Well David, no matter how hard SME tries to scrub this presentation, you have certainly gone above and beyond and we thank you for that. We still have the radio coverage and other networks you provided within you site. Surprising after 60 years that folks are trying to make history disappear, but that is the world we live in. But no matter, you have made a very significant contribution. Thanks.
Thank you, David. I've watched this before, and I'm still fascinated by the broadcasters and news people who were working that day. Not sure how many times I've watched all the "as it happened" segments you've put up, but I sure do appreciate your efforts, sir.
I'm on dvp...feels like yesterday. This was top notch coverage. Let's remember Dan for all the great reporting he's given us. I forgive him for that bs a few years ago. Great narrator 😊
They had to haul the video camera to the news room warm it up for 20 minutes before they could get on the physical air hence Walter going into the radio booth and using a bulletin slate
@@asherbearboy I too was almost 7 and I was home sick and saw the first NBC bulletin. I told my mother and she didn't believe me. We sat together and watched the coverage all afternoon. Very fixed in my memory.
Walter Cronkite was called "The most. Trusted man in America ". His handling of the news of JFK's death is one of the most memorable moments in the history of broadcasting.
12:30 This episode of Route 66 scheduled to air the evening of Friday, November 22nd, was pre-empted by CBS’ continuing news coverage of JFK’s assassination. The S4E9 episode, titled “A Cage In Search of a Bird”, would air one week later on November 29th. The “pretty girl” taking part in this mountain adventure would be none other than Stefanie Powers of HART TO HART fame.
No. This is exactly the same "CBS Part 1" video that I've uploaded to this channel in previous years. I merely had a burst of courage descend upon me here in late November of 2023 and decided to re-upload the Part 1 video yet again. How long it will last before it gets axed by the Copyright Police is anyone's guess. It's already been blocked in Italy, China, and some other countries on the usual bogus (?) claim by SME [Sony Music Entertainment], a company that I cannot conceive of having any possible official "copyright" connection to this 1963 broadcast. SME's claim is limited to just 40 seconds of Walter Cronkite's initial bulletin at 1:40 PM EST. I could be wrong I suppose, but I'd bet the farm it's a totally bogus claim.
59:35 He just inadvertently mentioned the ONE thing that people overlook when they say the bullet trajectory couldn't have hit JFK and JC as claimed. They always forget JFK was higher and also a little more inward in his seat than JC.
I removed most of my CBS stuff from RU-vid in Dec. of 2022 because I got word that CBS Inc. was on the rampage and deleting a lot of their stuff from RU-vid. So I deleted them myself to avoid the copyright strikes.
I was 9 when this happened and watched it all on TV. We were living in Penna.at the time and that memory of that day has stayed with me all these years and I'm still angry over it.
I did some acting on As The World Turns in the '80s and did scenes with Don Hastings (Bob Hughes) and I remember the late Helen Wagner (his mom). Amazingly, l was on the set the morning the Challenger exploded and CBS News was in the same building, the CBS Broadcast Center on W.57th. Dan Rather was the anchor at that point. Also, the soap's episodes were being taped by then and not live, as it aired in 1963. I, too, would like to see the remainder of the Nov. 22nd episode.
And then again, since the show was going out live, the episode was most likely halted and not acted to completion. I've always marvelled at how the ".. World Turns" cast somehow soldiered on and professionally finished the taping of the episode the day of the Challenger tragedy, even though we were shaken by the news.
Really interesting to see the video from the trade mart then listen to Gordon McClendon’s radio report on KLIF calling the room “exploding in pandemonium”.
They also reported a SS agent was shot, and that the shots came from the overpass facing Dealey Plaza. It was breaking news at a time when that really wasn't a thing and the structures we have in place now to deal with breaking news didn't exist yet. Everyone was flying by the seat of their pants, reporting anything that came over the teletype, verified or otherwise.
