Your videos was a great help to me. I have read so many directions saying clockwise or counter clockwise that I was totally confused ! Then I found your video and I actually saw you turn on the fan and which way the blades started turning. Then I saw my fan blades went the same direction and I finally knew it was right. Thank you so much! I am no longer confused ! GODBLESS YOU for having the hind sight to know some people need to see something rather than read it! !

Thank You Very Much for making and putting this video up! The visual you provided is exactly what I needed because, as you said, "which way is clockwise" when you're looking at it depends on your perspective. Confusing! I have 10' vaulted ceilings in a very large room and noticed an immediate positive difference in effect when I set the dual ceiling fans in the proper direction. Thank You Again!

Great video, you explain it well. I think that in rooms with high ceilings (15-25 feet ) hot air is best to stay up there. The cooling effect of the circulating air in the summer is nice. To bring too much of the trapped hot air into the air conditioning is just a waste. Often rooms with ceilings this high have window which allow sunlight which brings in addition heat. As you stated the benefit of the fan is the circulating of the air. You feel cooler. In the winter you want to bring the warm air down but not blow on you.

Easiest way I've found to determine airflow direction is with soap bubbles. Stand under your ceiling fan and relive your childhood, lol. The bubbles will float in whatever direction the air is flowing. So if you want air to descend, the bubbles should be pretty much hitting the floor. If you want it to rise, the bubbles should be, well, rising. If you're "directionally challenged" like me, this should help!

in the summer time you want the air to move up to the ceiling as cold air is heavier and needs to be picked up. in the winter time you want to blow the air down as hot air rises and you want that air to blow down. ( only if a/c is operating does this works)

@gordonjames01

Some thought - 1. Either way will move air from ceiling to floor either by pushing it up (at the center) and around to the walls (and down the walls) or by pushing it down (at the center) and then it has to go up the walls to refill the relative vacuum above the fan. 2. The speed matters more than the direction for total air flow, but the direction can be used to change where in the room the uncomfortable spots are. 3. The shape and size of the room, and the placement of the fan will have a large effect on comfort and air flow. Try both directions, measure your results, let us know your opinion. 4. Doors, windows, heat sources and vents will also influence your experience.
@SA-qx7fx
@SA-qx7fx Год назад
Hadn't thought about those variables So what you're saying is, it really depends on where the user is situated in the room If you're sitting near the walls, perhaps on a couch against the wall and you don't feel anything because of the summer setting then reverse the blade direction to the Winter Setting even though it's the summer since you'll feel whatever output is blowing out of your vent since you're closer to the walls Versus a bedroom where a person is laying flat making the orientation of your body in the middle of the room in a bed and you want to feel the wind going down on your whole body you would put it to Summer Setting

Good video. Keep it simple, forget clockwise/counterclockwise. If you want the fan to blow more air down onto you, look at the blades. You want the high end of the blade going into the air flow/direction of the motor (so that would be leading high-side edge into the wind), which pushes the air down from the lower end of the blade being in the back of the airflow direction. Picture your hand out a car window while tilting it.

I tried having our fans turning clockwise in winter & found that we could NOT walk around our house bare foot because all the warm air was being pulled up. I switched to counter clockwise & feel the heat more evenly in the room. Another thing I found that was with having the warm air pulled up, we seem to be losing more warm air through the attic & roof. How do I know this? The snow on our roof is melting too fast & we now have ice cycles as long as 4 feet long hanging off out gutters! I'm just waiting for the gutters to be ripped off the roof from the weight! I'm sure better insulation would help but since we only rent, I'm not going to worry about. We're only here temporarily.

@Rlnthndr
@Rlnthndr 14 лет назад
@TheCouxterbug thats sortof right. I always have my fans on forward even in the winter. I love the breeze it gives me. But my vents are on the ceiling so its actually pumping both the cold air and in the winter, the warm air down. But even when the vents are on the floor. Your going to feel cooler having air blown on you. Think about it, a breeze in 100 degree temps feels pretty good right. Well a ceiling fan does the same thing on the inside. But he is absolutely right for normal conditions

For some reason when I have my ceiling fan in the living room pushing down in the summertime, it gets noticeably hotter, but when I reverse it, the room gets noticeable cooler, though, I do notice a bunch of heat coming from where the ceiling fan was installed. But it also gets really hot in my room at night, and when I have the ceiling fan sucking up the air verses pushing down the air, my room gets several degrees cooler. I have also heard it depends on where your vents are located (ceiling or wall verses floor)
@MikeKlimek
@MikeKlimek Год назад
This is all about wind chill. Maybe when you first turn the fan on it pushes the warm air off the ceiling initially until it starts circulating? It would be interesting to see what a thermostat would read during this and after it has been running. The temperature shouldn't change, but it should feel cooler.
@thomasfenton4009

Helpful video. Thanks. But the question you asked but didn’t answer is whether clockwise and counterclockwise are from below (looking up) or from above (as if looking from the ceiling down).
@MikeKlimek
@MikeKlimek 5 лет назад
On this ceiling fan it is as if you are above looking down due to how the blades are angled. This will hold true for most fans, although if there is a manufacturer that angles the blades opposite of this, the direction would be reversed. Just remember this: in the summer, you want the air pushing down into the room.

I know of a study in which two small buildings were heated and cooled inside a large warehouse and the exact costs were measured. With ceiling fans operating in the lifting (upward) condition, the actual savings on cooling was twenty-six percent, and the savings on heating was six percent. The difference in pleasantness and poisonousness was easily registered to the experimenters who are familiar with nitrosamines and houme gases and contaminants, and this should be easily demonstrated to all.

The unit will is located where the ceiling fan mounts to the ceiling. You will need to remove the cover and you can access it there. It tucks in the bracket that holds the fan to the box in the ceiing. Try replacing the battery in the remote first, and if that doesn't work you may be faced with replacing the remote unit. It should cost around $25.00 from any home center.
@_Ai_Angel

You said in the summertime you want it to blow down on you but we gotta remember ceiling fans are double-sided and normal desk fan has a shut off side so when you say blow down do you mean the cold air that is produced by the fan actually sucking up hot air which I would class is actually blowing up warm air so the other side feels like it's blows down cold air if that makes sense if you put a normal fan on the floor and face the heavens it calls the entire room down because cold air sits at the bottom of the room so my theory is to ceiling fan would do the same
