Cel Fi Go Wifi Booster Installation | Covid Air Travel | Family Road Trip Travel Australia EP 61
After a long week of having the van fixed in Emerald, we hit the road with a plan to head north along the East Coast of Queensland.
But first, we take you back a few weeks to our short stay in beautiful Byfield National Park as Paul installs a Telstra Cel Fi Go Wifi Booster to the 4WD. Stay tuned for the test results and review in an upcoming episode!
We also enjoy a day trip to Upper Stoney Creek, an easily accessible camping and picnic area located within the 15,000ha of Byfield National Park.
Plus, we say goodbye to Paul as he boards a plane from Rockhampton to the Gold Coast for a special family event, and have grand plans to turn the caravan into a ‘home’ whilst he is gone.

Paul & Katie, we watch all your shows, & find them one of the best presented ones ever. We installed a Cel Wi-fi on your good recommendation in out 4WD. Do you transfer the unit to to caravan when you stay a few days, and do you have a second areial if you do so? We are doing a 2 month trip up the centre this year. Cheers guys😎

Hi Allan, thank you for comment 👍😊 yes we run a second aerial and I’ll actually film a short segment on this in a video this week (will be on YT in 2-3weeks) - basically we leave both aerials with the 4x4 (internal/mobile phone aerial & external/bull bar aerial) - I purchased both an additional external and mobile internal aerial for the caravan. This means I can keep working online while katie is out and about in the Hilux with Jasper and vice versa. This saves the hassle of moving the vehicle aerials all together! ‘Plug and Play’ 👍

Hi Jeff, when we swapped out of our old van we took the inverta, extra solar, dc2dc charger, heater etc and had it installed in this new van - this originally caused issues as the wiring of theses after market add-in’s wasn’t converted correctly - once we had that sorted all is going great now. What are you towing with? We just upgraded our suspension on the Hilux! Cheers

Another great episode all. Loving Jasper taking the lead, you can always count on the toddlers to liven up the story and we get a giggle too. Great to see him enjoying the travels, you can certainly see is so excited. Just a point to remember. The unit does not have aerials, it has antennas. An aerial receives a signal, like your car radio. An antenna receives a signal and can transmit a signal, also known as a transceiver. I learnt the difference when I did my army signaller course. Every time someone said aerial they had to do 20 push-ups for their error.

No, a car radio is not an aerial, a transceiver is not an antenna. These days the term "aerial" is "old fashioned", "antenna" being the preferred current usage. Any aerial/antenna can both receive and transmit a signal, ideally it will be resonant on the particular frequency like your UHF CB antenna, or the local AM and FM antennas you see outside regional towns. However a random length wire will work if the impedance is matched to the equipment, such as the big Codan antennas you see on some 4WDs. I'm an amateur radio operator licensed for over 50 years and going strong.

Discovered your Chanel a few weeks ago and have binged watched all episodes. Jasper is adorable and very intelligent. Well done to you both. A question is why is the wifi booster put in the car and not the caravan?

Hi Fiona, great question! We always have the vehicle with us but the van may be back at a campsite or van park so decided to install that way.... however, we have made it so that we can remove the booster from the car (leaving the fixed aerial/antenna on vehicle) and use an additional aerial /antenna in the van if we need to gain a better signal.
