Love how law abiding TAX paying citizens can be put through hell for having guns CA doesnt like, yet you got gangsters and criminals with fully automatic weapons running around killing people.
unfortunately thats the reason yet it is ineffective. the working theory is that if there is less options available the less tools criminals have to use. when is the last time a robber used a 50 cal in cali? its a sound argument but the problem is that even those laws are ineffective. rifles are everywhere but criminals do crime with handguns way more. its very stupid :/
Here's one that is interesting, I remember reading about length of pull for brace equipped pistols needing to be less than 13.5 inches from the face of the trigger and that it's generally not good to use a traditional carbine buffer tube. (5 position etc) My memory on it is fuzzy because it was back when I was looking for a brace to buy but it was enough for me to take care enough not to go that route. Food for thought, obv people should research themselves but I'm interested in hearing if what I read is incorrect.
I haven't looked a ton into that because I'm waiting for the final ruling on braces which I believe is in December. But yes, there is a 13.5" LOP rule, or maybe proposed rule, looks like it is part of that point system they are trying to do. With a standard carbine length buffer tube and SB brace extended it's under 13.5"
My brand new AR15 from Camdon jammed on the first shot… After inspecting the rifle i found gouges in the barrel chamber causing failure to eject on every shot. From a brand new rifle… lets just say im taking my money else where.. Such a shame since it actually looks like a well built rifle.
great info video and to the point ....now, wouldn't be great if Kommiefornia would go to the same lenghts to prosecute criminals as they go after law abiding citizens wanting to exercise their 2A tights!!
What the man is saying is correct regarding bolt action repeaters on the roster. It is not illegal to swap the upper for a semi-auto version as long as you adhere to the AW laws in CA. However, what you would be doing is working around the law. It's basically a loop hole in the law currently, which I'm surprised hasn't been addressed by the DOJ. The clean way of building yourself a pistol in CA, is to purchase a lower receiver that is registered semi-auto. Just because the language doesn't incriminate you now doesn't mean it won't change later. This is CA after all.
So what you’re saying is…that if I purchase one of your CD15’s, have it built outside of Ca, (in AZ for example) with a new upper/barrel/gas system and making it a center fire, semi-auto, it would be completely legal AR Pistol to keep and own as long as I do not sell it? Just don’t build it in Ca, because that would be considered manufacturing an unsafe handgun in Ca?
So example, if I have a CA7 and and it is a single shot. Can I swap a semi upper and just put a jaggernaut take down pin and it is gonna be legal in California? Tnx'
That was my question too because at one point he said, "so I'm in Arizona and I go home" (with modified pistol) it was a little vague, was the home you were going to in Arizona or California lol ?
I know you aren't offering legal advice here, but in your interpretation of the CA laws you are discussing here, is a 'slanted' forward grip considered a second grip?
Can you remove the stick stock thing with something better? Or if you buy it, are you stuck with having something that can be protruding though a hole that doesn't see sunshine?
Been asked this one a lot. Here is all I can say. From the video review I watched, they basically said the fixed magazine inside the pistol grip made the second magazine, the one which feeds the rifle irrelevant, and you could use anything you want because it has the first fixed mag in the grip. I still would not be using anything over 10 rounds since it is still a fixed magazine gun. But how does it work on a pistol? Part of a pistol being an assault weapon is the fact the magazine goes somewhere outside the pistol grip. Now with this product, even though it is in the pistol grip, the gun still needs to take a magazine outside the grip to work. With the rifle they make it seem that the feeding magazine doesn't matter but having a magazine outside the grip is not an assault weapon feature on a rifle, just a pistol. So, if it can't magically make the magazine irrelevant on a pistol how does it make it irrelevant on a rifle? I'm not sure. I know I'm not using it.
I want this one. Saw it but also it’s a single shot. By single shot I mean you can’t load the magazine. You literally drop a round in the chamber and that’s how you use it
nice video.. is it illegal in California if just changing buffer stock to standard stock for this CA version, just like the stock on you AZ version. everything else stays same, just for look, Thank you
So if we want to put a gas system on our pistol - we would have to configure it out of state, and then bring it back into the state in that current configuration. correct?
So, okay I’ll cross into the state line Arizona and add a gas block. I’ll be bring it back to California. As long as I don’t sell it or loan it or give it away I am okay. But my question is, how in the world will the DOJ or ATF know that I went into Arizona to add a gas block or change my upper with a gas block?
I wana build a ar pistol but don’t know what parts to get, or know how to start and I’ve been doing research. I understand more now but I’m still confused
Can we remove your maglock system easily and install a different kind that we prefer? For instance the 33.3 style or even the armaglock system if one so chooses?
