When I was much younger and totally in love with horses I had a huge wall picture that looked just like the tan and white horse that you videoed that was running and then stopped with its mane blowing in the breeze. Im watching this whole hike over again. I had gone up in the mountains on a camping outing for the month of Oct. here in 2022 but I contracted Covid. Only saw a few hikers and a few animals. Bummer. Not a fun time. At least the month was almost over. The only fun part of this whole thing is getting to watch all your hikes again. And loving everyone. Thanks and Blessings, Teri Hope
I'm so pleased to have found your channel! As a novice backpacker in my early 50s, I'm so inspired by you all. And as a southern Wyoming resident, let me be the first to thank you for calling them by their proper name, Pronghorn, rather than "antelope." I'm guessing the prairie chickens were either sharp-tailed grouse, or maybe a sage grouse? Looking forward to binge watching your previous videos and following your CDT journey. Well done crossing the basin!
Love your journey- And I found this great description of the Basin online. "A day here without almost-constant wind is like a summer day in the South bereft of stifling humidity-not likely."
Yay! Episode 2. I was just thinking about you ladies yesterday , hoping everything was going well and that there would be another video soon. 😊. Thank you for this. Can't wait to watch it with my morning coffee. 👍 ☕️
After all of the emptyness of the basin, watching the plane cruise overhead was surreal. Thanks for sharing this journey. Excited to see the Wind River Range (altho probably not nearly as thrilled as you must be)! Love and hugs!
Most videos I watch on 1.5 speed but never yours. I look forward to them and savor every moment like my favorite meal. Thank you for bringing us along!
I sure enjoyed sitting in the air conditioning, sipping a cup of coffee, watching you guys get sun and windburned-and wishing I was there! Love you all!
Seriously the best vlog on youtube right now. It warmed my heart when you filmed the wild horse and found the water cache. Pesky seemed so likeable too, LOL, the high desert is having a positive effect on her! Have a safe journey, looking forward to more of your adventures. Thanks for sharing.
What beautiful scenery. That wind!! Water supply’s are interesting. I love the wild horses❤️ there so beautiful and-looked curious. Pesky sighting made me laugh!! It did look so harsh! And being from outside philadelphia pa, Atlantic City sounds so funny.enjoy your adventure
OMG what have you gotten us into??? So happy to be along with you via video. Even when the conditions are so bad you ladies are still positive. Love that. It's great to see the U.S. still has wildlife roaming free, horses, sheep and prairie chickens. And you, ha. What a surprise to find trail magic in the middle of nowhere. God provides somehow. You all look like you really enjoyed those burgers. Take care, be safe.
Just love you guys! When my day is hard I watch you all and I know I can get thru life. Ever 3 weeks ago lost house in a house fire 🔥 burned to the ground. But we all are well.,God is good God iis Great!
CDT is def the most varied trail of the triple crown. Road walks, bush whacking, ridge walking, crawling on your belly under trees snd barbed ride fences. lol
Outstanding content by spectacular ladies. Thank you for sharing your boldness. I connected a carbon cartridge by platypus to the outflow of the swayer squeeze and what a difference it makes when only stinky water is available.
I´m so glad that I stumbled upon you gals!! I did the PCT in 2018 at 56 years of age and I want to do the CDT in 2022 the year I turn 60. Though I would love to a gang like you ladies!! I did the PCT solo but met some amazing people. I´m loving these videos!! So inspiring.
Great string of videos through a tough section! It’s going to be so interesting seeing the terrain transition as you move into the foothills/mountains/greenery/snow again.
Congratulations on the first 100 miles 👏 this looks pretty rough but you three hung in there. This is why you 3 inspire me so much. That no quit attitude I love it. Take care out there. Love you ladies 💖
Imagine the wagon trains and the hardships....I think of the uncertainty and trials they endured They were so brave! Great hiking Wander Women. I think you all have a bit of pioneer in your DNA.♥️
Wyoming is so flat snd next to no trees so it’s super windy, hot snd dry or cold snd dry wind. Lots of vows snd wild horses and prong horn. I had lunch in Rawlings once. It as a super old diner. The booths were so old that the springs were shot so our table was about chin level. Good was good but we were giggling. We wanted to ask for a booster seat or a phone book to sit on Luke we were little kids. Lol. But lots of good memories in Wyoming
Wow, ladies! I don't see how you can even find the trail! I grew up on the eastern plains of Colorado, so I know about the wind. It never really stops,j except sometimes at night. I'm rooting for you. You're doing great!
