THE LEGACY
I want you to know that I have moved. I received a call from God, the Chief Architect, who informed me that my new home is ready and that I could move
immediately, I just didn't have time to give you notice. On Saturday, May 28, 2022, at 4:15 am, Hilliard aka "Baker" was called from labor to reward. His wife, Valerie, was by his side. He was preceded in death by his mother: Flossie Mae Baker, father, Hilliard Baker, Sr.; and brother, James E. Givens.
Today we celebrate his legacy! Born to the late Hilliard Baker, Sr. and Flossie Mae Baker, a native of Jackson, TN, where he received his formative
education in Madison County, Tennessee, graduating from Merry High School in 1967. Baker enlisted into the United States Army in February 1969 and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. Baker was honorably discharged on February 23, 1975. He was employed by Aurora Foods for 30 years until his retirement. Baker accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and attended Rock Temple Church of God In Christ, Lane Tabernacle Christian Methodist Episcopal, with his last church being Pentecostal Assembly Church Of God In Christ. Some of his leisure activities were fishing, grilling, riding horses, gardening, and participating in various civic and social organizations. While being retired, his favorite pastime was his love for cars and being an active member of the "Volunteer Corvette Club of West Tennessee." Baker also started a new way of cooking and he and his friends would compare their dishes over the phone. Baker's favorite book in the Bible was Psalm 23. Baker had a servant's heart. You could find him almost every weekend (sometimes daily) serving others-mowing their lawns, running errands for his children and siblings, taking his brother out, checking on his sisters, and visiting the sick. Baker will lovingly be remembered by: his wife, Valerie Baker, (his dearest friend whom he enjoyed early morning and late-night conversations with, and who he affectionately called "Val"). Baker treasured his children and embraced every moment with them. He will lovingly be remembered by his children: two sons, Broderick Baker (Katrina) of Jackson TN, Hilliard Baker, III, of Jackson, TN, and one daughter, Nancy Baker of Jackson, TN; along with their mother, Gwendolyn Bledsoe-Baker of Jackson, TN. Baker will be lovingly remembered by his five bonus children, Brianna Marshall, of Lebanon, TN, Rodesha Jimmerson of San Francisco, CA, Tracey Marshall of Jackson, TN, Stacey Marshall of Griffin, GA, and Justin F. Marshall of Murfreesboro, TN. Loving memories of "Junior" will forever rest in the hearts of his siblings: brothers. Robert E. Baker (Dorothy) of Jackson, TN, Harold W. Baker (Gloria) of Jackson, TN; sisters, Bertha Baker-White of Jackson, TN. Marian D. Hayes (Eddie) of Maitland, FL, and Nancy R. Rander of Evanston, IL. Baker counted family as one of life's blessings, especially with his only grandson, Bryson, and bonus granddaughter, Kelsea Bradford (Marcus) of Jackson, TN. Baker's memories will be cherished by his nieces, nephews, great grandchildren, godchildren, church family, his special friends at Mercer Brothers Funeral Home, Volunteer Corvette Club of West Tennessee, and many other relatives and friends. Death leaves a heartache no one can heal; love leaves a memory no one can steal. May the love of Hilliard Baker, Jr forever live in our hearts.