@@roughgearreview I have a machinist who makes 333 tactical system maglocks for me. And it allows to custom fit and shave down to allow the bolt to be locked back, receivers cracked with a kingpin, and the mag release to function. That in turn allows for malfunctions to be cleared like normal, by locking back the bolt, cracking the upper and dropping the mag. Its superior to many other systems out there.
@@roughgearreview I don’t think so. Because the action isn’t broken until the bolt is locked back. And when broken, you cannot release the bolt forward until the action is closed first. Does make it still compliant?
They wouldn't, that's the whole thing. They open the door to rail people later, "oh don't do it within the state" so you leave the state do it and come back and a cop or doj agent who knows this stuff goes oh your a resident of California so you must have done it in California and you have no way to prove you did it out of state boom your jailed. It's all a word play game so they can screw you over for doing it regardless
@@gunsfugitivessecurity8357 idk where you are from but we do thing differently in America. You are innocent until proven guilty, unless they caught me doing it in California, anything they say is only their guess. Stop sucking government’s dick
@@HongyiMC see the problem here is you don't know where I'm from, I am actually from California, the law of the land is innocent until proven guilty but the law of the state of California is guilty until proven innocent, this has been proven time and time again with firearms laws and arrests
@@HongyiMC don't have one don't want one 🤷 my full size ar does just fine, all I'm saying is someone is gonna do this and become the "test case" oh whether or not this is legal, just like the guy who had a freedom week magazine for his handgun and got charged and had to jump through hoops and deal with a bunch of crap because California likes to keep things vague so they can still try and get you arrested for weapons charges.
Don’t mean to be dumb but I live in Cali are you saying I can go to Arizona get a extended magazine and put it on my Glock 19 and keep it at home with no issues?
I wouldn’t risk it. Possession, importing and manufacturing anything over 10 is a crime in California. Read about freedom week, we had a 1 week window where we could do all of the above legally. Read about judge Benitez
@@seabee12333 yeah nah that’s what I know for the most part. But I think he said he’s allowed to have all the stuff on his AR because technically he made it in az not Cali so I thought it could carry over but thanks for the help and info!💯
@@FOURFTP so here in cali we have rosters and guns not on the roster are considered “unsafe” and because they submitted the gun to DOJ with factory trigger you can’t do any modifications what’s so ever like you do stippling or like cerakote because it doesn’t affect the way it fires but a trigger or trigger spring would change that and make it an unsafe handgun
@@FOURFTP and what I had asked was can I get a gas system added out of state and with no intent to sell or anything else he said in the video it’s perfectly legal and they it’s “that’s a bunch of baloney and a fast felony” but when I had asked turners employees they were saying it would be fine technically so not sure hahaha
@@TEGGY_CHINTO no wonder the guy from the range told me be careful when he saw my Gucci glock. I have a extended mag and a custom trigger with customs slide /rmr cut. Cause he thought my mag base was +5 which actually it’s a -0. Thn I seen other people say it’s okay to change parts. I hate CA it’s so confusing with there laws
@@TEGGY_CHINTO that’s what I wondering if we could add a gas tube. But I keep getting different answers and it’s hard not trying be a felon or get in any trouble cause I can’t afford to lose anything. But I was told If you put a semi auto upper onto a designated pistol lower you are creating an unregistered assault weapon, the same applies if you add a gas tube. It’s not legal. You can’t “featureless” a pistol. Fixed mag or mag lock would also classify as an assault weapon. The Juggernaut pistol has to stay as is to be legal. But how the video said it’s okay. Also I was told we could just buy a gas tube upper and just switch it out. But to not get caught with it on your gun as long as it’s not out together you are not breaking any law but the second you put it together it’s a unregistered AR
I don’t get why you would modify a Cali compliant AR pistol in AZ. Why not just drive to AZ, buy the regular version, and bring it back to Cali? Whatever the case, the question at this point is, if you’re caught with it, would a LEO classify it as a pistol or a semi-automatic rifle? If they mistake it for a rifle, then you would have hell on your hands because you should know that same penal code says that “(3) A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has an overall length of less than 30 inches. Is considered an assault weapon. And we all know that most LEOs spend too much time at the shooting range and not enough time studying the laws of their local jurisdiction. I can easily see you having a long legal battle on your hands if caught with that modified weapon here in Cali. My advice to people, if you bought it that way in Cali, keep it that way in Cali.
