Another chat video. In 2021 not everyone understands the hobby of radio but when CB Radio hit the UK in late 1981 it was the first true Social Media platform. As teenagers we loved the freedom. However mothers looking out for their teenage daughters sometimes had a very different view.

Hey Fred, thanks for sharing your stories and taking me back down memory lane. My dad got a CB radio in 1966, it was a Pacer-II, I was only 12 yrs. old at the time. I was hooked with radio and that started my adventures with shortwave radio etc. I ended up getting my Novice amateur license in 1968 and currently hold the Extra class. I still have a CB radio, a CRT 6900N and continue to chat with the locals here. I enjoy your channel and keep it going. 73 from 770 Rhode Island.

@Fred Thank you very much for posting these. It really takes me back to when I was very very active on CB radio. The memories are bittersweet but there was probably more sweet than bitter. Some of the sweet I wouldn’t mind revisiting, meaning going back to, and some of my behaviors I wish I could go back and change. I’m back into CB radio now but as you remind us over and over again, it’s nothing like it was back in the day. I sure do miss those days though. And a few of the people too.

Haha i love these CB stories. I was born in 81 so missed the hey-day. It wad still a thing for me as a youngster but that's because my dad was a HAM (also a CBer from the 70's) but i certainly don't have stories like that from it 🤣

When I watch your videos I go into dream land. Not because it’s boring, it just takes me back and I start thinking how good it was. Brings good memories back. The way you talk is how I used to be. Thanks for taking me back to the 70’s/80’s. Keep these videos coming

Funny story, Fred, gave me a few laughs while you were telling it. A bit near the truth sometimes, lol. It was harder out in the countryside mate, but we had some laughs and met some girls, and ladies. It was a lot better than social media these days. You had no idea who was on the other end, it was a better way of meeting people.

Hi I was one of them breakers that was on the CB until the sun came up then sleep all day. My mam wasn’t happy me keeping her awake all night. If I wasn’t on it all night it was because I made the lec go out and didn’t have 50p to put in the meter. My mam would say in the day you have nothing to talk about but you got plenty to talk all night. Cb days :)

thanks for the nostalgic vid Fred, growing up in the sticks in the early 90s everyone had a home base, i got in trouble with my older brother as i put a mic in his bedroom and broadcast him and his GF having fun times, the lulz me and my mates had were worth the beating I received when my brother found out :)

Some of the comments we get for our motorhome build are shocking lol. I am looking to get back into CB radio, having been on CB back in the 80's. I have been watching CB channels such as yours for several weeks now trying to convince myself that I will like to be back on the air 🙂 We have an old American RV here in the UK and feel that a CB would fit in really nicely. The next stage is telling my other half that we need to spend a few hundred quid on some gear, but have not got that far yet lol🙂

CB has really made a comeback since lockdowns. A USA RV without a CB radio is not complete :-)

@@UK-CB-RADIO Well, I have broken the news to the other half, that went down better than expected lol. I am looking at the President Mckinley (expanded) which seems to have rather good reviews on YT. Now I have to decide on the antennas for the house and the RV. Keep up the good work on the channel Fred - John.

The girls being pounced on in CB land carried on to PC when Yahoo chat was around. My then wife would go on and within seconds, she had hundreds of PM's pop up on screen, it was a nightmare.

I never thought about CB being the first social media. That is so true Fred. It was a good thing but around here there was a lot of arguing and people a handful of people keying over people. Of course, once they were locatd, the keying stopped. One guy hooked his truck hitch to a keyer's tower and pulled it down. It was the only way to stop the spread of keying and interuptive people.

Hi Andy. Yes a lot went on and you had to be careful not to upset the wrong people because if they found out where you lived you got a heap of trouble.

Had my coax cut once in these apartments. Ran a Uniden 2510 back in 92, 94 or so. We all started with the channel 14 walkie-talkie setups as a kid in the 70's. Remember when they went from 23 channel to 40. Lots of memories

I had an Amstrad 901. Their used to be a common fault with the ptt on the mikes, easily fixed by inserting a small piece of screwed up paper inside between the ptt and the contact. Otherwise your audio would have a very low volume
