CB Radio Installation Land Rover Discovery 3 - Full Hidden Install Video!
This is not a "How To Install a CB Radio", but a "How I installed my CB-Radio" video.
It was finally time to start on the CRT-MIKE cb-radio installation in my Land Rover Discovery 3. It would turn out to be a bit more work then planned and with a bad back it wasn't going quick.
I'm really happy with how it turned out with the hidden cb-radio install, with all hidden cables and wires. The rj45 cable to the front with the multi-functionnal microphone controller, is a perfect solution for the Disco 3 and other more modern cars that you want to install a CB-radio in.
Aux power was hidden in the rear, and already connected to the ignition, ,so it was easy to get the radio connected to a good, stable and fused power source.
The antenna cable goes out behind the rear tail light, in a different location than planned, but the pressure valves blow out worked well as a cable push through. Not for wading, but I won't be doing that any time soon, not that deep anyways.
With the mounting point of the cb-radio antenna on top of the roof rack, it was a pretty easy and straight forward job to get that install, and luckily I could drive out of the garage afterwards. Disclaimer, I have hit the garage door top once or twice. 😅
The complete Cb-Radio setup turned out really great in the Land Rover, and all I need now is to get a proper RJ45 connection/outlet in the roof, and it will be all done and proper.
I loved this install and make me want to do more mods to the Discovery, if you have some suggestions then please let me know! 👍

I hope your back issue resolves itself, nothing worse than a bad back. Install looks good, I got a giggle at the added cheering when you figured things out.

Hehe, giggled my self. 😂 When you with your friends and do these stupid messups you always get an ear full. 👍 So wanted to add that to the video. Can't let it slide, hehe. Back is better now but it comes and goes depending on how much I exercise. I'm sitting to many hours behind a desk working or editing so if I don't do some form of workout, and add some bad angled heavy lifting, the back tends to not like it. But I have learned and I try to be careful. Thank you for your good thoughts Peter! 😊

Thank you Russell! What is a retractable yanyard?? 🤔🤔
@russellgiles1531
@russellgiles1531 7 месяцев назад
@LandRoverDrive ah ha, it could also be called a retractable key chain. It is a small spring-loaded device that has a cord inside it that pulls out and rewinds itself.

@@russellgiles1531 That’s genius, know what you’re talking about, it’s like the ski resort card holder I had when I was younger. Think I have one laying around somewhere. 🤔🤔 Thank you, will put that into practice right away. 👌

@LandRoverDrive excellent, attach the main body to the roof lining and clip the mic to it, then you can pull it down to talk and then let it retract out of the way. Thus keeping your eyes on the road 👍

I would have turned the antenna base towards the front, so if you hit a low branch the antenna will fold down towards the stern (rear).

Legend! My backhurts too. Ahaha I like your roof rack. Who's the manufacturer? Cheers

Thanks, and haha, I think it's an age thing. 😂. The roof rack is from ProSpeed, this is the old version, pre 2023, they launched a new series this year. Really happy with it and do recommend them, 2 years on the car and 2 winters with salty roads, no visible rust or lacker peal yet. I have a 2 part episode about the install, part one -> ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6jMxEOoVa4Y.html If you end up buying from them, let them know you came from Land Rover Drive, maybe I could get sponsored at some point. 😉 Best, Simon.

Thank! Forgot what the name was for the measuring device. The setup worked so good that we never measured it, but would be fun to test it after a while and see. 😊 Best, Simon

Hi Simon, any reason you didnt want to mount the radio under the dash or console somewhere then run the cable out through the firewall grommet and under the A pillar trim to the roof rack ? Could of saved removing the interior trim and for power you can piggy back a 12V socket, also there are some STL files available on thingiverse for microphone holders that you can print if you have a 3D printer or access to one.

Hey Nick, Honestly I'm not really sure, but I think it was due to the fact that I was planning on putting the battery in the rear quarter. So since I was going to that I could combine it with the radio and I knew about getting wires out the back of the tail light. If you watch part one: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-h02NMqoTlnQ.htmlsi=WxbGcptsWEfdKJA6 You will see what I mean, if you haven't watched it yet. 😊 Thanks for the 3D tip, have a friend that can print will take a look at it. Will be testing out something first, see the community page here to see: www.youtube.com/@LandRoverDrive/community Thanks again, love sharing and getting tips and ideas for the build, so much part of the fun of Overlanding. 👍 Best, Simon

no worries, had my D3 over 6 years and done almost everything i want to the vehicle, i have a ARB bullbar so antenna is on the front and my radio which has a remote head is under the center console with the head just below the AC controls, microphone just to the right of the stereo. My aux battery is under the bonnet near abs module ( australian RHD ) and i used the grommet in the firewall near the brake booster to run all my wiring thru.

@LandRoverDrive 7 месяцев назад
Will have a look at the grommet in the firewall, will have to run some wires when I'm going to add extra lights for driving and camping. 👍 That ARB front bar would be nice, not legal here in Norway, and not sure I could have it on without passing the legal GVM at 3.2Tons. I think a rear bar will be in the works first as mine is getting well rusted, so thinking welding something my self with mounts for spare wheel and such. 😊 Happy new year Nick! Simon

@@LandRoverDrive and to you, when looking from the front, the grommet is to the left of the brake booster. Its where the clutch m/c would be on a manual car and is ideal for passing cables thru to the cabin.
