Morning! CCM AXIS vs Lefevre 20.1. I've seen both in person. If the pandemic didn't happen I'd likely be posting a video today reviewing my CCM AXIS set but that's not the case. I also have a custom set of Lefevre 20.1 (pad, glove, blocker) that was about to be finished before the shutdown. Like everybody else I'm hoping for these times to end but I CANNOT wait to go back to Montreal to pickup my 20.1 set! Final video from the road trip goes up on Wednesday working with my goalie coach from Minneapolis. Hope to see you Wednesday for the next one! - Trav
So.. You are getting a set of both CCM and Lefevre? Damn man, lucky guy! I thought you would maybe stick with Warrior and the G5's .. Can't wait to see the new gear! I'm gonna be looking for a glove and maybe skates this summer.. Always used a Vaughn glove but open to change if it feels good.. Any recommendations for an old beer leaguer? 😅 Thanks bud, another great video
Question for a future Q&A: The Lefevre pad (20.1, I think) comes in at 4.7lbs. How do you feel that compares to the Warrior G4 in terms of weight, and what about the G5? Doesn't have to be the actual weight, but your personal feel of how they compare in your hands. Thanks, stay safe and wash your hands.
Trav ur legit my favourite person to watch when I get back home bro I'm a AAA goalie and wouldn't be here without you I just rlly want to thank you on that
I've been waiting for the CCM customizer to drop on the AXIS line....I'm looking at replacing my EF3's with the new AXIS, just can't wait to see the options available.
Lefevre is making some beautiful gear. The price point though, is high. Which leads me to believe they are planning on paying the NHL's fee to get on the ice with branded gear. It looks great though. I wonder if they will have a 2 piece cuff as an option on the gloves.
@@HedgeFun35 that's lower than what I was told. Is that for stock sizing? Maybe someone went full custom. Thanks for the heads up, that's actually pretty reasonable
I got a custom AXIS set coming, first ever custom set but I have some reasoning on why I choose it. I’ve worn Lefevre CCMs my entire time playing, I messed around one day and tried a pair of Bauer 1S, and honestly loved the seal to the ice and rebound control, I ended up buying a pair of Eflex 3s and still using them right now, but that desire for a stiff good sealing pad never left my mind. So I saw the axis line, and pulled the trigger, CCM durability and a Bauer-ish design. Count me in.
Whoa! More Roy stories!! I use to have all his specs years ago during the 90s when I was in kohos, but since then I dont. Wish someone out there had them.
Good morning Trav and everybody else! Have a great week! Stay safe out there friends. That new Axis blocker is way better than their old design. Why people couldn’t figure out that a centered hand on board setup was better (Vaughn aside...) bewilders me.... I REALLY like the look of that new Axis mask too, even though I’ve been a Bauer/Itech guy forever I’ve done some COVID modelling, and for any of you in Ontario like me, this COULD all be over VERY soon.
@@patrickokeefe7943 Right? Here's hoping we're all in the same boat when it comes to turning the tide! Our recovery and active case trend-lines are about to cross over, I'm excited about it for sure. Stay safe!
I think Lefevre is going to be the next thing. What's cool also is that their factory is near where I live so it's going to be easy to see the equipment "live" right there and get the right mesurements. Trav if you get some ice time around Montréal when you get back around, let me know, I will come get a few photos in action with that new gear ;)
Lefevre will be back to the glory days . Like the late 90s early 2000s with Koho lines. Still have my set from when I played. Unbeatable quality and attention to detail. Truly crafted for the goaltender
not going to lie, skipped right to the lefevre stuff, looked amazing and definitely an option for my next pad. Nice to see the factory, the people and it all being made in Canada. Looks like they stand behind their product! Thanks for the insight.
Given that the companies are now split, what have you heard in terms of the pros picking between these two brands? Are they splitting 50/50 or is there a favored brand amongst the players?
What are the custom options for the lefevre pads? By the way great Vid 👍 I might be getting new pads after the outbreak so I'm doing my homework on gear
@Raven Royale If you look at all the older Koho and CCM pro gear, it will have a patch saying 'by LeFevre' on it. They relied on LeFevre, or EGB, Équipements de Gardien de But, for goalie equipment design, much like Warrior relies on Pete Smith for goalie equipment design, who they bought out and hired. CCM is going to have to buy out a boutique goalie gear manufacturer, like Battram, Kenesky or Passau, if they want to stay cutting edge.
my son is moving on from his Premier. He wanted the Premier 2 but no more 35's. He tried on the Axis, the Extreme 4's and the Bauer 2X Pro. He was surprised at the feel of the Bauer. He seems to be on the fence. Obviously no demoing happening now although he did demo the Extreme pads before the shutdown.. Any suggestions?
