Check our their retirement plan or PERS. What little investment they put in and how MUCH their teacher retirement is. NV is like 40 billion taxpayer underfunded because they pay so much out in retirement.
@@Preservestlandry you are on point. All this issue is for $$$ they don't want to pay to qualified people. I work in a school and even parents are allowed to " volunteer " to work as subs. Insane!!! I hold a college degree and the kitchen aid who watches kids during lunch make the same as me per hr. Of course I'm leaving the school system very soon.
Exactly 💯% right! They don't want to pay just like schools in my state. They all want brand new, cheap teachers. They also want young teachers because principals don't want to supervise people older than themselves. There is NO teacher shortage. The people hiring simply want CHEAP teachers. 😔
One solution to the problem: Any unfilled teaching positions at the start of the school year will be filled by administrators. No need for an army of administrators if there are significantly less teachers to manage.
Admins are worthless and a direct reason that US education has been complete shot over the last 20 years. Less teacher support and more bureaucratic bullshit.
Two reasons to reject qualified teachers: 1.) They have no money, and don't want to pay for education. 2.) They have shady practices and don't want any qualified individuals to blow the whistle. (They need to be investigated)
Discrimination is everywhere in schools: age, sex, orientation(all orientations), race (all races depending on region), and most especially highly successful and high energy people. You can never out shine the person interviewing you, and in education, that wipes out most people.
@@Richard-vq7ud "You can never out shine the person interviewing you, and in education, that wipes out most people." You are soooo right. Spot on. Usually people who go into management have a need to be seen, approved of and admired by others-- they do not take kindly to others who naturally outshine them.
I'm a teacher for a CCSD school having switched into education from another career. It is appalling how CCSD operates as a whole. Here's the dad truth: I would move to another state before I'd allow my own kid to become a student at a CCSD school. The only way it would could happen is through a magnet program. It is embarrassing how transparently corrupt and incompetent the higher leadership is within this huge district.
The magnet programs aren't any better. They'll just stop teaching certain classes or just have 1 period of that class that 6 periods worth of students need. Then they'll say that if you want your magnet diploma, you have to pay to take the class or they will drop you out of the magnet program. And then there are certain vice principals that will change attendance records to get kids expelled after they send you 3 letters that your kid isn't in school( when they actually are) that are ALL DATED AND SENT ON THE SAME DAY!!!!!
These 3 people are obviously very qualified and passionate about teaching. Outrageous that they were blown off. This lady wasn't hired due to experience? ALL NEW TEACHERS don't have classroom experience, except for the practicum, which she had.
All new teachers have recently, within the last year, been in a classroom doing student teaching. That lady is in for a hard wake-up when she realizes her masters will get her paid the same as a recent college grad so she need to suck up her entitlement attitude and just sub for a while like they asked.
@@joshualaroche2669 eh the world is changing. If the administration doesn’t see her potential, it’s on them. This isn’t just a teaching issue either, I have a math education degree with nearly a 4.0 in college and I’ve been turned down for part time restaurant positions because “I wasn’t the right fit.” Too many people in hiring positions with a sick sense of power and no empathy in my opinion.
The actual problem is this chick feels entitled for a job she has no real experience in. Her degree means absolutely nothing if she’s not in a leadership role (admin, specialist). That’s not the districts fault that hers.
@@joshualaroche2669 as someone else pointed out, the lady with the masters and teaching credentials also had to do in class practicum like undergrads who get their credentials in teaching. So why doss she have to suck it up and others undergrads don't. The way I see it the older lady probably has more life experience and could have a better understanding of how to manage, support parents through their students education.
Nevada Ranks 49th in education attainment in the country. Nevada Ranks 46th in best school systems and is last to share in doctorate degrees. So in the end Nevada must take tremendous pleasure in constantly turning out *poorly* educated students and must want to stay just slightly above the ranking of scraping the bottom of the barrel. This is why researching *before* casting your ballot for judges and even dog catcher is important.
This is also happening in California Unified School Districts/ Adult Schools. Instead young people without college degrees are being hired to teach over qualified retired teachers with College degrees & Masters degrees with teaching experiences. Their reason they say they want recent teaching experience with recent teaching references within the past 1-3 years. We feel there is an age discrimination in the schools.
There are qualified people out here wanting to help and CCSD is failing their schools and communities by not being transparent. This is unacceptable. There needs to be an external audit of CCSD and it's procedures, something is severely broken in this school district.
