Here is part one of a series of commercials that aired alongside the CBS mini-series 'George Washington" on April 10th, 1984. Recorded from KELO-TV in Sioux Falls, SD.
This mini-series was sponsored as a whole by General Motors, and as a result, nearly all the commercials are for cars and other auto-related enterprises. It's still a worthwhile look into how American auto companies advertised in the 1980s.
Part one includes the following:
-CBS Special Presentation Bumper
-Scenes from George Washington Part 1
-GM Intro Sponsor Tag
-Building a Car Part 3
-General Motors Insurance
-Buick Electra
-Promo for "The Dukes of Hazzard" and "Dallas" and "Falcom Crest"
-Promo for "Airwolf" and "Mike Hammer"
-General Buick Ad
-Buick Century
-GMC "A Truck You Can Live With"
-Buick History
-Buick Electra
-GMC Jimmy

This was such a good time to be alive for so many reasons, not the least of which being the new domestic cars being introduced at the time. Back in the early 2000's I purchased a used 1988 Buick Electra Park Avenue with 112k miles on the clock. Paid $1300 for it, and the car ran for years without a single complaint. I finally traded it in for a different car, and later I met its next owner who pushed it past 300k miles and told me it had been a fantastic car for him. Can't say as much for the Cadillac Sedan de Ville of the same era, but the Park Avenues and Regency Broughams were absolutely bulletproof luxury you could buy cheap.

I love those cool GM commercials and also love the Buick ads as well. I love many 80s GM cars so it's amazing too see what GM did back in the 80s when they use to make nicer cars.

you must be young? The 80's as a whole were bad for all manufacturers due to emissions controls and the fuel efficiency fights. The cars were under powered, smogged down and fairly vanilla. The 90's finally saw some major improvements almost back to the "muscle car" era of the 60's and 70's.

Yep, I wasn't alive in 1984, and I acquired copies of this recording from a friend. Even so, it's still interesting to see how they advertised their vehicles in this era, since car companies don't advertise like this anymore, especially sponsoring an entire special program event.