This was amazing! 👍👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼. Yes, Wyoming redefines 'harsh environment '. But you survived it with grace, grit, and an unending sense of humor.....even with dear Pesky showing up. 🤣. She has tenacity! You have to give her that. 😊. Congratulations on surviving the Great Basin. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🎉. Loved seeing the stunningly majestic wild horses. That they can survive out there in unbelievable. And your visual documentary on the survival rate of the CDT signs was funny. Not too many left standing after the wind and cattle have beat them up. But I imagine, even if they used steel posts, the cattle would flatten them after using them for itching posts. Anyway, you survived the cold and the wind and yucky water. Again, my hat is off to you all. And that is with respect for what you are accomplishing, not because the wind ripped it off my head. 😆 💨. Can't wait for next week! Take care and good luck! 👍
Wow really harsh conditions. You ladies are really tough!!! Wild horses were beautiful much different than the ponies of Greyson Highlands. I was sitting here watching with my 7 year old granddaughter and was explaining to her about who Pesky is. I think you should ask Pesky's advise about cold soaking I'm sure she has much experience that she could share with all of you. My granddaughter thinks you ladies are great and I agree!!!
Your all are so inspirational to me thank you!!! I find you videos fascinating and interesting as a fellow hiker my self, something The trails are tough but so gratifying I'll be watching your new adventure have fun!
Always a great day when one of your videos comes out! Kristy trying to eat cold ramen? Hilarious! Cow Patty Plaza??!! Lynn in her Plus 4s!!! Pesky!!!! The entertainment never ends. Thanks! You’re simply the best! Keep on getting on! You can do it. Find your feral!!!
Awesome journey! You are doing great. I thought of you today as I was hiking up to the new Dixon trail to Cheyenne Mt. So fun. Keep up the good work and can't wait for the next video.
Well done ladies, the basin looks tough for a number of reasons. Don’t know if I could come at the cold soak method! Keep up the sun screen the wind is so damaging. Love your efforts to stay positive, laugh and enjoy the beauty around you. Cheers from coffee on the couch in Australia.
I remember the wind we camped at Sinclair WY when my 14yr son and I drove across the country from PA to OR to be there for the birth of first grandchild. Now with 9 grands that first one graduated from University of Oregon this week end.
Rough section! You were so thoughtful to come up with positives for an otherwise monotonous bit of trail. I’ll bet it gave a whole new meaning to peeing in the (non) woods!
Great idea to cold soak, but less than pristine water would make that challenging. The solitude of the area is profound. I would be glad to be traveling with company. Onward!
Love it! Cold soak couscous is good w fritos and olive oil...the to go olive oil packets from Carrabbas are the bomb as they have the spices in it...delicious!
You guys are doing so great..LOVE this. So enjoy watching you all..and learning in big and small ways..and laughing... Toooo funny about the POOP PLAZA..yuck! We do what we have to 😜 I earned a trail name from my section hiking 👻 . Lol.. A thru hiker named me unintentionally..but I took it for now..Lol. Still working on that AT dream. Who knows? Will Keep on doing sections for now. Really enjoying it with each trip more and more..Keep on keeping on..YOU WILL MAKE IT!! Love from TN 👻❤👍
CDT Advertisement June 2020: Looking for an epic vacation/adventure, look no further. Its 34 degrees, frosty, and smells like cow poo. Plus you get to drink from cow ponds. But you do get to see prong horns. Love the skits.
Hi ladies, what a trek thru that basin! you guys did great! those CDT signs that were lying flat on the ground. was it confusing which way to go? and sleeping among all those cow pies! yuk! you could go potty there and no one would know the difference. haha
All the signs are down. I suppose it's from the winter snow and wind. Great job, thanks for sharing.👍😎 P.S. If you ever hike the PCT, I would love to section hike a part of it in Washington with you ladies!😃✌️
I agree. Sad. Wondered if it was maybe from the horses and cows using them as scratching post. Lol. Hope the CDT will install more permanent post markers.
Your bags look so light especially in light of you all carry a weeks worth of food - would you mind sharing what's in your pack & how you keep it so light?
Just so y'all know. The CDT is 3,000 miles long. Most of it travels at high elevations (snow, ice, wind, fire, tree-falls, water/flooding, avalanches, wild animals)…and very few people and only small towns, many 20 or more miles from the trail. It’s relatively inaccessible much of the year. Trail maintenance…it’s complicated…and difficult. Only several hundred hikers attempt to hike it every year, and not many finish it in one season. It's pretty easy to navigate using smartphone apps and/or a GPS if you're experienced using these tools. Compared to other long trails: it's longer, more isolated, less people/less sociable, has grizzly bears, is higher altitude, less water, can be colder and hotter, longer carries between resupply, towns are farther off trail, fewer trail angels or trail magic, you need to hike more daily miles to finish in one season, forest fires can be a common diversion, there are many alternate pathways to take, a typical through hike S to N requires snow/ice training and preparation. The trail probably isn’t actively maintained this year due to COVID-19. Learn, donate or volunteer here: continentaldividetrail.org
Congratulations on hitting 100 miles! Where was your sign? Beautiful horses! Bet the tootsie rolls & water looked like lobster & filet mignon when you saw them. That cold soak ramen wasn’t looking very appetizing. Hope you ladies can get stoves. Think a hot dinner would be a great reward after all that hard work every day! Glad I don’t have smellovision when you were in Cow Patty Haven!