My friend is a teacher in CA and was told she’s not being re-elected bc of “numbers” but performed highly until having to take a week 1/2 off due to covid. This isn’t just a hiring issue, it’s a retention issue. Schools are using covid as a way to terminate good teachers!
They don't want to pay! Teachers have to file a grant just to get copy paper for the kids to use in class. Imagine hiring a qualified person. That would cost CCSD more money! I guess we all know education isn't a priority 🤷🏽♀️
I’m a bus driver of 10 years having driven in several states and the folks that run transportation are extremely incompetent. And really could careless if your children ever made it to school.
@@ez1913 You’ve commented this quite a few times. No one cares for your transphobia. Including us CCSD teachers. By the way, it is evident that you need a teacher in your life.
@@ladariussmith1299 Oh, do you need a puppy and a gender confused cry closet? Worst district in the nation. YOU, are the problem. How many students have you touched inappropriately? Perhaps we should take this as an admission and call the sheriff to talk to some of your students about abuse. I bet you're a predator too. LMAO We've had enough of your straight-phobia. Aren't you due for another booster shot?
@@Maplebear1203 I think you might be on to something here. CCSD only hires stupid folks because they're cheaper. 🤔 -see above post from pedo band teacher.
But they are willing to accept people with high school diploma….huh? I see im going to have to either help my daughter pay for my grandkids to go to school just to get a good education or help her move. Sad
I'm also sensing perpetual emergency and victimhood. If they're always in an emergency they can't be held to a standard, people have to bend to their will, and they can provide cruddy service. The same poor me attitude that individuals can degenerate to can also be organizational behavior.
This has been a problem even before the pandemic. Not limited to already certified teachers, also teachers and engineers fresh out of college. Almost gave up for the mixed reasons.
It’s apparent there is a concern these candidates are over qualified for these positions. Based on their qualifications and the insight they hold it clearly threatens the district-
Similar situation happened to me. I knew I was moving to Asheville, NC, 10 months before the start of next school year. I applied to two open positions at different schools for my concentration in education. I never received any word back and eventually, I emailed them to check on my status, but received no response. Even with the positions still available. Fast forward to August, the positions are available and when HR did call me, all they said that was available were substitute teaching positions. (Pre covid and I wasn't interested in part time) About a month later, I was at a minor league baseball game in town, ran into a first grade teacher at one of the city schools and said that they had an open position for my concentration. The very next day I had an interview and the following Monday I started working. What this came down to was mismanagement and poorly run administrative offices for the district. It's a common theme, not only here, but all over the country. I saw another comment on this thread mentioning how the administration staff should start filling in classroom positions. That's an excellent idea and when they proposed the same thing during covid here in Asheville, none of them showed up. I left education this past year after teaching for eight years. I'm 33 years old, very active, enjoy teaching elementary School students for the positive and impressionable influence I carry, and it's a shame that education still hasn't gotten it right. They lost an asset in me and many more well qualified individuals that exceed my credentials.
I nearly did the same thing a few years ago myself. I have since been teaching at a catholic school although I am not catholic. I would say dont give up on teaching try a different environment. Honestly I am 33 as well and i have taught/worked in schools for almost 10 years. 5 of those years were at catholic school and the rest were at public schools. Two of the public schools I taught at were the worst environments I have ever been on and have honestly left me with lasting anxiety and PTSD. The catholic schools I have worked for are a totally different world where teachers are supported and not micromanaged. I hope that whatever you decide to do brings you more joy in the future.
I won't have my teaching license until I turn 50 if everything goes right. Reading and watching stories such as this make me reconsider further pursuing this career. As a historical reenactor I enjoyed teaching on the weekends and feel it would be a wonderful use of my personality and talent to be a full-time school teacher. It seems the closer I get to fulfilling the requirements the more my anxiety grows.
As a resident of Vegas since 1963, I can say: CCSD has been "dirty" for a long time. If you want a job with them you had better have a friend in the union.
I'm sensing perpetual emergency and victimhood. If they're in an emergency they can't be held to a standard, people have to bend to their will, and they can provide cruddy service. The same poor me attitude that individuals can degenerate to can also be organizational behavior.
A master's could hurt you because they have to pay you more. Don't get a master's until you're employed. They don't want to pay for a person with a master's, especially without actual teaching experience.
In California, they go back and forth on this. Rules are brocken all the time. You get the job if you know someone really well from the district or school. Sometimes they will even take you without a license ( credential). It's corrupt everywhere.
