My question is.. When or where I'll use floor or ceiling function.. Did you encounter any situation in your spreadsheet where you think here i need to round up value or round down.?
Unlike the standard rounding functions that round to a certain number of decimal places, the CEILING and FLOOR functions round to whole or partial numbers. If you don't have a need for it, you won't see the point. When you do have a need for it, there are no alternatives. Here are some real examples I have personally used in client's spreadsheets: 1. For accounting, rounding down to the nearest 25c, $1, $100, $1,000 or $1,000,000. 2. For earthworks rounding up to down to the nearest 50 tonnes of soil. 3. For website hits, rounding down to the nearest 1,000. 4. For contingency planning, rounding up to the nearest 250 man-hours for a project or the nearest 100km for a haulage estimate. The list goes on ... I hope I haven't inadvertently answered a homework question!