You can upgrade your glock, but I think you cannot change the trigger. I have a glock 19 that I turn it into a gucci glock change stuff like slide, barrel, trigger shoe only and not the trigger system.
@@Invisus_Letum yea I know it’s confusing. Wait what mods do you Plan on doing ? You know you could just order them and get parts shipped to your house. My buddy of mind build his n got every part shipped expect the upper and lower he got at his local FFL . There’s two ways you could set up your AR to be CA complaint . Fixed mag and feature less. Fixed mag will let you have a pistol grip and all those other goodies expect . That you can’t have future less In brief, AR-15 rifles in California must conform to these restrictions for semi-auto rifles that do not have a fixed magazine: AR BUILDS: They must have a total length of 30 inches or more, regardless of magazine type No pistol grip that protrudes “conspicuously” beneath the action No folding or telescoping stocks permitted/no thumb hole stocks No detachable magazine/fixed magazines cannot accept more than 10 rounds No grenade or flare launcher No flash suppressor No forward pistol grip No threaded barrel A complete and current list can be found here. For many of the guns below, they have a fixed magazine system limited to 10 rounds - 10 rounds is the limit regardless of what the magazine may look like - which allows those guns to retain some of the above features. So, if you are in California, the gun will be the “CA Compliant” variant. Now if you have a fixed mag
@@Invisus_Letum the video was wrong. The law is clear that the rifle he modified in AZ would be in violation if he bought it back to CA. He really should take this video down due to its inaccuracy.
you left out the first part about “manufacturers or causes to be manufactured…” the sentence is listing out items aka Oxford comma. A person in this state who manufactures or causes to be manufactured, imports into the state for sale, keeps for sale, offers or exposes for sale, gives, or lends an unsafe handgun shall be punished by imprisonment in a county jail not exceeding one year.
So basically if you take your firearm to another state and modify it youre good, but if you modify it in CA youre screwed? That'll be tough to explain to police lol
I'll buy one when I can buy it from Turners Outdoors. all someone needs to do is design one that complies with all the safety features. like, Mag Disconnect, Loaded Chamber indicator, microstamping for 2027, etc... Although it's an AR-15 Pistol. The components are compatible with the AR-15 Rifle. (I'm not sure). but In a possible court case, where the firearm is in question..... in the eyes of a jury; it could raise questions. like, you would have to prove you built it/had it built out of state, (you would need to keep receipts, maybe travel receipts, gas expenses, hotel expenses. etc...). also, you would have to prove you never loaned it to anyone (which is a harder thing to prove) and would probably result in the court wanting to go further into detail about your as a person, your character, they would want to determine if there is a chance of you letting someone borrow it. (Ie: do you have a past history where you broke the law? anything that might implicate intention, or even possibility, to disregard or break the law). they would also raise questions into topics like Mental Health, Your Social life, Friends, Coworkers. any past history could raise more questions. until the burden of proof is so high that there is too much risk to not conclude some type of Penal action.
This is my thoughts exactly. Even though you'd be following the law, it's a sticky situation. And if the an unfortunate circumstance came up, try explaining that to an officer that doesn't know the law very well.
Based on this video, and yes I know you are not a lawyer but, if I buy this camdon pull back system AR and slap on a MK18 complete upper on it with fixed 10rd magazine, is that okay to use in CA legally or no and again I know you’re not a lawyer.
most people say that should be legal as long as its fixmagged. Until someone gets arrested and goes to court, we dont know if its legal in the eyes of the CADOJ. I myself have the CA7 and converted it to fix mag and slapped a semi auto pistol upper on it. I personally feel ok having but im not a lawyer and this is not legal advice
What you need to be sure of is that the gun is not an assault weapon, so if you put a MK18 upper on this lower, because it's fixed magazine, it would not be an assault weapon according to California penal code.
Do you have any horror stories on forums or do you just not participate because it's a shit show. People are so quick to give up their own rights they will take a broad stance like thinking the Tac Con 3MR increases the rate of fire and fight to the death to uphold that belief.
I just stay off forums, years ago I used to engage on the Cal Guns forums but it was frustrating to get people to read laws. People always want something to read that tells them they can do something like "yes you can have a 30rd magazine in your possession" instead of how the law reads " high capacity magazines are not controlled". I'm sure some forums have great info, but most I used to read were just opinions.
@@roughgearreview agreed. It’s only got worse with time. “Show me a law that says it’s legal!” Cried the person who doesn’t know how the foundational basis of how laws work in this country. I don’t think our forefathers intended for us to have to ask government for permission on everything. Anyways I digress. Good to see another critically thinking person doing videos in cali.