@@glimmeringsea5105 I can tell from how you are wording this that you are some kind of disgruntled applicant. It's not called a "license," at least in California, it's called a credential. Yes, if there are NO qualified applicants, they can hire the MOST qualified, but that becomes public knowledge, and districts don't risk their accreditation to hire their non-qualified buddy over someone that's qualified, especially when it would be so easy to prove what they did. I think you just got butt-hurt.
@@glimmeringsea5105 besides, your comment is not even a reply as there is nothing to go "back and forth" about because there is NO district that doesn't pay more for someone with a master's. I think you probably weren't hired because of your poor attitude.
I'd guess it's age discrimination. That's been my experience. They don't call it that, of course, they just say things like "we'd like someone with new ideas."
My friend's daughter got kicked out of middle school for two days for writing a sexually explicit letter with another boy. The school told the mother that they were not going to allow her to read what her own thirteen-year-old daughter had written, and that they wouldn't further discuss why they kicked her daughter out of school for 2 days.
The school district isn't going to tell rejected applicants why they were rejected because they don't want to be exposed to being sued for discrimination.
I lost my respect to CCSD as a school district. I was hired to teach math at a high school but the hr said no to me being a teacher despite having a provisional license to teach secondary math. They asked me to be a long-term substitute. I did that for a year but after interviewing several times for a teacher position and got no answers to all of them, I say that I'm through trying to be a teacher at CCSD. I just lost my respect to CCSD as a whole. I'll never send my kids to a CCSD affiliated school. I'd rather homeschool them first. Since I live near UNLV, the middle school nearby is terrible with students that are insubordinate.
Ridiculous. We need math teachers. It is so unfortunate. Many of these districts are likely going to consider a new money saving model: sit the kids in front of screens and give them a pre-recorded canned curriculum. No social skills will be considered, let alone given, to these kids. :-(
They legally will never tell you why they didn’t hire a person. Can you imagine the lawsuits?! 🙄 “We didn’t hire you because you’re old.” But I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s the reason. I was displaced for almost 3 years and I know for fact that I was discriminated against bc of my seniority/age when I was looking for a permanent school. 😡 School districts are getting exactly what they deserve. No wonder no one in their right mind would go into teaching! 😂🤡
Those parents with kids in that district need to take their kids out and the school will consider teachers that are qualified when the school is getting closed down for no funding.
Sounds like they are “cherry picking” through the applicants that will “fit they’re agenda”. You either higher people that are qualified and can fill the spots, or stop complaining about not having people in the empty positions.
CCSD is paying pennies...and they are shocked the have a staffing shortage? no one who is a qualified teacher would ever step foot on one of those campuses.
Unfortunately, it seems to be this way across the board. I live in Colorado and I have bachelors degrees in elementary education and early childhood education with an endorsement in teaching English as a second language. I also have my masters in Elementary Education. I applied to countless jobs last year and this year and each time, I’ve gotten the same canned response as the applicants in this video.
Terrible HR personnel. Fire everybody. His age, military background and master's degree are working against him. They don't want to pay qualified people, period. Garbage school district.
It’s common for school districts (for some reason, low paying school districts, especially) to suggest that teachers without recent experience take on long term sub positions. It’s not realistic for people who aren’t fresh out of college, since these positions usually come with no benefits. The issue with CCSD is that applicants don’t really have the option to apply to neighboring districts the way people do in most other urban or suburban school districts. Clark County is surrounded by…basically nothing. If you can’t get a teaching job in Clark County, where do you go?
I was a brand new teacher for CCSD in 2004. I was bullied by the principal after I got my 1st contract and taught 3rd grade. At least 6 other veteran teachers from states across the country worked at my school. They felt bullied and harassed as well. We ALL quit. This is a shady district. I moved back to my home state after this horrible experience.
@@Kingmon01 I became a guest teacher back home in California for 15 years until covid shutdown. I had retirement paid in, took it, and haven't gone back. I really loved subbing! I could use the teaching skills I learned In college and became pretty good at class management. I was often requested for difficult classes, I didn't put up with kids nonsense.
Workplace bullying point blank. Administrator and teacher clicks supporting those that fit in and ostracizing those that don’t. They want the good ol boy/ mean girl system to continue. They don’t have to fear any whistleblowing or exposure in the schools. They want “impressionable” teachers they can keep in check and let go after a year or two of being exposed internally to the system.
This is very interesting because as of May 2022, there are several communities in several states that are now allowing people with a high school diploma to substitute teach.
I hope teachers get paid well. My friend feels that North Carolina is paying their teachers way below than other states. I hope the government will review the educators’ compensations.
