I used to listen to this back in the 1970's...they broadcast it on AM radio in NYC. I used to lay on my bed and listen to it just after it got dark out...That was back when I lived home with my family...they're all dead now...but I still have my nephew and his fiancee...thank God.

I listened to these as a child. Grew up without tv. My brothers and sisters n I would lay on the floor around the radio and listen. Today, fall 2020 I found these somehow. My grandson n I go get something to eat, bluetooth my phone to my car radio. We listen as we eat supper on Saturday nights. Making memories. I hope he shares with his grandchildren one day.

Time to pull the bedclothes over you with ghost stories and fantasy! Perhaps two radio play ghost stories I’ve produced AND a brand new mystery listed on my channel “Claude Chabot Presents” right here on YT AND a radio fantasy comedy, “A Trip to the Moon” starring Joyce Randolph of The Honeymooners, which features Larry Robinson, who, as a child actor, actually worked with Orson Welles. Here’s the link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Hex2ltykNTM.html--Claud. If you don’t want to click the link just search “Claude Chabot presents” on RU-vid.

When I was a kid in the 1970s, I had a clock radio that would shut off after an hour. I would make sure to be in bed by 10:00. I would set my clock radio and listen to the CBS Radio Mystery Theater, and it would shut off at the end of the show. Listening to the shows in the dark was much better than watching TV because the imagination is much more powerful. It is wonderful that you are posting these great shows, I was just telling my wife that instead of watching TV at night, we should sometimes listen to these radio programs. People used to do that.

My dad used to record these on cassette tapes when he was working alone on the night shift. We'd always listen to the tapes in the car on vacation. I also used to listen to the tapes in my room when I was in middle school. I listened to my favorites over and over! The stories are great, and I learned a lot of new words by listening--words like macabre, modus operandi, etc.

Oh, and I loved/love EG Marshall. His voice became synonymous in my mind with Rod Serling, the Control Voice on TOL, the hosts of Quiet Please, Dimension X, Lights Out, Mlack Mass, and other iconic voices that represented epic tales fueled by fervent imaginations, including The Crypt Keeper et al. Anyway, E.G. Marshall was brilliant.

Hi again, Chilly. A good episode if rather predictable. CBS Radio Mystery Theater was essentially a revival of the old Inner Sanctum series of the 1940s. Updated in many ways for the 1970s, including much more science fiction. Himan Brown created both, and was undoubtedly a genius. We all owe him a great debt for the legacy he left us in a very long, productive life.

I always want it to end differently than it does. But the fact that it doesn't is why i keep coming back & listening to it again & again. I keep hoping to find some hidden meaning. Much like my parents & i always tried to connect some sense of narrative to the death of my oldest brother in a driving accident. We investigated everything from his own blood tests for drugs or alcohol, his passenger in the car, the officers on scene, the local weather reports... everything we could think of, but nothing could show that it was more than just a random accident. In our case, that made it harder, because part of resolution, you need some one to blame. But sometimes there is just no guilty party. It really was just one of those hazards of living.

The doctor character sounds like Edward G. Robinson. That makes it even more spooky as he died four years before this was taped.

Nestle's Quik (the powder kind in the square can) chocolate milk. Koogle banana-flavored peanut butter on toast. Pepsodent tooth powder. Pajamas. Warm, soft light from an actual incandescent bulb in the hallway shining through the 6 inch gap of the bedroom door. Soft breeze moving the sheers on a warm fall night. The smell of transistors and leather from your small radio, hidden under your head on the pillow. "The CBS Radio Mystery Theater presents...."

Do any of you think it's silly for a member of the notorious Generation X to have a taste for Old Time Radio?

You have to remember that GenXr's grew up in the analog world. I remember renting 16mm projectors from the local library and watched Laurel & Hardy movie reels & such way before home video. As a kid, we would play outside with our bikes, play with toys outdoors and eventually introduced to the first video games like Pong then Atari games. At night, I would listen to AM radio, not stereo, at 9pm for CBSRMT and would really use the imagination of the mind while drawing and such. Not silly at all but then again, radio shows may not be for everyone.

gutez I asked because I'm also a GenXr. It would be nice if the Millenials develop some respect for the old school stuff.

gutez For the record, I have a modest collection of Old Time Radio shows: The Bickersons, Abbott and Costello, The War of the Worlds broadcast, but the majority of it is none other than the Shadow.

I'm so glad I found these old cbsrmt on RU-vid. It takes me back to my childhood in the seventies and listening to at night with my grandfather. Such a great time. Glad to be labeled an X'r

William Norton I'm sure there are some Millennials out there that may have an appreciation but probably very few that have interest for they were quite young toward the end of analog, so they may have no knowledge let alone very little experience or recollection being exposed to the stuff we have been able bridge.
