I put in one of those electronic ignitions and it left me stranded at a inconvenient time. So I went back to my trusted BOSCH with the point setup and never looked back. I keep an extra points and condenser in my glove box. With a feeler gauge and small screw driver. Peace of mind!! I've never have had to use those back up points yet.
We have been running the Perteonix for awhile now with no issues. We have a theory that the module was getting hot. There was a lot going on back then and we learned a lot since then. We think the engine would run hot and cause the electronics to fail. We have added a doghouse cooler, and a full flow oil pump which lowered the temp a lot. We have thought about trying this setup again but just haven't gotten around to it. It's a case of if I knew then what I know now. Lol. Always learning that's for sure.
Never thought about the ground side of things. I imagine that could cause the module to overheat? We have thought about digging this setup back out and giving it another go. Definitely more inclined to with your information. Thank you.
@@2GuysandaBug I am looking into these for my cars and trucks. Talked to a guy today he was saying about the coil fails. Also remember guys saying you need that billet bracket to get adequate ground. I will be talking to CB at the show to get the info. Empi has a brand new similar one with their own coil. I may look into it. has everything for $220. looks like the cb one with different high energy coil.
We used the one already installed. The current motor is a DP 1600. We are thinking about building a 1915 so we may need to change the springs for that setup.
I was considering getting this distributor for my buggy but after hearing about your issues with it I'm kinda reconsidering now lol I don't feel like getting stranded in the woods somewhere if this happens to me
Hard to say really. We ended up removing those setup and running the pertronix. I think we have an electric issue that was causing this setup to fail prematurely. We have been running the pertronix for a few months with no issues. Either way going from points to electron seems to help the over all performance and not having to adjust the points every month is a big win.