@@ronecandle8128 Teachers don't get paid well. It's easy to research since teacher salary is open for everyone to see, even by state. Mississippi is the lowest paid ($45,457) followed by West Virginia ($47, 826). North Carolina's average salary is ($54,392)
Sounds corrupt and the lack of transparency is telling. Investigate schools in Tennessee as well. Yet they treat teachers like crap and discrimination reigns in suttle and full blown ways. Education on the local level sucks! Southern states are the worst and need to b taken over by the federal govt.
I just met this situation 😢. I am a substitute teacher at the CCSD high school now. I just got my teacher’s license and applied for licensed teacher jobs. CCSD Human Resources removed all my applications 😢. I called and he didn’t answer any questions. He said I can’t apply any CCSD schools jobs. He hung up. I called second time. He said go to apply charter schools jobs. I have two Masters degrees but CCSD doesn’t let me teach. I worked hard to passed the tests and took 439 hours online classes to get my license. 😢
They don't want hired teacher's with masters because they're not going to pay. I applied several times went to their ccsd job fairs. They pick and selected who they want. It's so many loophole it's ridiculous.
I was an LVMPD employee with an AAS in accounting and my student teaching away from being a teacher. I applied as a substitute about 15 years ago. They said I didn’t pass the background because an attorney I had worked for for 3 month almost 20 years prior didn’t respond…because I couldn’t find him! This is nothing new. My story is not unique.
This is happening everywhere! I am highly qualified and retired. But while the district had a music position listed for a whole year. They would not hire me! Its all excuses to give the money to other useless positions
Same thing in Baldwin county in Alabama. They whine there aren’t enough subs but make it extremely hard to apply to sub! They don’t even call qualified people with years of experience for interviews. Applied for over 100 positions I was qualified for and not one interview! They just want to whine!
Happened to me last year Finished my bachelors, finished my credential schooling, and I applied to CCSD, and got hired, all they told me to do was to complete the praxis exam within the first year of my hire (2 of them, which I completed 1). Got an email from CCSD that I was unable to and they dropped my application. Truly a nightmare situation..put me back a whole scholastic year.
They want young teachers. They don't want old teachers. But what they fail to understand young teachers are not going to stay in to teaching, it is too much for them. This is happening all over the United States. when they can't get the young teachers they will then import them from other countries. What they fail to understand American kids are raised different from other countries.
They want cheap and woke. Preferably no Master degree, recent bachelor's of woke was and not necessarily in education. This is happening in many parts of the country
Always get your teaching experience when you have a bachelor. After two years working , get your master degree. School don’t want to pay a lot of money to teachers who don’t have teaching experience.
I am a recent Unlv graduate with honors. I was unable to get my license. I was actually denied today I was denied from the district and I’ve been working in the district for nine years. No reason was given and when asked they said they can’t tell me, I was also told to apply as a sub
This isn't the only industry doing this. I get tons and tons of companies reaching out to hire but after going on interview after interview I don't get hired. I've never had to go on more than1 interview before getting hired for a job. I have the credentials and the experience. I'm in business and when I say the market looks open, that's exactly how it looks and how they act up until hiring time. So many businesses are saying they are got signs up and all. But nobody really is. I thought it was just me over reacting until I seen the teachers going through it. I seen the businesses become affected after the pandemic. With things lifted you'd think it would be different now, but NOPE.
And it’s interview after interview where these people have no interest in learning about you and your potential. They have their bullet point questions and agenda and if you make the wrong first impression, it’s over.
CCSD claimed they did not have any high school math teachers. I had a degree in math, a secondary math credential, years experience teaching algebra, geometry, algebra 2, precalculus (trigonometry), and calculus 1. California and Nevada had reciprocity. They were rude, but made it clear they go without teachers first. I worked for 30 years for other schools and districts, so evidently this is not new.
The school board members should have an audit. How many members do you have? How much did they receive and why? Why are the teachers not paid enough? Why are the teachers not teaching? How are they coming to assignments? Why are schools behind? Every school director needs to have assignments for all the teachers to comply with the curriculum. The dress code for teachers doesn't show boobs or legs. Kids are not sexual objects. Respect starts within. Governor, what happens to the marijuana money for the schools? I prefer that the teachers get pay for a stadium that nobody wants or needs. The teachers and students should have a safe environment.
I have never been told why I didn’t receive a position unless I already work for the place or company. But now I’m curious as I have applied for my state on multiple occasions and not once have I ever been considered but also there is a theory that they only hire friends and family.
