentioned it, and it is true that the Yagi antenna is directional. But, I see that as a positive for this application. Chances are you are going to know where the people are that you need to talk to on FRS/GMRS in an emergency/SHTF situation. So, you can point the antenna the direction where the people are, or going, and be able to communicate with them much better. So, honestly, I think you're on the right track with that antenna. So, to the naysayers - think about where the nulls are with the antenna vertically polarized - straight up, and straight down. I think he'll be fine.

If you are only planning to use the VHF/UHF rig on the GMRS/FRS frequencies, I would suggest a DB404-B, DB408-B or DB411-B antenna. There are several manufacturers, but they are all close enough it doesn't matter which one. If you are planning on utilizing anything in the VHF frequency range, like MURS, I would either get a second antenna the same style as the one for UHF and just use a coax switch or just do your best research on a good commercial grade dual band omni directional dipole....

Yagi antennas are directional. Basically pointing your entire signal in one direction. You're going going to want an omni directional antenna.

That is definitely NOT the antenna you should be using for your GMRS. Yagi antennae are extremely directional and it will NOT perform the way you need for your application. Find yourself another omnidirectional antenna like you have for your CB...
