I love listening to this guy do these little documentaries. It's like he's holding a personal conversation with his listeners. Makes it sound more personal. Almost like listening to a family member. Not using big words and stumbling over them. Just telling a story.
Everytime any of our Black brothers and sisters tried to do their own thing, they got stopped in their tracks, i.e., Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, Jimi Hendrix, Prince, Bill Cosby, etc., just to name a few.
@Lady Gemini We are neither lazy or sorry. They always trying to throw shade because they are living a life of luxury off the backbones of our ancestors who were already here before them. They are "squatters." It is time for them to go! They have been lying to us and taking away from us since birth.
I know, this song was HUGE, was the ultimate back yard BBQ cookout, house party jam that summer in 1979. When I first heard this, always thought it was my boys "The O'Jays" they simply could have made this classic jam as well.
I was around 6 and a kid in the Bronx at the time.Rappers Delight by Sugar Hill Gang and a young rap kid called Kurtis Blow was fresh on the scene doing their summer promotions for their brand new albums by performing free in the playgrounds and community centers. We used to call them jams.My aunties used to turn up Ain't No Stopping Us Now dancing in the living room with their friends.A colorful disco light flickering in the living room while us kids be in the backroom either watching TV or playing with toys lol.Aint No Stopping Us Now is definitely the soundtrack of my young childhood.
To This Day "Ain't No Stoppin Us Now" still gets you dancing. George Benson did do "The Greatest Love of All" I loved it when he did it and Whitney brought it home. Good video!! I love what you do.
The 1970's was the last great era that saw the birth of soul , disco, funk and rap! There were so many super star musicians that made memorable songs! That was also the era of talented legendary musical bands, like Kool & the Gang, Brass Construction, Parliament & Funkadelic, EW&F, Con Funk Shun, Heat Wave, Switch and Zapp with Roger Troutman ( Yes! Roger Troutman in the 70's was touring the Country playing in different cities before they made it big!) & that's just naming a very few of them! 😎
I will forever be a fan of McFadden & Whitehead and today, 59 years old here in Brazil, I will forever admire all the work of this fabulous duo that provided us with unforgettable moments. I would be fully realized if I could meet them in person. I want to continue listening to your music for the rest of my life!
Wow! They did Ain't No Stopping Us Now in one take. They know they were some "bad mother... shut yo' mouth." "What they do?" "Back Stabbers" starts off with that question. My fav part of the song. That's so true all you need is one hit.
Heavy D was such a kind soul🙌🏼 I felt like I knew him😔 🎶NOW THAT WE FOUND LOVE, WHAT ARE WE GONNA DOOOOOOO WITH IIIIIIIIT🎶 That would be a great one 4sure✊🏼
Great stuff man as a young studio musician I got ,a chance t work for Leon Huff on many ocations, but the first date was for Teddy Pendergrass and the producer was Macfadin and it was a great time in my life ,love your work thanks for the post
I'm straight old school from the old school era and without a doubt, "Ain't no stopping us now" will always be in my music collection. Every party I've given that song is played.
I"m so glad you mentioned Linda Creed in this biopic., I hope you do one on her. She was such an underrated songwriter and left this planet way too soon.
I’m a Philly native. I love to see John Whitehead perform. I forgot they wrote so many songs. I got the opportunity to meet K. Gamble several years ago. I believe they still have a building here in Philly with memorabilia.
And then, a year later, they redid the song for the Philadelphia Phillies, but there were a few versions including the one by Pino D’Angelo called “Ma Quale Idea”, and another one by Jocko Henderson (aka Jocko) when he was a DJ did a rap song based inspired by the hit called “Rhythm Talk”.
Your documentaries are a great contribution to remembering our past greats in the music world. I love your channel Bro. Keep up the great research and putting out this valuable information! Greetings from London UK 🙏🏿🌐
What a great duo McFadden & Whitehead great writers wrote songs for them Gamble &Huff . When I was in high school this was the 45s we played at house partys and the clubs
So good to see this type of content. And, your delivery is perfect. A lot of research goes into them too. I've watched them all and some twice. Glad I found this channel. I would love to see more videos on 60s doo-wop groups. It's where my deep love for music began. Thank you!
McFadden and Whithead are legendary! You did an amazing job with this video. I appreciate you Those brothers were about my age today when they died. To young and very sad
What a GREAT story!!! Man, I enjoyed every minute of it! That's no surprise of course, as I ALWAYS enjoy your stories! But man, that's a DISGRACE how they STILL haven't caught the killer after ALL these years! Then, the dude that was with him when he got shot, did he come forward with what he knew??? Maybe I missed something! Let me know....
Awesome 👏 work bro! I hate that my city Philly is so messed up and only known for history... even to the Uptown theater 🎭 in North Philly ( Susquehanna and Dauphin) Smfh 😔... all the greats perform there! Thank you 🙏🏾 for keeping the history of the original music 🎶 origin!
The wrote music for Gamble and Huff. They both died broke and drugs were a huge factor. Kenny Gamble said had they stuck song writing, they would have been more successful.
I was in College when this song came out, as soon as I heard it. I bought it. It was jamming at the clubs. I still listen to it, until this day. Some 40 yrs. Later. Great memories. Thanks for sharing. RIP
I live in Philly. Kenny Gamble have rebuild and have a new building where people can tour. They have a Philly Walk of Fame. It is across from a theater called the Kimmel Center.
The solo album of John Whitehead called 'I need money bad' is a classic. Such a great singer. The song 'One million tomorrows' is one of my favourite numbers.
Man, there’s some real dirty people in the music industry man, smh these guys did not get the credit they deserved 😡 I know I’m a youngster but I know good music 🎶 & whenever I hear “Ain’t no Stoppin’ us Now” I gotta get up and dance man lol 😆 thank so much for sharing their story I love your videos man! Keep on it! ❤️
Wow😮..love love 'Aint no stopping us now' and only found out today what happened to both!!..so so sad and pained! GOD BLESS them for sharing the talent He gave them and leaving us with it! RIP Macfadden and Whitehead!🙏❤️❤️😢
The Whitehead Bros album Serious was one of the most underrated in '94. I don't think Motown thought they were that marketable. I just found out that John Jr. died. It's a shame. Him and Kenny we're talented like their dad.
@@slowburnraloh1807 On August 25th, it will be the 20th anniversary of Aaliyah's death and on September 13th, it'll be the 25th anniversary of 2Pac's death.
One of my favorite songs of all time. This song was the Brooklyn’s Anthem played in the club 417 Lincoln Place. Keep up the excellent work my bro. It’s so sad how these two passed away. Something is fishy about whitehead death. I saw the unsung episode on McFadden & Whitehead. Without these two it wouldn’t be sweet soul music. Why sale the building it could’ve been a Museum filled with all the beautiful music made in Philly.
I remember when that song first came out, it was literally played EVERYWHERE!!! You couldn't walk down one city block here in NY at that time without hearing that being blasted from somewhere.
