Bertie says: "If you are stuck in a rut, hit the books, put in the hours and you will receive the rewards!" and "You cannot go and work for someone 8 hours a day and then go home and not work on your own dreams!"
Social media is very powerful. Use it to boost your career and promote yourself! Getting a CCNA changed Bertie's life. You can do the same!

CCNA has truly changed my life. I went from an IT Sr. Specialist in a little well-known Japanese corporate company to an employee for a Fortune 500 company as a NOC Engineer in as little as 5 months, doubling to tripling my salary. Definitely worth a good look into if you're in the IT industry.

Dave, another great story of perseverance and success that motivates the rest of us who have embarked on this journey. I just obtained my CCNA a week ago and nearly everything your guest mentioned resonated with me. The path to CCNA was a lot of donkey work and long hours... But passing the exam in the end was very gratifying. I also want you to know that all the wonderful material you posted was instrumental in my success. I am off on my next endeavor - ENCOR. All the best!

You're the best Networks guy/ mentor/ motivator/ tutor out there David. I am passionate in Networks and Network Security. I found out about you through your GNS3 tutorials which GREATLY helped me develop my Master Thesis prototype during my MS in Cybersecurity. I'd like to personally thank you for ALL that you do to encourage young folks like us trying to enter the world of networking workforce. Love you David. Keep doing the great, humble work that you do for us :D

David and Bertie Thanks for this motivational vidio. I am from Netherlands, doing onsite support services job in IT. As Bertie said even you have half an hour lock your room door switch off your mobile forget your friends, same like m doing now for my Comptia Network+. Having a graduation degree in accounts i ,ve switched my career in IT. During watching this vidio i was thinking that David is live with me. After couple of years this will be same story of mine when david will interview me" today we are cisco live with CCIE Noman" from Netherlands. David you are stil wishlisted in Udemy for my CCNA. After getting cert of N+ i shall start that. Love your vidios. Respect from Netherlands.

All, I took my CCNA exam in 2005 (back in those days there were no ICND1 and ICND2) and got a decent job as a Junior Network Engineer and got promoted as Network Engineer within a year. After 3 years my career path has changed because of the global economical crysis. I really loved networking and I still do so I decided to get back on track. But the problem is I will turn 34 this year and obviously I have to start from the beginning, I might even consider doing Network+ at first place, because I haven't worked in the IT field for 8 years. My plan would be to get Network+, CCNET, CCNA R&S, CCNA Cyber Ops in 2-3 years by only self-studying and get a decent job along the way. Watching people like David Bombal, Kevin Wallace and NetworkChuck is a very big help but I am still not sure if I am not too old for getting back to IT and if my 3 years plan can actually work. Any advice? Ty

+1 for asking at the CCNA subreddit. You're not too old if you ask me. It's all about drive and mindset. Employers will be impressed if they see you're earning back-to-back certifications. It will translate your drive and you'll likely be respected for it.

Well done... I got mine in 2005 was the only one in the class to pass get all 4 john chambers letters and pass the intro and icnd exams - soon as I did that I expanded my home lab with layer 3 switches and started studying for the CCNP, sat the BSCI, and applied for hundreds of jobs but never managed to get a job that would make use of all that hard work, instead my Microsoft & Comptia Certs landed me a job with a small IT management company that also dealt with large format printers - which was a bit of a mickey mouse operation that didnt have any documentation for any of the sites not even a baseline - they just relied on a management console - after a few years my eyesight started to go... for me I didnt land the cisco job I wanted - maybe my age was against me - but it was fun learning despite and not getting the right job for several years I kept tinkering with the lab and hoping, but now because the way my eye sight is there is no way I can sit and pass an exam in the time they expect, I had to have injections in my eyes over the course of a few years and I can see enough out of one eye to read but not at speed

I passed my CCNA last November but still unemployed. It's really hard for me to get a job even I have a degree in Computer Engineering, I went to a series of job rejections since I started applying. Employers are looking for fresh graduate with 10++ years of experience. This world is crazy.

I am 47 years old and my education is not IT or any of network science. From computers all I know is just installing Windows, changing components as a SS Disk, RAM, Processor, graphic card... etc. I don`t know will I have succeed and learned CCNA and then find a job as a network admin. because the employers want to hire only young people. Before 10 months I started with the course from David Bombal and I still feel like a beginner. I am not sure do I need to proceed and how much time will need to me to become CCNA and the most important will i become a network administrator. But when I remember on one video from David who said: I was working in trade in the past and I ask from my employer to make me free one day of the week to go on course fof Networking and he had to work more hours to make up for the lost hours from the day off, it encourages me a lot. :)

Great interview. Bertie sounds like a great guy! This Cisco Live series have been great. Is there some more? We are going to be waiting for a season 2 of this kind of events. Is there any other vendor that you like or are as passionate about? Cisco live's seem to be among the top 5 technology events by vendors are there any other events you've been that you would recommend as 1 of thing to do before turning 50 lol not to say a 100

Same boat as myself. My greatest mistake was being in telecoms without getting fully involved in the IT world. I got my CCNA in 2007 and didn't upgrade again. Now i have bounced back. I will renew my CCNA security and then CCNP security. I also have plans to certify in Cloud Tech. We can do it bro

No to social media. Of a company requires me to have LinkedIn, no thank you. I'm trying to be as prove as possible and the less people can find me the better. You can still apply for jobs all the same and get hired if you're not a fan idiot and have character and charisma.
