EARLY LIFE
The late Joseph Kipkemoi Koech was born in the year 1952 at Mokonchoro village, Bureti sub county,
Kericho county. He was son to the late Ochola Chumo and Mary Chumo. The late Joseph was step - son
to Esther Chumo. He was son -in law to the late Jacob Korir and late Emmy Korir and Salina Korir.
He was brother to the late Silpher, Eunice, Leah, David, Esther, Andrew, Ezekiel, the late Jane, Stanley,
Alice, Martha, Johnstone, Wesley, Alfred, the late Wilter, Christopher, Bernard, Hellen, Daisy and
Florence.
Joseph was uncle and brother in- law to many. He was father - in - law to David Limo, Stanley Lagat
and Nicholas Bett.
MARRIAGE
The late Joseph Koech married Nelly Koech in 1981 and were blessed with Seven children namely;-
Emmy Limo (kapchemosin primary), the late Kipngetich, Mirriam Jemutai, Judith Langat (Ol’lessos
Technical), Victorine Bett (Kamarich Primary), Gladys Jeptoo and Wycliffe Kemboi.
He was grandfather to Eusebius, Eurole, Euphrasia, Merlyne, Adrian, Jornetta, Joy, Jethro, Jovanni,
Edmond, Dylan, Valyn and Sheryl.
EDUCATION
He attended Kiptewit, Ng’ororga primary school in Kericho County and later transferred to Kipchawat
primary school in Nandi County where he sat for his CPE examination in 1972. He was admitted at
Kaptel secondary school for his O Level.
CAREER
He started his teaching career at Kapsoiyo primary school as a UT in 1981 and later moved to
Mosombor. He also taught at Kamarich primary school before he was transferred to Kaboi in 1997. He
attended and successfully completed an in- service course at Mosoriot Teachers College. He enjoyed an
illustrious teaching career until his retirement in 2016.
As a distinguished teacher, he produced the best students. His academic influence left an indelible mark.

HEALTH
The late Joseph led a healthy life until 2014 when he was taken ill and was taken to Nandi Hills
Hospital where he was referred to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital and was diagnosed with.
diabetes. The condition was managed, and he continued with his normal duties. In 2023 he
developed abdominal pains and vomiting and was rushed to Kapsabet Referral Hospital where.
several tests were carried out.
Later, he was referred for endoscopy that was done at Eldoret Hospital by Dr.David Koech and
diagnosed with chronic gastritis. He was treated and discharged and continued well with medical.
checkups and treatment at Kapsabet County Referral Hospital and on 16th February his body
glucose and sodium levels were discovered to be low, so he was admitted with a view to.
normalizing both his sugars and sodium levels. He showed great improvement and was discharged.
on 18th of February. While home, he developed severe vomiting which led to electrolyte.
imbalance, making sodium levels to decline. He was taken to hospital for treatment and his health.

On 4th March he attended his regular checkups and when lab tests were carried out, his sodium.
chloride levels were very low, so he was admitted for replacement. He was put on treatment and
showed impressive improvement, until at around 6:30 PM on 5th of March when he started having.
difficulty in breathing, suctioning was done, and oxygen administered. He responded well but at
8:30 PM, he developed difficulty in breathing again. Frantic resuscitation was done but
unfortunately failed. At 8:30 PM, he #succumbed.