God I love goalie gear. Very exciting to see those gloves, blockers, and pads inside the Lefebvre factory. And I’m a Vaughn gear goalie. Nice job Trav.
They were a brand in the 80s and then got into a contract with Koho which was purchased by Reebok, then Reebok was purchased by CCM. So they have been manufacturing pro goalie gear under Koho/Reebok/CCM for 25 years (you could see "Powered by Lefevre" sewed on Koho/Reebok/CCM gear). On January 1st, 2020, their contract with CCM ended and both companies decided to go their own ways.
Interesting that at 6:05, the glove has the name Lefebvre screened on it, when the company name is Lefevre... Also the pads at 7:03... Did I miss something?
The company original name was Lefebvre (which is the family's actual last name), but it was then renamed to Lefevre (without the "b") to be able to enlarge the logo on their products. It is also easier to pronounce for non french speakers. Their L87 line (retro) uses their old brand name.
Lefevre has the following Reskinned P2 = 4.1 Reskinned Eflex 4 = 12.1 Reskinned Retro Flex = L87 The L20.1 is the brand new product for this year. Nothing to do with CCM. It's what I ordered. The other 3 are for everybody that wants the old CCM
@@trav4oilers I have to disagree on that. Because Warrior doesn't want to pay the NHL licensing fees on their pads, glove/blocker/, chesty and pants, they keep their prices down even on their pro line of equipment. For goalies on a tighter budget, that's great to have as a choice and not have the bigger names push the customer around in terms of price. Warrior is a pretty good pad, despite some saying you can't slide as well on the ice like some other brands. That is something that doesn't bother me much. My only gripe with Warrior is the stock rise above the knee being a bit high(I'm more old school, while incorporating the newer technology in goalie equipment).
My son tried the new axis. He liked them but wants the extremes. He is coming off of the Premier 1. Anything new will be an improvement as his pads are quite heavy.
Something about that Lefevre design I’ve tried other brands but I keep coming back, everyone makes good stuff right now, but with their gear I don’t ever think about it, I just play hockey. They’re the best for me
I use Bauer like Vaughn but overpriced and CCM look nice but I'm not a professional goalie so use what's comfortable for your needs the question play good not just look good lol
I wear P2's but the Axis pad hasn't really interested me yet. Definitely not a fan of the look. I look forward to your thoughts on the Lefebvre pads. Made in Canada is appealing. Stay safe.
Not to nitpick, and I'm sure you'll post a full review, but a lot of this looks like stuff other manufacturers have been doing for years. The inside of the mask looks like my Bauer NME 9. I've never actually worn CCM/Reebok pads though. Way more excited for the warrior G5's, probably getting a full custom set of those, a lot due to your interview and use (but I actually really like their boot/toe system)
The review on the axis wasn't as detailed as i expected, as if the set didn't have that much new features, the helmet look good tho but i'm concerned about the liquid parts, will it destroy like the pump on old reebok skates?
For example the vid you did on the g5 was showing the gear much better and the guy was explaining it much better, this on the axis is as if he doesn't even know what he sells
Raven Royale nah, axis are a steamy pile of Chinese made horse shit. I work at a hockey shop and all CCM gear just feels like cheap garbage. Leferve all the way
I agree with Carter. It seems as though CCM just kicked out Lefevre and took there designs but aren’t innovating at all from the previous designs. Plus now it will all be manufactured overseas. I think CCM goalie gear will suffer quite a bit but Lefevre will flourish and innovate, since they were the brains behind everything from the beginning anyway.
Morning Trav! Coffee in hand and your vid makes it a great morning. The padding looked pretty sharp. Hope your Easter was great! RIP Colby Cave Never forgotten 12/26/94-5/11/20
You ain't wrong, sad thing is they wanna defend it. Hey new sweden pro hockey vlogs start October 2nd! Hope to see you then. New ones every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 9am eastern bro
Did your choice to switch to Lefebvre have anything to do with the fact they are entirely made in Canada? They are basically ccm's because they built and designed for ccm which you had no interest in before... I know, it's a bit of an odd question
I absolutely hate the axis graphic. It looks like they were trying too hard to make it modern, and it ended up being too busy. Keep it sweet and simple.
Warrior innovated a good portion of features on both companies(CCM's and Lefevre) pads. Unfortunately, everyone copies everyone in the goalie equipment industry. I have Warrior myself, but if I had a choice, I would take Lefevre over CCM.
Are you thinking of the new Bauer Ultrasonic, with its knee block formed as a single piece with the face of the pad? The CCM rep seemed intent on talking about how similar the Axis is to the Premier.
The iphone and the Samsung tv looking really cheap too. You should buy Blackberry made in Canada...see the trend? I dare you to switch. Makes no difference where its made.
