Frank’s Place was an incredible show that got a very raw deal. I think if it lasted longer, what it would have done for the future of television? I think it’s so far ahead of its time with its writing and sophistication, that it would do very well today.
I also have seen all 122 episodes of Kate & Allie, all 47 episodes of Pee-wee's Playhouse, A Garfield Special Christmas, Will Vinton's Claymation Christmas Special, and Christmas Comes to Willow Creek.
Seeing Tom Selleck walk into the clouds and disappear near the end was kinda sad...I think it symbolized how the 1987-88 season would be the last one for Magnum p.i.
@@shaneharrisnj3484 As I recall, Magnum's character *was* shot and killed in the 1986-87 season finale. The producers at that time were anticipating that CBS was not going to pick up the show for an eighth season. There was viewer outcry over the seventh season finale, so in response, CBS ended up renewing for an eighth and final season so that the story development could be rectified--and Magnum was brought back to life. That walking into the clouds scene was from the season seven finale.
For 1987-88, under CBS' "CBS Spirit" season, 60 Minutes was the network's top show at #8 with Murder She Wrote being the only other show in the top 10. The CBS Sunday Movie was doing well in the teens. And only Dallas and Newhart were hanging on in the twenties. So as you can imagine things didn't look so good for CBS during this season. It's a sad shame too, because I found this song to be awesome.
CBS fell to third place in 1987-88. This was the season where 9 of the Top 11 (there was a tie for 10th place) were sitcoms: The Cosby Show, A Different World, Cheers, The Golden Girls, Growing Pains, Who's the Boss, Night Court, ALF, The Wonder Years.
Imagine they used this same jingle today...it'd so cool and weird at the same time to see Sheldon Cooper, Raj Koothrappali, Robin Scherbatsky, Barney, Penny, the CSI people, Shelock Holmes, Joan Watson, etc in the promo
CBS has the proudest history of the three major broadcast networks. Most of the shows that we consider classics today, were broadcast on CBS, such as: "I Love Lucy", "The Honeymooners", "Gunsmoke", "The Twilight Zone", "The Andy Griffith Show", "The Dick Van Dyke Show", "The Carol Burnett Show", "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" "All in the Family", "MASH", and "Dallas".
I loved this promo, but I wished CBS had more sitcoms that appealed to younger audiences back then like NBC and ABC. I know they traditionally catered to older viewers, but that wasn't working in 1987. They let ABC overtake them for 2nd place.
They tried appealing to younger demos (charles in charge, charlie and company, airwolf) but it didn't work. They were also quick to cancel duds unlike NBC in the early 80s when they were dead last and could afford to keep 'duds' like cheers and hill street blues.
The Big TV networks' 1987-1988 TV season campaign slogans: CBS "CBS Spirit, Oh Yes!" NBC "Come On Home To NBC!" ABC "Something's Happening On ABC!" FOX "Don't Let FOX Weekend Pass You By!"
If CBS was doing this today, you'd be seeing people like David Rossi, Spencer Reid, Penelope Garcia (Criminal Minds), Sheldon Cooper and his pals (Big Bang Theory), Young Sheldon, Adam Burns, Andi Burns, Don Burns (Man with a Plan), the SWAT guys (Hondo, Street, Luca, Deacon & Tan), Dr. Jason Bull (Bull), The 5-0 Guys (Steve, Danno, Grover, Ortega) Madam Secretary and several others...
Local campaign for Dallas fort Worth in 1987-88 season Channel 4 spirit oh yes kdfw tv (now a Fox affiliate) Come on home to channel 5 kxas tv The spirit's happening wfaa tv Don't let fox 33 pass you by (now a CW affiliate)
Another good thing about the CBSpirit season was that I have yet to meet an unkind person who was born during this season. This season ran from about Sept 1987 - Aug 1988 am I right? I was born during the "This is CBS" season (1992-1993)... that was a boring campaign. CBSpirit has so much pizzazz. Probably one of my favorite network promotion campaigns of all time. The Sunday Night-pairing of 60 Minutes and Murder She Wrote became a Force for CBS on a Rather Forgettable 1987-88 Season for them with Jake and the Fatman, Wiseguy and 48 Hours giving a Second Season.
Big 13. Oh Yes! WTVT-TV Tampa-St. Petersburg, FL. They couldn't use "spirit" in the slogan, since rival then known as WXFL-TV (now back as WFLA-TV) was using it for their Spirit of Tampa Bay local campaign.
this was good I saw Snoopy Charlie Brown and the Peanuts gang which I watched and still do on ABC..on my list of liked videos I have the two versions of the local theme KENS TV Spirit from the San Antonio CBS affiliate KENS 5 in San Antonio cool huh???!!!..I from San Antonio..I also saw the late William Conrad and Jerry Orbach who I liked RIP fellas
they were all the canceled before the promo was shown (1987), around that time CBS had shows like Cagney & Lacey, Magnum, P.I. (their farewell season), Dallas, Knots Landing, Houston Knights, The Equalizer, Newhart, Murder, She Wrote, etc.
